Recapping the 5 roster moves Broncos made ahead of Ravens game

Calvin Throckmorton was promoted to the 53-man roster and Michael Burton and Kwon Alexander were elevated to the game-day roster for Week 9.

The Denver Broncos made five roster moves ahead of their showdown with the Baltimore Ravens, including three transactions involving the same player.

First, the Broncos released fullback Michael Burton from the 53-man roster on Friday. Denver then promoted offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton from the practice squad to the active roster, filling Burton’s old spot.

The Broncos brought Burton back on Saturday, signing him to the practice squad. The fullback and offensive linemen essentially swapped spots this week.

Denver then elevated Burton and linebacker Kwon Alexander from the practice squad to the game-day roster for Week 9. Burton and Alexander will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Broncos roster moves

  1. Cut FB Michael Burton from 53-man roster
  2. Promoted OL Calvin Throckmorton to 53-man roster
  3. Signed FB Michael Burton to practice squad
  4. Elevated LB Kwon Alexander to game-day roster
  5. Elvataed FB Michael Burton to game-day roster

Sunday’s game will be regionally televised on CBS (TV broadcast map). Playing on the road, Denver is considered a big underdog in Week 9.

Broncos elevate 2 players from practice squad for Ravens game

The Broncos have elevated LB Kwon Alexander and FB Michael Burton from the practice squad to the game-day roster for Week 9.

The Denver Broncos are calling up some reinforcements from the practice squad ahead of their Week 9 showdown with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Broncos elevated linebacker Kwon Alexander and fullback Michael Burton from the practice squad to the game-day roster on Saturday. They will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Players can be elevated up to three times during the season without having to clear waivers to return to the practice squad. This will mark Alexander’s third and final practice squad elevation. He’s likely a candidate to be fully promoted to the 53-man roster next week. This is Burton’s second practice squad elevation in 2024.

Alexander rotates with Justin Strand at linebacker next to Cody Barton. Burton was cut from the active roster on Friday and re-signed to the practice squad on Saturday before being elevated to the game-day roster. He’ll continue serving as the team’s fullback.

Broncos sign familiar face to practice squad

After being cut from the 53-man roster on Friday, fullback Michael Burton signed with the Broncos’ practice squad on Saturday.

The Denver Broncos signed veteran fullback Michael Burton to their practice squad on Saturday, the team announced.

Burton, 32, was released from the 53-man roster on Friday to make room for offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton to be promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.

Throckmorton will serve as the team’s backup center behind Alex Forsyth against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. After re-joining the team on the practice squad, Burton was immediately elevated to the game-day roster for Week 9, so he’ll also play against the Ravens this weekend.

Burton started the season on Denver’s practice squad and he was elevated to the game-day roster in Week 1. This will mark his second elevation of the season. The Broncos can elevate Burton from the practice squad one more time in 2024. He will likely end up back on the 53-man roster later this season.

Burton has played 149 snaps on special teams and 80 snaps on offense this fall. Used primarily as a blocker, Burton has totaled five receptions for 40 yards through eight games this season.

Broncos cut player from offense ahead of Ravens game

The Broncos cut FB Michael Burton from the 53-man roster on Friday. He’s expected to return on the practice squad.

Story update: The Broncos re-signed Mike Burton to the practice squad on Saturday. He was then elevated from the practice squad to the game-day roster for Week 9. See our original post below.

The Denver Broncos have released fullback Michael Burton ahead of their game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to the NFL’s transaction wire (via multiple reports).

Burton, 32, is a vested veteran, so he’ll become a free agent immediately without having to clear the waiver wire. The Broncos plan to re-sign him to the practice squad, presumably on Saturday.

Denver needed to open up a spot on the active roster for offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton, who was out of practice squad elevations. Throckmorton was promoted to the 53-man roster on Friday and he will serve as the team’s backup center against the Ravens on Sunday.

Burton started the season on Denver’s practice squad and he was elevated to the game-day roster in Week 1. He is also expected to be elevated this week. The fullback would then be eligible to be elevated one more time this season.

NFL teams can elevate two players from the practice squad each week, but each player is limited to three elevations per season.

