Oklahoma 4-star OT target Lamont Rogers drops Top 8, sets for official visit

Oklahoma is right in the thick of it for four-star tackle Lamont Rogers.

Oklahoma has done a ton of early lifting for its [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag]. After their most recent commitment from four-star cornerback Trystan Haynes, the Sooners rose to fourth in in the nation recruiting rankings for the class of 2025. It was their 15th commitment of the cycle.

Some significant prospects remain to be secured for Brent Venables’ program. One such prospect is consensus four-star offensive tackle Lamont Rogers from Mesquite, Texas.

Rogers is a talented offensive lineman who already stands 6-foot-6 and weighs over 300 pounds. Size-wise, he could slot right into a college program next fall. He has excellent quickness and balance on his feet from doubling as a basketball player and owning the post. It shows in his footwork on the field.

His recruitment is a national one, but he is finally ready to narrow it down. On Monday, he announced his top eight schools.

OU is competing against SMU, Missouri, Texas, LSU, FSU, Texas A&M, and the University of Tennessee for the No. 6 tackle in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

The two big schools from Texas seem to be Oklahoma’s biggest threats, but the Sooners are still in a good spot with Rogers as we head into summer. Rogers has official visits planned for Missouri, Texas, SMU, and A&M. He’ll be in Norman for his official visit on June 18th.

This recruitment is far from decided, and Bill Bedenbaugh cannot be counted out. Over the next few months, the Sooners will have a fascinating recruitment to follow.

USC 2025 recruiting class enters top 5 in 247 composite rankings

USC continues to rise in 2025 football recruiting rankings.

After entering the top three classes in On3’s national team rankings, Lincoln Riley’s staff has the Trojans in the top five in the 247Sports composite rankings. USC added two new running back recruits to boost the total number of commits for the 2025 class to 10 players. The class is represented by two five-star prospects, three four-star players, and four three-star commits. The class is much more balanced now with four commits on offense and six on defense.

Daune Morris, at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Harry Dalton III — who is from Dinwiddie, Virginia — made their commitments to USC and new running backs coach Anthony Jones Jr.

Morris and Dalton join Riley Wormley as future Trojan running backs in the 2025 class. This class now includes a majority of the players, six, who played high school east of the Mississippi.

USC continues is meteoric climb over the past month, passing No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 7 Penn State, and No. 8 Alabama. It’s a long way away from the early signing period that starts in December, but USC is showing signs of returning to its previous lofty status in recruiting.

Sooners latest to offer three-star 2025 prospect Tyler Williams

Oklahoma is the latest to offer three-star wide reciever Tyler Williams of Sumner High School.

The Oklahoma Sooners coaching staff continues to travel the country, stopping at high schools all over to evaluate and offer prospects for the 2025 and 2026 classes. On Wednesday morning, their most recent offer went out to three-star prospect Tyler Williams of Sumner High in Riverview, Florida.

Williams is a two-way star for his high school team, playing offense at wide receiver and free safety for his team’s defense. It’s not particularly clear if the Sooners are recruiting him for wide receiver like most schools offering Williams, though recruiting services seem to think his college position is wide receiver.

At wideout, Williams is an excellent prospect. He has solid size at 6-foot-1 and is just a shade under 200 pounds. He’s a three-sport athlete, so athleticism is not lacking either.

On the hardwood, he averaged 8.4 PPG and 4.3 RPG a game. He also runs track, where he was a regional qualifier in the high jump, posting a personal-best 6-1.5 effort in the event.

On tape, he is a do-it-all wide receiver. He had a highlight reel block, won on a seam route from the slot, repeatedly won outside the numbers, and was able to high-point the ball at his apex. He scored on a couple of screens as well, and for good measure, he returned a punt and kick for a touchdown.

Oklahoma Sooners offer 4-star cornerback and Georgia Bulldogs commit

Jay Valai offered four-star cornerback and UGA commit Tae Harris on Wednesday morning.

Oklahoma’s defensive backs had an up-and-down season in 2023. They’ll be looking for more consistency as the Sooners prepare for the SEC. The Sooner defensive backs are a talented unit, and they had excellent production with interceptions, as the Sooners were in the top five as a team in that category. They can improve to be more sticky in coverage going into 2024.

Jay Valai has been an excellent recruiter since coming to Oklahoma, and he’s looking to continue building that room with an offer to Tae Harris out of Cedartown, Georgia, on Wednesday morning.

Harris, a four-star, six-foot cornerback in the 2025 class, is already committed to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. However, Harris is not planning to shut down his recruitment anytime soon and continues to visit other schools.

The 247Sports composite rankings have Harris rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 221 prospect in the country, the No. 27 cornerback, and the No. 28 prospect in Georgia.

Harris is a dual-sport athlete with excellent track times in the 100-meter dash and some very nice numbers on the gridiron. He is a two-way player for his Cedartown High School team who plays receiver when not locking down receivers. He also showcased versatility as a defensive back and played free safety. He could be a candidate to play the nickel for the Sooners in college given his versatility.

