Must-see: 49ers TE George Kittle makes unbelievable grab for TD

If you haven’t seen this George Kittle catch, watch it. If you have seen this George Kittle catch, watch it again.

The San Francisco 49ers offense was struggling to find the end zone Sunday against the New England Patriots. Then tight end George Kittle made his way into the fold.

Two trip inside the Patriots’ 10 had yielded two field goals. Penalties threatened to derail yet another trip deep into the red zone and had the 49ers facing a third-and-10 at New England’s 12. Quarterback Brock Purdy threw it up for Kittle who went up over three defenders and snagged it.

Unreal throw. Even better catch.

That made it 20-0, 49ers.

49ers get 1st touchdown vs. Patriots from unlikely place

Run Fred Warner his DPOY.

The NFL might want to start making the Defensive Player of the Year trophy for San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner.

He’s up to three forced fumbles and two interceptions this season after snagging an interception off of Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

What made the play so remarkable is that Warner not only had the athleticism to get up and make the interception, but he had the athleticism to get up and follow a couple of blocks into the end zone for the 49ers’ first touchdown of the game vs. New England.

It put the 49ers ahead 13-0 and gave a much-needed spark to a defense that had been struggling.

Rock Ya-Sin messed around with Deebo Samuel and found out

Rock Ya-Sin: Messed around.
Rock Ya-Sin: Found out.

It’s not easy to win a contested catch situation with 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel. New cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, a veteran free agent addition by San Francisco this offseason, found that out the hard way at Thursday’s practice.

Samuel ran a slant with Brandon Allen under center and Ya-Sin read it perfectly. He broke on the ball and got to the receiver as soon as Allen’s pass did. Ya-Sin even got hands on the football. The problem for him was that Samuel also got hands on the football, and when that becomes a battle, it’s not one a cornerback is often going to win.

Here’s video from the 49ers:

Samuel’s nickname comes from the bully in the movie ‘Friday,’ and plays like this help emphasize why the nickname fits. His after-the-catch prowess is what grabs all the headlines for Samuel, but there aren’t many players better at winning in situations like this one. And Rock Ya-Sin learned as much Thursday.

WATCH: 49ers DL Javon Hargrave looks ready for training camp

This video of Javon Hargrave working out is absurd.

Javon Hargrave, the 49ers’ big offseason splash from a season ago, had a somewhat disappointing first season in San Francisco. Their pass rush lacked some and his overall production from his stellar 2022 campaign dipped.

Getting Hargrave back to form will be key in helping the 49ers’ pass rush become the tip of its defensive spear again, and all indications from an Instagram Reel posted by Exos Sports are that Hargrave is already dialed in more than a month before he’s set to report to the 49ers’ facility for training camp.

With Arik Armstead now in Jacksonville following his release this offseason, Hargrave will be tasked with shouldering some of the load left behind by Armstead. He’ll have help with newcomers like Maliek Collins and Jordan Elliott, but the best version of San Francisco’s defense is one where Hargrave looks like an All-Pro on the interior.

WATCH: 1st look at 49ers 1st-round pick WR Ricky Pearsall in action

Here’s a look at 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall on the field for the first time:

It’s important not to overreact to rookie minicamp where getting players’ feet wet with their new teammates and coaches is a more primary goal that determining roster decisions. However, getting a first look at the rookies is always a fun element to the session.

Among the players at rookie minicamp is first-round pick Ricky Pearsall, who has yet to sign his rookie contract. Our friends at 95.7 the Game in San Francisco posted a video on Twitter of Pearsall in his practice jersey and helmet — offering a first look at the first-round pick in a 49ers uniform.

It appears Pearsall is fielding a punt in the video:

Returning punts wasn’t a primary job for Pearsall in college. He had just 15 punt returns, all coming in his two years at Florida in 2022 and 2023. With the position open on the 49ers’ roster they may look for their first-rounder to contribute in that area in Year 1.
