Breaking down LSU’s latest commit in DL De’Myrion Johnson

The Tigers added commit No. 16 earlier this week.

LSU added its 16th commitment for the 2024 recruiting class earlier this week with New Iberia (La.) Westgate defensive lineman [autotag]De’Myrion Johnson[/autotag].

Johnson gives coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] another in-state commitment — his 10th total — for the 2024 class. He ranks as a three-star prospect according to most recruiting services, but ESPN has him as a four-star and the No. 205 player in the country.

On3’s industry rankings have him at No. 519, while 247Sports’ composite rankings have him at No. 447.

Johnson is 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds already. He’s a nice first pickup for LSU defensive line coach [autotag]Jimmy Lindsey[/autotag], who was hired away from South Carolina this offseason to replace the outgoing [autotag]Jamar Cain[/autotag].

LSU’s 2024 class now ranks fifth nationally according to 247Sports and 11th per On3.

NEW: 4-star TE Trey’Dez Green commits to LSU

The Tigers picked up their highest-rated commitment so far in the 2024 cycle on Wednesday.

LSU has the makings of a phenomenal tight end class in 2024.

On Wednesday, the Tigers secured the commitment of Jackson (La.) East Feliciana prospect [autotag]Trey’Dez Green[/autotag]. A four-star recruit who ranks as the No. 52 player nationally per On3, Green is the second-best prospect in the state of Louisiana in the cycle.

He chose the Tigers over Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Miami.

Listed at 6-foot-6.5 or 6-foot-5.5 depending on the recruiting service, Green is mainly considered a tight end though some sites list him as a receiver. He’s also a two-sport athlete and standout basketball prospect who plays power forward, and based on his announcement, it appears he intends to play both in college.

His addition gives LSU 14 commitments in a class that ranks in the top five nationally, per the 247Sports composite rankings.

With Green’s commitment, LSU holds pledges from three of the top 10 prospects in the state of Louisiana in 2024, and the Tigers hold Crystal Ball projections for two more in linebacker [autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag] and cornerbacks [autotag]Wardell Mack[/autotag] and [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag].

4-star safety Dashawn McBryde commits to LSU after spring game visit

The Tigers landed their 13th commitment in the 2024 class on Saturday.

It was quite a busy recruiting weekend for LSU with a number of high-profile targets on campus to watch the team’s spring game, and coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has already landed a commitment from one of the players who was in attendance.

Four-star Denham Springs (La.) safety [autotag]Dashawn McBryde[/autotag] pledged to LSU on Saturday during his visit. The 2024 prospect ranks just outside the national top 200 in the On3 industry rankings, currently sitting at No. 209.

LSU has long been considered the heavy favorite to land McBryde, though he had other SEC offers from Florida and Tennessee. He also took a visit to Florida State back in January.

McBryde gives LSU its 13th commitment in a recruiting class that currently ranks fourth nationally, per the 247Sports Composite. He’s the only safety currently among that group, but he’s the third defensive back as he joins corners [autotag]Zion Ferguson[/autotag] and [autotag]Wallace Foster[/autotag].

4-star receiver, LSU target TJ Moore narrows list to 13 schools

The Tigers made the cut for the talented Tampa Catholic receiver.

Class of 2024 recruit TJ Moore has narrowed down his list of schools to 13.

The four-star receiver out of Tampa Catholic has combined elite speed and athleticism with the ability to stick catches in traffic to make a name for himself as a top receiver in the class and is a top-190 recruit, per On3.

Schools on his radar include LSU, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, and others. His highlight tape is full of one-handed grabs and contested catches. The 6’3″ receiver will likely play outside and be a big-play threat for whatever school lands him.

In his junior season at Tampa Catholic, Moore brought in 42 receptions for 1,021 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Moore’s current list consists of schools from four of the five power conferences, excluding the Big 12. His options remain open, and we can expect his list to narrow in the coming weeks as he continues to attend unofficial visits.

LSU flips Duke commit Ahmad Breaux after junior day visit

The Tigers now have the No. 2 class in the country after landing a pair of commitments this weekend.

LSU added its 10th commitment in the 2024 recruiting class on Sunday when it flipped edge rusher [autotag]Ahmad Breaux[/autotag], a three-star edge rusher from Ruston, Louisiana, from the Duke Blue Devils.

Breaux was in Baton Rouge on Saturday as a visitor for LSU’s junior day, and he picked up an offer while on his unofficial visit. He committed to the Tigers the next day, opting to stay home and play in the SEC.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, Breaux is the No. 707 player nationally and No. 16 prospect in Louisiana, according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s a trending player who’s picked up a number of Power Five offers in recent weeks. He had an official visit set for Stanford this week, though it’s unclear if he still intends to make that trip.

Breaux detailed his visit with 247Sports’ Sonny Shipp.

“My day was one of the best experiences ever,” Breaux told 247Sports after he got the offer. “I was warmly welcomed by the entire staff as soon as I came in the football operations center and I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

“The biggest highlight of the day was when I had a great conversation with Coach Matt House, and he gave me a true insight into a system that truly fits me, and it opened my eyes entirely to LSU.”

With the additions of Breaux and linebacker [autotag]Kolaj Cobbins[/autotag], a top-five prospect in Louisiana who committed to the Tigers on Friday, coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] now boasts the No. 2 recruiting class in 2024 as things currently stand.