Where LSU’s 2024 recruiting class ranks as the early signing day dust settles

The Tigers currently sit just outside the top 10, but that could still change in the coming days and weeks.

Early signing day has surpassed the regular date in February in prominence over the last few years.

The vast majority of players sign early — as was the case for LSU this season — and the 2024 iteration was filled with quite a bit of drama around the country.

Luckily for the Tigers, not much of that pertained to them. They ultimately signed all 27 players who entered the day committed to them as coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has mostly put a bow on this cycle.

The class currently ranks just outside the top 10, though the situation is still fluid. A few targets remain unsigned including four-star offensive lineman [autotag]Coen Echols[/autotag], who commits Friday, and five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag], who is currently committed to Texas A&M but will sign in February.

Still, the Tigers inked a solid class headlined by top-100 prospects in tight end [autotag]Tre’Dez Green[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Dashawn McBryde[/autotag], as well as blue-chip quarterback [autotag]Colin Hurley[/autotag]. Here’s where it stands in the national rankings after early signing day, per the 247Sports Composite.

Sooners land commitment from in-state 2024 four-star EDGE Danny Okoye

Oklahoma is back on the board with another commitment. The Sooners landed four-star EDGE rusher Danny Okoye on Wednesday evening.

Oklahoma has put together a great recruiting class for 2024, and it just got better along the defensive line. Four-star EDGE [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag] committed to the Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday.

Oklahoma was the choice over Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, and a number of other Power Five schools.

Oklahoma’s pursuit of Okoye started in the summer of 2022 when the Sooners offered in July. Since then, Miguel Chavis has spearheaded that recruitment, keeping Oklahoma in the thick of it.

Okoye cut down his options and posted a top-six featuring the Sooners, Crimson Tide, the Volunteers, Colorado, LSU, and the Texas Longhorns in August.

When speaking to Brett Greenberg of 247Sports back in August (Subscription required), Okoye said this about Oklahoma:

”OU has always been showing the love for me since the beginning. One of the reasons they are in the top six is just after their last season, the amount of work that they’ve put in and the amount of progress they’ve made as a team and program, it’s definitely worth being noticed. The coaching staff is a national championship coaching staff, and I can definitely see OU winning the national championship in the future.”

Oklahoma hosted Okoye for an official visit for the first game of the season when they blew away the Arkansas State Red Wolves. Momentum began to build for Okoye to the Sooners. The Sooners rode the wave and have secured his commitment.

When looking at the 247Sports composite, which takes into account rankings from each of the primary recruiting services, Okoye is pegged as the No. 152 overall recruit in the 2024 class. The four-star also rates as a top-10 edge rusher in the nation and the top player in Oklahoma. He also looks like an EDGE, standing six-foot-four and hovering around 240 pounds. He’s explosive, and during his junior season in 2022, he tallied 43 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, six sacks, one interception, and forced a fumble.

With Okoye’s commitment, Oklahoma now has 24 pledges in the 2024 recruiting. Oklahoma has also moved in front of Josh Heupel’s Tennessee Volunteers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the No. 7 spot in the 247Sports team rankings.

The Sooners’ pursuit of a top-five recruiting class continues with decisions from three-star OL [autotag]Daniel Akinkunmi[/autotag], four-star OT [autotag]Grant Brix[/autotag], three-star CB [autotag]Devon Jordan[/autotag], and four-star LB/S [autotag]Michael Boganowski[/autotag] still to come.

Four-star DL Nigel Smith II chooses Oklahoma Sooners over Texas, Texas A&M

Oklahoma is the choice for four-star defensive lineman Nigel Smith II. Smith commits to the Sooners over Texas, Texas A&M, and Penn State.

Oklahoma landed another defensive lineman from the state of Texas, earning a commitment from consensus four-star defensive lineman Nigel Smith II. Smith represents its fourth defensive line commitment of the 2024 cycle. He picked Oklahoma over Texas, Texas A&M and Penn State.

Smith has been in Oklahoma’s sights since the summer of 2022. The Sooners made an early significant impression on the talented defender. Since their offer, the Sooners continued building a rapport with Smith and making him a priority in this recruiting cycle.

Smith’s decision came at the opening of his Melissa High School’s new stadium. The talented prospect shut his recruitment down nearly a month ago. Since then, Oklahoma has remained the overwhelming favorite to land his commitment.

Smith was once considered a five-star prospect. He has the requisite size and weight and versatility to star in Brent Venables’ defense, which employs both three and four-man defensive fronts. His power jumps off the tape, but he’s fleet-footed enough that he can win with his lateral agility as well.

https://x.com/hayesfawcett3/status/1700305169018212422?s=46

This is a massive recruiting win for Oklahoma, and one it could not afford to lose. The Sooners have multiple defensive linemen who will have no eligibility or will graduate following this season. Hence, Smith’s pledge to the Sooners is even more critical. There’s a chance he could earn a role as a freshman out of pure necessity.

That’s another conversation for another day.

However, as Oklahoma continues to try and transform this roster into one capable of winning in the SEC, securing the pledge of a 6-foot-5, 260-pound defender is a big step in the right direction.

