Freshman athlete Terry Bussey’s role with Texas A&M is becoming clearer

Terry Bussey should see the field in some capacity this season

With another SEC media days in the books, new Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has much to work with ahead of his inaugural season. He inherited an already talented and experienced roster while landing several key 2024 commitments, led by five-star athlete Terry Bussey.

Weaving through Elko’s quotes from last week, Bussey, who has yet to practice with the team after arriving on campus this summer, is much too talented to keep off the field this season. His elite versatility can only be compared to current Colorado star Travis Hunter, who plays both cornerback and wide receiver. Bussey played quarterback, wide receiver and cornerback during his historic career at Tipson High School.

Elko was asked about Bussey’s status and revealed fall practice will likely determine his position fit:

“Terry was a huge get for us… He is a tremendous athlete. We think he has a really bright present and future. He still has not had an official Texas A&M football practice.”

“I think he will start on defense, but everyone is aware of the flexibility he has to help us in a lot of ways.”

Rumors regarding his permanent position in College Station range from staying at cornerback to returning punts while spending some time at wide receiver when asked, so it’s similar to what we’ve seen from Hunter in Boulder.

Something to note: Texas A&M’s cornerback room is much deeper, but at the slot corner spot, former Florida CB Jaydon Hill could see added competition with Bussey next month. The freshman is too quick and instinctual to keep off the field.

During his 2023 high school senior season, Bussey recorded 2,950 combined passing and rushing yards, scoring 41 touchdowns.

Texas A&M’s 2024 freshmen class has arrived at College Station

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class has arrived on campus!

A new era of Texas A&M football is coming to College Station, as head coach Mike Elko and his staff welcomed the the 2024 recruiting class, led by five-star athlete Terry Bussey, as all 17 young men have officially arrived on campus, as every Aggie fan should be very excited.

This offseason has seen significant strides in multiple areas, with Elko spearheading a transformation of the 2024 roster. The acquisition of nearly 30 players from the transfer portal has filled several gaps, and the secondary, on paper, appears to be a formidable strength, a stark contrast to last season’s struggles.

Concerning the 2024 freshman class, Terry Bussey’s position is still up in the air. Still, the expectation is that he will contribute on special teams as a kick/punt returner, but playing as a wide receiver or cornerback is still possible.

However, Bussey isn’t the only young player who could contribute as soon as this coming season. Edge Solomon Williams, wide receiver Izaiah Williams, and linebacker Tristan Jernigan are just a few others who have a chance to make an impact in 2024.

Where does Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class land in On3’s blue chip signees rankings?

On3’s 2024 Blue Chip Rankings place Texas A&M’s talented 2024 recruiting class in the upper echelon among three SEC programs.

Texas A&M’s football program is now under new leadership, as new head coach Mike Elko has only been on the job for two full months, already acquiring 22 players from the transfer portal while solidifying the Aggies’ 2024 recruiting class to boot.

During Wednesday’s National Signing Day, Elko and his staff secured signings from several 2024 commits, headlined by 5-star athlete Terry Bussey, possibly the top overall player in the cycle. While Bussey’s signing was a huge sigh of relief for both the coaching staff and the Aggie fan base, 3-star offensive tackle Robert Bourdon and 4-star wide receiver Ashton Belton-Roman are two significant late additions to the class.

According to On3, Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is currently the 17th-ranked class in the nation, but what sticks out the most is their high percentage of “blue chip” prospects among the 17 signees—taking the “quality over quantity” approach, where do the Aggies land among the Top 10 programs in blue chip signees?

Here are On3’s Top 10 programs in accordance with blue chip (4-star, 5-star signees) players in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Texas A&M HC Mike Elko thinks 5-star commit Terry Bussey could play like Colorado’s Travis Hunter

Bussey officially committed to the Aggies this week and coach Mike Elko discussed how he plans to use the talented athlete at Kyle Field.

University of Colorado Boulder junior Travis Hunter put the college football world on notice this past season with his versatility, playing all three facets of the game on offense, defense and special teams.

Texas A&M may have its own three-way superstar following national signing day on Wednesday. 5-star prospect Terry Bussey officially committed to the Aggies this week and head coach Mike Elko discussed how he plans to use the talented athlete at Kyle Field.

