Watch: Chase Young and Nick Bosa combine for sack fumble vs. Jags’ Trevor Lawerence

The newest member of the 49ers is making a positive first impression.

After John Lynch and the San Francisco 49ers made a blockbuster splash on trade deadline day with the acquisition of former Defensive Rookie of the Year Chase Young, the newest member of Kris Kocurek’s pass rush unit made a positive first impression against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Young quickly linked up with his former college teammate with the Ohio State Buckeyes Nick Bosa to collapse the pocket and sack Trevor Lawernce in the second quarter.

Not only did the former Buckeye duo link up for a sack, but they also forced a fumble on the play against Lawerence to give Brock Purdy and the 49ers’ offense the ball at midfield.

Watch: Brock Purdy finds Brandon Aiyuk with must-see throw for TD vs. Jaguars

Brock Purdy got the 49ers’ offense going early against the Jaguars with a must-see touchdown pass in the first quarter.

Riding a three-game losing streak, Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers offense wasted no time striking early against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Purdy methodically drove the 49ers down the field with ease before finding Brandon Aiyuk in the back of the end zone with a must-see throw across the field.

After Purdy scrambled to the left, the young passer tossed a throw across his body to the right for Aiyuk in the end zone with defenders all around the wide receiver.

Behind the Purdy and Aiyuk’s connection, the 49ers went up 7-0 on the road against the streaking Jaguars.

49ers injury update: LT Trent Williams expected to play vs. Jaguars

Trent Williams is expected to return for the #49ers on Sunday vs. the Jaguars.

The 49ers are getting their starting left tackle back according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter late Saturday night Pacific Time reported that Williams is expected to play when the 49ers return from their bye week to face the Jaguars on Sunday.

Williams suffered an ankle injury in Week 6 that kept him out of the 49ers’ Week 7 and Week 8 losses. He didn’t practice Wednesday and was limited the last two practices of the week before being listed as questionable on the injury report.

San Francisco will also get wide receiver Deebo Samuel back for Week 10. He suffered a shoulder injury in Week 6 and also missed the team’s last two games. Samuel was a full participant in practice all week and not on the injury report.

5 things 49ers must do to get back in win column

The #49ers need to do these four things to snag a win in Jacksonville.

The 49ers faceplanted into their bye week with three consecutive losses to the Browns, Vikings and Bengals. Getting back in the win column won’t be easy in Jacksonville on Sunday.

The Jaguars are also coming off their bye week and they enter Sunday’s game riding five consecutive victories.

For San Francisco it’s easy to point to injuries as part of their problem, but there have been some issues that go beyond injured players. The good news is those problems aren’t due to a lack of talent where wholesale changes are needed to right the ship.

Here are four things the 49ers need to do in Jacksonville to get back on a winning track:

49ers injury report: Trent Williams, Javon Hargrave questionable vs. Jaguars

The #49ers injury report for Week 10 is out and it features two key players in the trenches listed as questionable.

The 49ers may have some health issues in the trenches when they face the Jaguars in Week 10.

Left tackle Trent Williams and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave have both been listed as ‘questionable’ on the official status report for Sunday. They’re two of six players officially questionable.

Here’s the full status report:

Out

LG Aaron Banks (toe)
DE Drake Jackson (knee)

Jackson was limited the first two practices of the week and absent Friday before being officially ruled out. Banks is expected to miss a few weeks after injuring his toe in Week 8 before the bye.

Questionable

DE Robert Beal (hamstring)
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle)
DT Javon Hargrave (knee)
CB Darrell Luter (knee)
LT Trent Williams (ankle)
CB Samuel Womack (knee)

It’s unlikely we’ll see any of Beal, Luter or Womack in Week 10 since there’s no room on the roster to activate them and the team has three weeks to decide whether to activate them or place them on season-ending IR.

The knee issue for Hargrave is a little concerning since he was a full participant Wednesday before landing on the practice report as a limited participant the last two days of the week.

Sunday’s win was big for 49ers despite opponent

The opponent doesn’t matter. The #49ers on Sunday played like a team on a mission, and that’s going to matter over the final 7 games no matter who they play.

Typically blowing out a 2-7 team wouldn’t be notable for a 49ers club with playoff aspirations. Sunday’s 30-10 win over the Jaguars was a significant victory for San Francisco though given where they were just a couple weeks ago.

After getting lambasted at home by a Colt McCoy-led Cardinals squad the 49ers were sitting at 3-5 and playing mostly uninspired football. Their season looked to be dead in the water until they knocked off the Rams in a major Week 10 upset on Monday Night Football.

Despite demolishing a good Rams squad, there were still question marks about exactly who or what this year’s 49ers are. Sunday’s blowout in Jacksonville gave at least a partial answer to that question.

They pushed the Jags around in their own building with the same formula they beat the Rams with. The 49ers threw a haymaker with a monster first drive. Against Los Angeles they scored a touchdown after an 18-play opening series. Against Jacksonville they used 20 plays to cap their drive with a field goal. That set a tone for the quick, methodical dismantling of their opponent for the second consecutive week.

The 49ers don’t just have it in them to be good sporadically. They have it in them to stack consecutive good weeks, and by quickly smashing Jacksonville they didn’t allow themselves to fall into the bottom NFL tier where the Jags reside. San Francisco looked like a top-tier team against the Rams, and did the same against Jacksonville.

It doesn’t matter that “it was just the Jaguars” on the opposite sideline from the 49ers on Sunday. The greater battle was happening in their own locker room. San Francisco needed to build on its best win of the year and they did so with authority. This looks like a team that should go to the playoffs, and if they continue playing like this, they’ll be a team nobody wants to face once they get there.
