Bills-Odell Beckham Jr. connections being made again, here’s why

#Bills-Odell Beckham Jr. connections being made again, here’s why:

All of a sudden, the connections between the Buffalo Bills and Odell Beckham Jr. have resurfaced.

Perhaps there’s something to it or maybe it’s just nothing.

For now, it’s likely the latter because the Bills need to clear out some salary cap space before making any additions. By March 15, Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane needs to get under next year’s salary cap and the team is an estimated $20 million over it.

After that, free agency ensues. Maybe then.

For now, it’s all about Adam Henry.

If you hadn’t heard, Henry was hired by the Bills to be their new wide receivers coach. The 50-year-old has extensive experience both at the college and pro levels.

At each, he has built a relationship with OBJ.

Henry started out in the college ranks and in 2012 he returned there as a passing-game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He remained there until after the 2014 season. While with LSU, Henry coached Beckham.

In 2016, Henry joined the New York Giants in the same role, receivers coach. Beckham and Henry crossed paths in the Big Apple as Beckham was the team’s first-round pick.

We’re not done yet.

In 2018, the Cleveland Browns hired Henry as a wideout coach once again. By now you likely know, that intersected with Beckham’s tenure on Lake Erie as well.

Last December, Beckham had a free-agent visit in Buffalo. He did with several other teams. Beckham did not sign anywhere.

Beane has long touted Beckham. It’s just all about the finances at this point.

But if the recruitment via Von Miller continues, which has been a constant over the past year, Henry could become an additional reason OBJ ends up in Buffalo.

Still a lot of time until then, just something to keep in mind.

Former Browns assistant Adam Henry joins the Bills coaching staff

Henry was an assistant in 2018 and 2019.

Former Cleveland Browns wide receivers coach Adam Henry will coach the Buffalo Bills wide receivers next season. Henry was brought to Cleveland in 2018 after he had coached both Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham in college at LSU. In 2019 when Beckham came to Cleveland fans were hopeful Henry could get the dynamic duo going again.

But 2019 ended in disaster under former head coach Freddie Kitchens when the team went 6-10 and cleaned house after the season. Henry has coached several different teams in the NFL and college and now gets work with a solid group in Buffalo led by Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

Bills hire Adam Henry as wide receivers coach

#Bills hire Adam Henry as wide receivers coach:

Adam Henry has been hired as the Buffalo Bills’ new wide receivers coach.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that update on Tuesday. Henry replaces Chad Hall, who departed Buffalo for the Jacksonville Jaguars to take their receivers coach position.

Hall’s contract was up and it’s unknown if he was offered an extension.

Henry, 50, most recently served as co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at University of Indiana. However, his coaching career includes five stops in the pros with the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys.

Henry played wide receiver at McNeese State University in Louisiana. He began his coaching career after a brief stint in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints during training camp in 1995 and 1996.

Hiring Henry means that Zach Azzanni will not become Buffalo’s receivers coach. He was most-recently with the Denver Broncos as their wideout coach, however, he was also said to still be in the running to be retained by Denver. The Bills interviewed Azzanni earlier this week.

Henry’s hiring has highlighted his relationship with free-agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Henry coached “OBJ” with the Giants and Browns and in the college level with LSU. Buffalo and Beckham have long been connected.

Bills Wire will continue to bring updates relating to members of the team’s front office throughout the spring.

Giants interview Adam Henry for wide receivers coach position

The New York Giants interviewed a familiar face in Adam Henry for their wide receivers coach position on Tuesday.

The New York Giants continue to plug away at compiling their coaching staff, and that includes a look at a familiar name: Adam Henry.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that the Giants met with Henry on Tuesday for their vacant wide receivers coach position.

As Garafolo notes, Henry spent two seasons with the Giants from 2016 through 2017, coaching the likes of Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard.

In addition to his time with the Giants, Henry has also had stints with the Oakland Raiders (2007-2011), San Francisco 49ers (2015), Cleveland Browns (2018-2019) and Dallas Cowboys (2020-2021). He also made a stop with LSU from 2012 through 2014.

Henry broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of McNeese State, where he also spent 10 years as a coach and coordinator. He signed with the New Orleans Saints following the 1994 NFL draft and spent three seasons with the team.

Given Henry’s familiarity with the Giants organization and some of the remaining players, he’d make for a nice fit.

Ex-Giants assistant Adam Henry joins Cowboys

Former New York Giants wide receivers coach Adam Henry has joined the Dallas Cowboys in the same role.

Former New York Giants wide receivers coach Adam Henry, who spent two seasons (2016-2017) in East Rutherford before being ousted by the incoming Pat Shurmur in 2018, has found his way back to the NFC East.

The Dallas Cowboys announced earlier this week that Henry will be joining their staff after spending the past two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, where he once again had the opportunity to oversee Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, who he also coached at LSU.

Prior to his time with the Giants and Browns, Henry spent the 2015 season coaching wide receivers in San Francisco. That, of course, came after his three-year stay at LSU.

Henry also has experience in other areas, having spent time with the Oakland Raiders as both their offensive quality control coach (2007-2008) and tight ends coach (2009-2011).

Before entering the NFL the first time, Henry cut his teeth as the wide receivers coach at McNeese State (1997–2005) before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2006 season.

Henry had played his college ball at McNeese State and was signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted rookie free agent in 1994, but he never made it onto their 53-man roster.

WR coach with ties to OBJ, Jarvis Landry heading to Cowboys staff

Adam Henry has coaching stints with LSU, the Giants, and Cleveland on his resume, and looks to be nearing a deal to coach the Cowboys’ WRs.

Mike McCarthy may have found his target to be the new coach for Dak Prescott’s targets. According to multiple sources as of Friday evening, the Cowboys are closing in on a deal to make Adam Henry the new wide receivers coach in Dallas, replacing Sanjay Lal.

Henry spent the past two seasons in the same role in Cleveland, where he worked with Browns wideouts Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. The 47-year-old Henry had previously been Beckham’s position coach in New York in 2016, and the wide receivers coach for both Beckham and Landry during their final two years at LSU.

Coincidentally, Henry also has history with the man he is expected to replace. Henry and Lal were on staff together in Oakland from 2007 through 2011. Both served as offensive quality control coaches in 2007-2008. In 2009, Henry was named tight ends coach, while Lal was promoted to lead the wide receiver group. Both held those roles with the Raiders until the conclusion of the 2011 season.

Under Henry’s watch with the Browns, Landry enjoyed a career-high season in 2019 with 1,174 receiving yards. Beckham also topped 1,000 receiving yards in Cleveland in 2019; his best season in number of receptions came in 2016 as a Giant, also with Henry as his position coach.

Rumors of Beckham joining the Cowboys have circulated for some time, dating back to his tenure in New York. A newly-hired wide receiver coach who has been with him at three previous stops won’t do anything to help quiet those whispers now with Cowboys fans who still aren’t sold on free agent Amari Cooper as a long-term solution for the club.