Cowboys 53-man roster for Falcons in Week 9: IR is still crowded, who can be elevated?

The Dallas Cowboys weren’t able to put enough talent on the field to complete a comeback against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8, and now take their traveling road show to the southeast. Suffering their first defeat away from home, where they’re 0-3 this year means there is no safe haven for a team with a laundry list of injured players and the Atlanta Falcons (5-3) aren’t going to be friendly hosts.

Dallas made a series of moves in the last week, shuffling their roster due to injury and availability. Cornerback DaRon Bland has been activated from IR, though that doesn’t mean he’ll play. He’s been replaced there by the guy who has been tending to his position, Amani Oruwariye. Oruwariye was just signed to the active roster late last week after the club moved TE John Stephens Jr to IR, lost for the season to an ACL injury. With the shuffle, Dallas now has 10 players on IR. Hopefully they’ll get a handful of them back over the next couple weeks when their activation-window eligible, but for now, here’s how the 53-man roster, practice squad and IR lists look heading into Week 9.

Bland was returned to the 53-man roster in Week 9.

Each player on the practice squad can be called up to the big roster a total of 3 times and still revert back to the practice squad following the game without being released to the open market or waivers.

Each team can elevate two players per week through the regular season.

Eligible to be have activation window opened in Week 11.

Jordan Phillips (wrist) was placed on IR ahead of Week 3. He’s now eligible to have his practice window opened.

Earliest return date: Edoga is eligible to have his 21-day practice window opened at any time.

Williams is out for the entire year.

Thomas was placed on IR before the initial 53, so he’s done for the year.

Bostick was placed on IR in training camp so he’s done for the year.

The Denver Broncos are calling up some reinforcements from the practice squad ahead of their Week 8 showdown with the Carolina Panthers.

The Broncos elevated linebacker Kwon Alexander and guard Calvin Throckmorton from the practice squad to the game-day roster on Saturday. They will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Players can be elevated up to three times during the season without having to clear waivers to return to the practice squad. This will mark Throckmorton’s third and final practice squad elevation and Alexander’s second. Denver will need to fully promote Throckmorton to the active roster if the team wants him to play next week.

Throckmorton will provide more depth at center after Luke Wattenberg (ankle) was placed on injured reserve earlier this month. Alexander will serve as the team’s No. 4 linebacker behind Cody Barton, Justin Strnad and Levelle Bailey.

Sunday’s game will be regionally televised on CBS. The Broncos are considered big favorites against the Panthers going into Week 8.

The Dallas Cowboys are going to have to wait at least another week for the debut of the Diggs-DaRon Boundary Duo. After it appeared All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland was trending towards making his season debut against the Lions, what has to be ruled a setback occurred late in the practice week. The troubling part is that after a bye, he missed all three Week 8 practices and still has not been added back to the 53-man roster.

DT Jordan Phillips, who had a controversial move to IR with a wrist injury, has returned to practice this week, but the team did not activate the veteran for this matchup, either. The Cowboys lost TE John Stephens, Jr, earlier this week, suffering an ACL to the same knee that knocked him out of 2023. But all the news is not bad. The Cowboys are elevating RB Dalvin Cook from the practice squad; signaling his debut in a Dallas uniform.

In addition, after three straight games being called up from the practice squad, exhausting his eligibility, Amani Oruwariye has been added to the roster permanently, as the club moved Stephens, Jr. to IR.

As it stands, here is the 53-man roster Dallas will go into Sunday with, pending any additional moves (such as a second elevation, or moving players to IR).

Broncos’ updated 53-man roster for Panthers game in Week 8

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ updated 53-man roster ahead of their upcoming game against the Panthers in Week 8.

The Denver Broncos made a flurry of roster moves before their Thursday Night Football showdown with the New Orleans Saints last week.

Perhaps most notably, the Broncos activated outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot), right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL) and cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) from injured reserve to the 53-man roster.

Denver also elevated linebacker Kwon Alexander and offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton from the practice squad to the game-day roster ahead of their game in New Orleans last week. Alexander and Throckmorton have since reverted back to the practice squad.

The Broncos also cut running back Blake Watson from the active roster and later re-signed him to the practice squad.
