Shutout completes Notre Dame baseball’s upset of Wake Forest

The season opening series was a prosperous one for the Notre Dame baseball team, as they upset took the series 2-1 over No. 16 Wake Forest.

Coming into the first series of the year, there was a good amount of unknown surrounding the Irish baseball team.

After this weekend, the ACC should be put on notice, as a 10-0 shutout of Wake Forest completed a series win for the Irish.

There was plenty to be happy about this weekend for second-year manager Link Jarrett, especially after the effort this afternoon. After dropping game 1 of the series, the Irish stormed back with with 15 runs in the final two games, while allowing just 4 for the Demon Deacons.

There were multiple stars in todays contest, but the biggest two where pitchers Christian Scafidi and Alex Rao. Obviously the shut out Wake Forest, but they combined to allow just 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 7 batters.

Offensively, it was a two-headed monster of right fielder Brooks Coetzee and catcher David LaManna, as they drive in 8 total runs. LaManna and second baseman Jared Miller each had 3 hits to lead the team, while Coetzee and DH Carter Putz had 2 hits a piece.

The Irish don’t have a midweek game and will be back on the field on Friday as they visit Clemson for a three-game conference matchup.

Notre Dame baseball’s season opener postponed again

Notre Dame baseball will have to wait another day for their season to get started.

The Irish were supposed to get their season started last week, but COVID-19 stopped them from making the trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a three-game mixed team series.

Yesterday, Notre Dame was slated to face No. 16 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, but was postponed for a different reason.

This is obviously a much more normal reason for not getting a chance to play, so the two teams will finally get their series underway this afternoon with a doubleheader.

The excitement has been building for almost a calendar year, especially after the 11-2 start last season before spring sports were shut down.

Notre Dame baseball shows off their ‘21 uniforms as they prepare for the opener

The Notre Dame baseball team had their season start pushed back a week, but after unveiling their uni’s it looks like first pitch will happen soon.

We have already seen the head gear the Irish baseball will wear this season and now we have a look at what the rest of the uniform will look like.

The road grays are my favorite, it’s just a good, clean look before they ultimately get grass stains and dirt all over them. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like these are available to purchase, unlike this years hats.

Something else we are waiting for is the baseball teams first series, after last weeks road trip to Baton Rouge was canceled due to an outbreak of COVID-19 within the program. It seems like the series against Wake Forest is a go, according to the teams twitter page.

Hopefully the Irish can get off to a fast start like last season as Link Jarrett looks to coach a full season instead of a partial one.

According to a release by the Notre Dame baseball Twitter account, the team has canceled its trip south.

It seems the team has had positive COVID-19 tests, which led to the decision not to travel to Baton Rouge this weekend. Last year’s season was cut short due to the pandemic and it looks as if it’s going to have an impact once again this year. Stay tuned as we monitor the situation within the Notre Dame baseball team.

Notre Dame baseball releases their full schedule along with ‘21 hats

The Notre Dame baseball team has released their full schedule along with their 2021 hats and where to buy them.

As the baseball season rapidly approaches, the Irish had yet to announce their  non-conference schedule. Well, that box has been checked as the full schedule has been released.

This weekend the Irish will swing into the 2021 season with a three game set against Air Force on Friday, Louisiana Tech on Saturday and the road trip finale against LSU on Sunday.

After the opening weekend, they’ll get right into the ACC conference schedule as the team will travel to Wake Forest the following weekend. The first home series is set for the weekend of March 19th against Duke, with a Tuesday tuneup against Valparaiso before another home series against Louisville the following weekend.

As for this years hats, they look absolutely fantastic. You can purchase them using the link below.

Although this will be Link Jarrett’s second year leading the Irish, last year was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If Notre Dame gets off to a fast start like last year, 11-2, the Jarrett hire will be viewed as a home run.

Notre Dame baseball update: 2021 season set to begin next week

A primer on what to expect when Notre Dame baseball gets their season started next week.

Notre Dame baseball is getting closer to their opening day, a week from this Friday. Last year, in Link Jarrett’s first season with the Irish, prior to the season being canceled, the Irish posted  a sparkling 11-2 record. The fast start had the Irish ranked as the 24th best program in the country in one of the major polls.

There are high expectations for this years team, with the majority of players returning with the exception of pitcher Joe Boyle, who was drafted by Cincinnati Reds in the 5th round of the MLB Draft. Here is a quick primer on Notre Dame baseball news as the season is set to begin next week.