“Both ways all of the time is hard, but when you have a kid that’s as dynamic as he is, you have to find ways for him to impact the football game,” Elko said. “Some of that will be in the return game, in spot ways on offense, and we anticipate a lot of that being on defense.

“For us, he’s going to come in at corner, but he’ll certainly have a role with the ball in his hand in the return game and as a specialist in some situations.”

Bussey’s potential is through the roof and fans in Aggieland should be extremely excited to see him put on the Maroon & White this fall.

After 2024 5-Star ATH Terry Bussey’s signing, here are Texas A&M’s Top 10 All-Time commits

After 2024 5-Star athlete Terry Bussey’s signing, where does he rank among Texas A&M’s Top 10 All-Time commitments?

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is now complete, as head coach Mike Elko finished things out during Wednesday’s National Signing Day, headlined by the signing of long-time commit, 5-star athlete Terry Bussey, followed by 3-star offensive tackle Robert Bourdon and 4-star wide receiver Ashton Belton-Roman.

Finishing with the now 16th-ranked recruiting class according to 247Sports, Elko has already proven this recruiting prowess after two solid seasons as Duke’s head coach and his four seasons as A&M’s defensive coordinator under Jimbo Fisher have aided in his success in developing lasting relationships.

Terry Bussey’s signing is by far one of the program’s most significant recruiting victories for any head coach, as the No. 1-ranked athlete in the class has a chance to have a Travis Hunter-like collegiate career as Elko recently stated that he will start out as a cornerback, but receive snaps on offense throughout his Aggie career.

“For us, he’s going to come in at corner, but he’ll certainly have a role with the ball in his hand in the return game and as a specialist in some situations.”

So, where does Bussey stand among Texas A&M’s All-Time high school commitments? Here are the Top 10 prospects to sign with Texas A&M over the last two decades, per 247Sports.

‘We’re one of the flagship programs in this state’, Mike Elko dishes on the Aggies’ recruiting haul

Hear what Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko had to say after the conclusion of National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is now complete, and head football coach Mike Elko deserves to take a victory lap after signing long-time 5-star commit Terry Bussey ranked as the top athlete in the 2024 cycle. Combined with signees including 4-star wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman and 3-star offensive tackle Robert Bourdon, the future is very bright in College Station.

So far, Elko has hired a top-notch staff while keeping most of the program’s 2024 commits after the firing of Jimbo Fisher while gaining 22 players from the transfer portal, essentially rebuilding A&M’s roster ahead of his inaugural season at the helm.

Bussey’s signing signaled the overwhelming trust that recruits have in Elko and his staff, compared to prospects like 2024 5-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman, who flipped to Auburn after Fisher’s dismissal.

While there is a lot of work to be done before spring football next month, Elko took a bevy of questions from the media after the completion of NSD on Wednesday. Here’s what he had to say.

2024 4-Star WR and former Arkansas commit is now predicted to sign with Texas A&M

On3’s Sam Spiegelman has submitted his prediction for 2024 4-star WR Ashton Bethel-Roman to sign with Texas A&M on Wednesday, Feb. 7 (National Signing Day).

Late last week, it was reported that 2024 4-star wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman, out of Missouri City, Texas, had been formally released from his LOI (letter of intent) with the Arkansas Razorbacks, opening up his recruitment after visiting College Station last month.

Slated to sign with a team during National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 7, Bethel-Roman has kept in contact with Aggies head coach Mike Elko and new wide receivers coach Holman Wiggins, leading to On3’s Sam Spiegelman’s official prediction for the future playmaker to sign with Texas A&M.

According to 247Sports, Bethel-Roman is posited as the 134th-ranked player in the 2025 recruiting cycle, the 27th-ranked wide receiver, and the 24th-ranked player in Texas. During his 2023 senior season at Ridge Point High School, Bethel-Roman recorded 49 receptions for 964 yards and 9 touchdowns through the air.

On Wednesday, the Aggies look to lock down three 2024 prospects, headlined by 5-star athlete Terry Bussey, 3-star OL Robert Bourdon, and now, Ashton Bethel-Roman.

