The Bills listed a very humorous reason as to why new CB Rasul Douglas missed his first day of practice

Rasul Douglas didn’t practice for the Bills on Wednesday. The reason as to why is pretty funny.

The Buffalo Bills added a veteran cornerback in Rasul Douglas from the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

On Wednesday, they found a fantastic way to share with fans why Douglas wasn’t practicing for his first day in Buffalo.

On the team’s first injury report of the week, the team listed the normal ailments that are bugging players and what their practice status was for the day.

For Douglas, they shared that he did not practice, but not for reasons concerning any injuries. They simply listed the reason as “just got here.”

That is a delightful way to point out Douglas’ absence from the Bills practice, as it makes perfect sense for a brand-new player to miss a little time on the field while he’s getting acclimated to his new surroundings.

Hey, we hope Douglas can get out there on the practice field soon for the Bills, as injuries are starting to pile up for the Super Bowl-contending team.

Seeing quarterback Josh Allen’s name on the list with a right shoulder injury and a “did not practice” moniker might be worrisome, but that just might be precautionary as opposed to something serious.

Maybe Allen and Douglas both will be out there soon enough; Bills fans will surely hope so.

Twitter reacts to 49ers’ trade for DE Chase Young

Twitter was full of takes as the San Francisco 49ers landed a deal with Washington for DE Chase Young.

The San Francisco 49ers, who already have a fierce pass rush with Nick Bosa and Javon Hargrave, decided they needed even more firepower.

The 49ers traded with the Washington Commanders Tuesday for the services of defensive end Chase Young. The former 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year joins his former college teammate at Ohio State to wreak havoc in the Bay Area. All it cost the 49ers to add more to their impressive defensive line was a third-round pick.

Twitter was on point with takes as some NFL fans experienced JOMO seeing Young go for that price. Here are some of the best.

Bills get CB Rasul Douglas from Packers. Grade: B+

The Bills’ trade for ex-Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas could be an object lesson in getting a good player out of a bad situation.

If the Buffalo Bills were going to get through the 2023 regular season and make any noise in the playoffs, they were going to have to find a way to replace No. 1 cornerback Tre’Davious White, who is out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in early October. Buffalo’s defense allowed an opponent Offensive EPA per Play of -0.26 with White on the field, and -0.01 when he’s been off. As opposing EPA is better when it’s negative, that gives you a good idea of White’s value.

Buffalo’s opponent Passing EPA per Play splits with and without White have been even more severe — -0.33 when he was on the field, and -0.02 when not. Now, we also have to take into account the injury losses of defensive lineman DaQuan Jones and linebacker Matt Milano, but the point still stands. White is the only Bills cornerback this season with an interception, and the only Bills cornerback allowing an opponent passer rating lower than 100 (80.6). The Bills’ cornerback rotation outside of White is decent enough, but without an alpha, it doesn’t work nearly as well.

So, if you look at the metrics for cornerback Rasul Douglas, who the Bills got in a trade with the Packers on Tuesday, it may look like another beta in a group filled with them. Buffalo got Douglas and a fifth-round pick for a third-round pick sent to Green Bay, and on the season so far, Douglas has allowed 23 catches on 34 targets for 274 yards, 102 yards after the catch, three touchdowns, one interception, five pass breakups, and an opponent passer rating of 109.2.

Further, Douglas’ seeming regression over the last three seasons would have you thinking that the Bills were chasing fool’s gold here.

But we need additional context to determine the success of this deal, and that comes from the tape. And the tape shows a defender who’s patient but aggressive, with all the movement skills required to at least contend with most opposing No. 1 receivers.

On this incompletion of a Jameis Winston pass to Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints in Week 3, Douglas matched Thomas on a quick comeback out of Cover-1, and shut it down.

And on this Jimmy Garoppolo pass to Jakobi Myers against the Raiders in Week 5, Douglas tore off his original assignment of receiver Tre Tucker to break up the crosser in Cover-3. The recognition skills and closing speed are what Bills head coach Sean McDermott and his staff liked when investigating this deal.

Metrics can’t really account for busted coverages, but tape can, and there were enough of those for the Packers this season to give Douglas the benefit of the doubt.

Douglas didn’t thrive as much as one might expect in Barry’s defense, but you could count on one hand the players who have in the last three seasons. Douglas’ complete skill set might be just what the Bills need to turn their defense around.

The stats are a bit squirrely, but the tape doesn’t lie.

Winners and losers from the 2023 NFL trade deadline

Whether they were active or stagnant, which teams won and lost the 2023 NFL trade deadline?

Well that was something (?).

Yes, the NFL trade deadline has reached its midnight hour, and several players that were expected to have new homes remained within the walls they had already occupied.

That said, some players did get moved, but were they good moves? And what teams will be left with their head in their palms wishing they had been a tad more aggressive? Here are the winners and losers from the NFL trade deadline.

5 NFL players who should’ve been traded at the deadline, including Davante Adams

These five NFL players should’ve been traded at the deadline.

The 2023 NFL trade deadline has come and gone, and various NFL teams are now looking over the big moves that they’ve made to either bolster their rosters or add draft picks for the future.

As we look over the final results of this year’s trade deadline, it’s worth thinking about the NFL teams players who didn’t get moved before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET final horn.