LSU lands 4-star linebacker Kolaj Cobbins

The Tigers landed their ninth commitment in the 2024 class on Friday night.

The Tigers’ 2024 recruiting class is shaping up to be a special one, and the team added its ninth commit in the cycle on Friday night in four-star Destrehan (La.) linebacker [autotag]Kolaj Cobbins[/autotag].

Cobbins ranks just inside the national top 200 according to 247Sports, and he becomes the fifth top-200 commitment for LSU in the class, which currently ranks third nationally. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect chose the in-state Tigers over Texas, Michigan, Ole Miss, Colorado and others.

The recruiting trail has been key for what coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is building at LSU. He landed the No. 6 high school recruiting class in 2023, and he could be in line to land yet another top-five class.

With a few more additions like Cobbins, it will certainly be within the realm of possibility.

LSU quarterback commit Colin Hurley invited to participate in the Elite 11 regional

LSU’s prized QB commit will compete for a spot in the Elite 11.

[autotag]Colin Hurley[/autotag] will be competing for a spot in the Elite 11.

The class of 2024 quarterback announced he was invited to compete in an Elite 11 regional this summer. It comes as no surprise. Hurley is one of the top QBs in his class even after reclassifying to 2024.

Hurley committed to LSU in November. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Hurley is the 13th-best QB in the class and the 137th-ranked player in the nation.

Hurley has offers from several big-time programs, including division rival Alabama. LSU’s 2024 class currently ranks third in the country with Hurley the crowned jewel.

LSU is well positioned at QB now with [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag], but they won’t be there forever. The Tigers will need an influx of talent at the position and Hurley is a critical part of that.

Hurley’s played varsity football since he was in eighth grade and won a state title as a freshman.

LSU one of several programs off to a hot start recruiting in 2024

The Tigers already have eight commitments in the 2024 class.

The 2024 recruiting cycle has only officially been underway for less than two weeks, but LSU is already well on its way to bringing in another top-10 class.

The Tigers already have eight players committed in 2024, and that class ranks eighth nationally per On3 and third overall according to the 247Sports Composite. The class features three top 150 prospects already, including Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian quarterback [autotag]Colin Hurley[/autotag], who reclassified from 2025.

LSU was listed by On3 as one of the teams off to a great start in the 2024 cycle. Here’s what Keegan Pope had to say about coach Brian Kelly’s class so far.

Commitments: 8
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 90.21
On3 Consensus Team Ranking: No. 8

In his first year in Baton Rouge, Brian Kelly returned LSU to the upper echelons of college football recruiting with one of the country’s best and deepest classes. And he’s wasting no time building another one in 2024. Despite having most of their top targets still on the board, the Tigers have already grabbed eight commits, five of whom rank in the top-200 nationally.

Four-star quarterback Colin Hurley leads the way, but arguably the most impressive part of LSU’s commit list is where they come from. Only one of the top six recruits in Louisiana has committed already, leaving a chance for the Tigers to clean up in their own state.

As Pope mentions, many of the top players in the state of Louisiana remain on the board, meaning this class has the potential to add a lot more talent before it’s all said and done.

Recruiting — both in high school and the transfer portal — have been key to what Kelly is building at LSU. His first two recruiting cycles were impressive, and 2024 has the potential to be his best yet.

Blue-chip LSU commit says he’s still open to other opportunities

Joseph Stone says he hasn’t closed his recruiting as he’s garnering quite a bit of interest from other programs.

The 2024 recruiting cycle just officially began, and LSU is already piecing together one of the top classes in the country. It features eight commits already and ranks third nationally, per the 247Sports Composite.

However, one of the top players currently in that group is far from a done deal.

Four-star Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes receiver [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] is the second-highest-rated commit in the Tigers’ class, and the No. 125 player nationally has been committed to LSU since July. However, schools have continued to recruit him since then, and it seems they’ve found an open ear.

Stone told On3’s Jeremy Johnson that his recruitment isn’t closed, and he’s still having conversations with other potential suitors, though he did praise LSU’s staff and said he still has a connection with the program.

He named several programs that were continuing to pursue him, including Texas A&M. He said that he plans to take an official visit to LSU in addition to Miami, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Oregon. He said he also intends to take unofficial visits with the Aggies, the Ducks, USC and Alabama, which he was originally planning to visit last week but didn’t make the trip.

Stone remains committed to the Tigers, but it seems other programs have made the 5-foot-11 receiver a priority. LSU will hope it can keep him on board in the coming months.

Looking at LSU football’s commits so far in No. 1-ranked 2024 class

A running tracker of the Tigers’ 2024 commitments.

It’s never too early to look at recruits that are two years away, right? These kids are going into their junior year of high school this fall, but they already have big dreams and aspirations of playing in Death Valley and donning the purple and gold.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is getting out ahead of his competition and earning commitments from the best players in the class of 2024. So far, the Tigers have eight commits for this class — ranking No. 1 nationally, per On3 — and that list is growing by the day. So, let’s take a look at all of the athletes that have committed to playing for LSU in 2024.

Disclaimer: Even though these kids are currently committed to LSU until they put pen to paper and sign their names on the dotted line, they can change their minds and play elsewhere. This list will be updated as more players commit.