2024 ATH and Aggie commit Terry Bussey has announced his signing time for Wednesday, Feb. 7

2024 5-star ATH Terry Bussey will officially sign with either Texas A&M, LSU, or Georgia in the early morning on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

The recruiting chronicles of 2024 5-star athlete Terry Bussey will finally come to an end, as the highly talented, versatile playmaker, who is currently committed to Texas A&M, is also considering LSU and Georgia before signing with either program on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 9:00 a.m. CT.

All three programs are deadlocked entering tomorrow’s announcement; however, Bussey is coming off his final visit to College Station last weekend, meeting with new Aggies head coach Mike Elko and his staff, which looks to be a good sign, if any.

Last week, On3’s Sam Spiegelman announced that Bussey was down to signing with either A&M or LSU, but after canceling his visit with the Tigers to do an in-home visit with Georgia last Friday, things make have changed.

Regarding his relationship with the new Texas A&M staff, Bussey, in an interview with On3 noted his close relationship with several position coaches, including Aggie’s cornerbacks coach Ishmael Aristide:

“I’ve been getting to know the new staff,” Bussey told On3 earlier this month. “It’s been great building a relationship with coach Elko, coach (Ishmael Aristide) and I’m building relationships with other coaches they already have on staff. They’re great guys, great people, they know a lot about football and they’re great football-minded people.”

According to On3, Bussey is currently positioned as the 30th-ranked player in the 2024 class, the No. 1-ranked athlete, and the 8th-ranked player in Texas.

Another batch of highly touted 2025 prospects have made their way to Texas A&M

According to TexAgs’ Ryan Brauninger, over 30 Texas-based prospects are visiting Texas A&M this weekend, including several key 2025 recruits.

Texas A&M head football coach Mike Elko has already proven his recruiting prowess. Already landing multiple prospects in the 2025 recruiting class, Elko and his staff are currently hosting 2024 5-star athlete and current commit Terry Bussey before he makes his final signing decision on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Joining Bussey this weekend, TexAgs’ Ryan Brauninger has confirmed that over 30 Texas-based prospects from multiple recruiting classes have made their way to College Station this Saturday, including several high-priority 2025 recruits led by 4-star running back Tory Blaylock, 4-star wide receiver Taz Williams and 3-star wide receiver, and son of Hall of Fame RB Jerome Bettis, Jerome Bettis Jr.

While Bussey’s impending decision has been the central news story in Aggie media over the past week, the recruiting momentum in the 2025 cycle has quietly continued building, as the potential to land multiple commitments this week is more possible than not.

With Texas and Oklahoma set to enter the SEC at the start of the 2024 season, hosting Taz Williams and Tory Blaylock this weekend is a significant win for Elko thus far, hoping to keep both players in the state and out of the Longhorns and Sooners’ grasps.

2024 5-Star ATH and Aggie commit Terry Bussey is reportedly down to two programs

According to On3’s Sam Spiegelman, 2024 5-star athlete Terry Bussey is reportedly down to signing with either Texas A&M or LSU.

Texas A&M’s lone unsigned commit in the 2024 recruiting cycle outside of recent OL Duke flip Robert Bourdon, 5-star athlete Terry Bussey has been committed to the program since last September, forgoing early signing day in late Dec. to gauge his options further.

Last week, it was reported by On3’s Sam Spiegelman that Bussey had planned several last-minute visits to Georgia on Friday, Jan. 26, LSU on Wednesday, Jan. 31, and, coming this Friday, a final visit to Texas A&M on Friday, Feb. 2.

With both visits to Georgia and LSU complete, Spiegelman has revealed that Bussey is reportedly down to just two programs: Texas A&M and the rival LSU Tigers.

Texas A&M has already lost several former 2024 commits to the Tigers since the end of last year, some due to the firing of head coach Jimbo Fisher and the hiring of new head coach Mike Elko just a week later. While Bussey has developed a close relationship with Elko and his staff, nothing is set in stone, as he recently noted in an interview with On3:

“I’ve been getting to know the new staff,” Bussey told On3 earlier this month. “It’s been great building a relationship with coach Elko, coach (Ishmael Aristide) and I’m building relationships with other coaches they already have on staff. They’re great guys, great people, they know a lot about football and they’re great football-minded people.”

According to On3, Bussey is currently positioned as the 30th-ranked player in the 2024 class, the No. 1-ranked athlete, and the 8th-ranked player in Texas.
