Countdown to kickoff profiles No. 92 Sua Lefotu

The countdown to kickoff is down to 92 days and today, we highlight redshirt freshman Sua Lefotu.

The countdown to the beginning of Nebraska’ 2024 season is now at 92 days. This season, the No. 92 jersey will be donned by defensive lineman Sua Lefotu, a redshirt freshman out of Bellflower, California.

The former St. John Bosco standout was a consensus three-star prospect out of St. John Bosco, ranked by Rivals as a top-100 prospect in the state of California.

In his recruitment, he earned offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Michigan State, Nevada, Tennessee, Washington, and Wisconsin, on top of his offer from the Huskers.

After signing with the Huskers as part of their 2023 recruiting class, Lefotu played in three games in his true freshman season, appearing against Colorado, Michigan, and Iowa. He ultimately would record two tackles as well as one fumble over the course of the season.

In 2024, Lefotu will likely once again serve as a rotational player for the Huskers but could be in line for more playing time. In the Huskers 3-3-5 defense, Lefotu will be a part of a rotation at nose tackle that includes Nash Hutmacher and Riley Van Poppel.

Countdown to kickoff profiles former Husker No. 94 Barry Cryer

Cornhuskers Wire profiles former Husker DT Barry Cryer with the countdown to kickoff down to 94 days.

The countdown to Nebraska’s 2024 season is down to 94 days, however, there is No. 94 on the Cornhuskers 2024 roster. With that, we are going to take a step back in time to highlight former Huskers defensive tackle Barry Cryer.

After a successful career at John Erhret High School in Marrero, Louisiana, Cryter attended Dodge City Community College in Kansas in 2004. A breakout season that included 9.5 sacks on a rather bad Dodge City team, made Cryer one of the top JUCO prospects that season in college football.

After also considering Oklahoma State and Toledo, Cryer ultimately signed with the Huskers ahead of the 2005 season.

In his first season with the program in 2005, Cryer played in all 12 games as a rotational defensive tackle for the Huskers. He ended that 2005 season with six tackles including four  tackles for loss.

One year later in 2006, Cryer earned his way into a starting gig for the Huskers, while playing in all 14 games. In his senior season, he recorded 31 tackles including 10 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He was a key part of the Huskers’ defense that season that helped lead the Huskers to a Big 12 North Division Championship, a Big 12 Championship Game appearance and a Cotton Bowl Classic appearance.

Cryer would go onto earn a training camp invite with the San Diego Chargers ahead of the 2007 NFL season but ultimately did not make the Chargers final roster after appearing in two preseason games.

Originally from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Pankratz originally signed with Furman out of Valor Christian High School. During his time with Furman, Pankratz did not see any playing time in the 2020 or 2021 seasons.

Following the 2021 season, he entered the transfer portal and elected to continue his career with the Huskers. In his first two seasons with the team, he did not appear in any games. That being said, he did earn honors by being named to the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team as well as the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2023. He was also named to the Academic All-Big Ten team this past fall.

In 2024, Pankratz will continue to provide depth for the Huskers as a placekicker, backing up Tristan Alvano. However, if Alvano suffers an injury or struggles at some point, the Colorado native could be in line to see his first playing time this fall.