Adding Smith to the Sooners’ class vaults them inside the top 10. It is ranked eighth, according to the 247Sports team recruiting rankings. The Sooners are less than a point behind Tennesseee for the seventh-ranked class in the nation.

Smith becomes the fifth highest-ranked prospect in this Oklahoma recruiting class at No. 83 on 247Sports’ composite and No. 115 on 247Sports’ rankings.

Oklahoma isn’t done adding across its defensive front, though. It is the trending choice for one of the Sooner State’s best, four-star edge Danny Okoye.

Oklahoma also may not be done at Melissa High School. One of Smith’s teammates is also being recruited by the Sooners: Owen Hollenbeck. Hollenbeck is a 2025 interior offensive line prospect who was at Oklahoma on an unofficial last week for their first game of the year. He’s a name to watch over the next few months as well.

Sooners make top five for in-state cornerback Devon Jordan

Devon Jordan, a composite four-star corner out of Oklahoma, named his top five on Tuesday.

Oklahoma’s big miss on Williams Nwaneri will sting a bit, but the Sooners’ [autotag]2024 recruiting class[/autotag] is far from done. There’s still numerous prospects Oklahoma is right in the thick of things for. While missing on the five-star is unfortunate, they must refocus and recalibrate so they can reel in more prospects from their big board.

Another high-priority target is four-star cornerback Devon Jordan, a prospect out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jordan plays at Union High School. He’s a composite four-star player in the 247Sports composite and has the makings of a player who may outperform his slot as he continues to develop.

Oklahoma hosted Jordan for the ChampUBBQ, at which [autotag]Jay Valai[/autotag] was able to spend a bit more time with him. This summer has allowed Jordan to focus on his recruitment. Earlier this summer, he released his top 10. Now he’s chopped that list in half and has named a top five.

The Sooners make the cut again along with TCU, Oklahoma State, Alabama and Texas A&M. Jordan eliminated Iowa State, Missouri and Miami from the mix when he cut it down. Oklahoma has one cornerback committed in the class of 2024, four-star [autotag]Jeremiah Newcombe[/autotag] out of Arizona.

Jordan’s elite speed and quickness allow him to match up well with receivers. He would make a great addition to Oklahoma’s cornerback room, where speed, athleticism and length are being prioritized.

No decision date is set for Jordan, so it remains to be seen when he’ll make his final decision. With Jordan only taking one official visit (Oklahoma State), he’s likely to take more of his officials during the season.

2025 Four-star WR Jaden Nickens commits to Oklahoma Sooners

Four-star 2025 receiver Jaden Nickens committed to Oklahoma on Saturday giving the Sooners five commits for 2025.

In a complete reversal of how the last two recruiting cycles have worked for Oklahoma, things are different about the class of 2025.

Maybe because they know Oklahoma will be in the SEC, or maybe because of how long they’ve been in contact with the coaching staff, the relationships are a bit further along than with prior classes. Whatever the reason, it’s working as Oklahoma is quickly stacking 2025 talent.

The newest member of Oklahoma’s 2025 recruiting class is in-state star Jaden Nickens.

Nickens is a four-star wide receiver from Millwood, Okla. He’s among the brightest stars in the Sooner State and is already a consensus four-star prospect. Nickens committed to Oklahoma over offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.

When looking at Nickens’ film, it’s easy to see why he’s highly regarded. He stands 6-foot-3 and uses his frame to win every contested catch. Playing outside looks to be where Nickens is most comfortable. What stands out when you watch him is how dynamic he is with the ball in his hands.

He’s incredibly effective in the wide receiver screen game. His athleticism is evident on the field. If you need supplemental evidence of his athletic ability, he’s a definitive Power Five basketball player with high major offers from multiple programs.

He’s the No. 119 overall recruit in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. In Oklahoma, he’s a top-three player. His commitment means three of the top six players in the state in 247Sports composite rankings are committed to Oklahoma for 2025. Nickens joins fellow four-star wide receiver Elijah Thomas, and Oklahoma’s 2025 QB commit Kevin Sperry.

The Sooners are putting a stranglehold on in-state recruiting for 2025. Oklahoma is trending to flip another one of the top six prospects in the state state. That is four-star tight end Nate Roberts who is committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Nickens gives Oklahoma five commits for 2025, firmly solidifying their spot in the top four for team recruiting rankings behind Georgia, Alabama, and Oregon.

LSU rises in recruiting rankings after landing Caden Durham

Caden Durham’s addition has lifted LSU in the latest recruiting rankings.

LSU went 1-for-2 on a pair of Duncanville (Tex.) targets on Thursday.

The Tigers missed out on the top prospect on their board in five-star edge rusher [autotag]Colin Simmons[/autotag], who committed to Texas, but they beat out Oklahoma and Texas A&M to land four-star running back [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag].

Durham, a top-200 prospect, gives LSU its first running back commitment in the class. With another blue-chip joining the Tigers’ 23-man 2024 recruiting class, coach Brian Kelly’s group of commits has risen in the recruiting rankings and now sits squarely within the top 10.

Here’s where LSU stands in the latest top 25 of the 247Sports Composite rankings.