All of these players could have found new homes by the deadline, and these teams might regret not making a move if these players wind up elsewhere in the offseason.

Let’s break down who these guys are and why they should’ve been traded.

9 biggest winners (49ers!) and losers (sigh, Bears) of the 2023 NFL trade deadline

The 49ers’ defense loading up and the confusing Bears headlined a strange trade deadline.

Well, that was kind of disappointing, wasn’t it?

Heading into Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, we expected a flurry of moves spurred by championship contenders recognizing their flaws and mediocre teams looking to the future. What we got instead was a small spattering of trades that may or may not have had any bearing on the 2023 season, with everyone turtling and mostly playing it safe. Go figure.

But it wasn’t a completely uneventful day.

A Super Bowl 58 favorite added a high-upside pass-rusher. At the same time, the league’s worst marquee team metaphorically drove circles around in the parking lot while a superstar receiver in Nevada resigned himself to an aimless future. And we can’t forget the smart, understated move from a western New York squad addressing a major defensive need.

Let’s break down For The Win’s the winners and losers of the 2023 NFL trade deadline.

5 NFL teams that should’ve made a move at the 2023 trade deadline, including the Ravens

These 5 NFL teams should’ve made a move at the trade deadline.

The 2023 NFL trade deadline has come and gone, and various NFL teams are now looking over the big moves that they’ve made to either bolster their rosters or add draft picks for the future.

As we look over the final results of this year’s trade deadline, it’s worth thinking about the NFL teams who chose not to participate by either adding talent or gaining assets by trading away veterans.

It always takes two to tango in these situations, but these five NFL teams arguably could’ve done more to take advantage of deadline season.

It’s not the end of the world for any of these teams, but they’re worth mentioning.

NFL fans roasted the Bears for trading more for Montez Sweat than the 49ers did for Chase Young

The Bears CANNOT be serious right now.

Holy NFL trade deadline, Batman. We have movement in the trenches.

The Washington Commanders are shaking, rattling and rolling. General manager Martin Mayhew has sent defensive ends Montez Sweat and Chase Young packing.

Sweat is headed to the Chicago Bears, and Young is headed to the San Franciso 49ers. The two moves have caused absolute chaos among NFL fans, but it’s not because the players will no longer be on the team. It’s the trade compensation that has fans cracking some serious jokes.

Sweat, who is three years older than Young, is off to Chicago in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick. Yet, the 49ers, who also traded with the Commanders, only sent a third-round pick to get Young.

Right on cue, fans roasted the Bears for giving up more than they likely should have for a player who is older and arguably has a lower ceiling.

If you know a Bears fan, they might need a hug.

Twitter reacts to the Vikings’ trade for Cardinals QB Josh Dobbs

Here is a look at Twitter’s reaction to the Minnesota Vikings trade for Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Dobbs.

The Minnesota Vikings needed a quarterback. Kirk Cousins’ Achilles injury made them the most convincing team to buy at the trade deadline.

The Vikings did what must be done, and shopped with the Arizona Cardinals for quarterback Josh Dobbs. The former Pittsburgh Steelers 2017 fourth-round pick is on his seventh different team. Dobbs’ lone win of 2023 is from Week 3 when the Cardinals beat the Dallas 28-16 at home. With Arizona, Dobbs went 167 for 266 with 1,569 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. On the ground, the 28-year-old carried 47 times for 258 yards and three touchdowns.

Twitter did not hesitate to provide reactions to the trade. Here is a sampling.

49ers bag Chase Young in massive deadline deal. Grade: A+

The 49ers’ blockbuster trade for Chase Young is one of those moves that’s impossible to criticize in the short term.

The Washington Commanders traded away their two foundational edge-rushers on Tuesday, Montez Sweat was traded to the Chicago Bears in a move that had a lot of people shaking their heads, and then, the San Francisco 49ers swept in and got Chase Young for a 2024 third-round pick, which has Steve Wilks’ defensive line looking like THIS:

Holy cats. How did this happen? The Commanders are clearly building (re: tanking) for the future, and the 49ers, who allowed 13.6 points per game in their 5-0 opening win streak, and 24.0 points per game in their recent 0-3 slide, have another impact guy on a defense that has underperformed of late.

The 49ers also now have the second-overall pick in the 2019 draft (Bosa) and the second-overall pick in the 2020 draft (Young) — both from Ohio State. This season, Bosa has 44 total pressures, ranking third in the NFL behind Maxx Crosby and Aidan Hutchinson, and Young has 29 pressures, tied for eighth in the league.

That should mean very, very bad news for opposing offensive tackles.

Young’s speed to the pocket is his calling card, as he showed on this sack of Tyrod Taylor of the Giants in Week 7. Left tackle Justin Pugh didn’t have much of a response as a career offensive guard.

And on this sack of Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4, Young gave left tackle Jordan Mailata a nasty double move on his way to the quarterback.

Like Sweat, Young is in the last year of his current contract. But unlike Sweat, Young goes to an absolute contender, and a re-signing might be far more in the Cards. Given the relative lack of draft capital given, and what Young should do for San Francisco’s edges, it’s hard not to see this as a pure steal.
