Vikings have two former Super Bowl matchups on 2023 schedule

When looking at the 2023 NFL schedule, the Minnesota Vikings have two rematches from past Super Bowls.

The Minnesota Vikings will welcome two familiar foes during the 2023 regular season.

During the 2023 season, the Vikings will match up against the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders, marking two former Super Bowl rematches.

The Vikings’ matchup against the Chiefs and Raiders are just two of the 26 former Super Bowl matchups during the season.

In week five, the Vikings will welcome the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs and Vikings played each other in Super Bowl IV, which was the final Super Bowl before the NFL-AFL merger. The Chiefs defeated the Vikings 23-7 that season.

Then, in week 14, the Vikings will travel to Las Vegas to play the Raiders. The Raiders and Vikings met in Super Bowl XI, which the Raiders won for their first Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XI was also the Vikings’ last Super Bowl appearance to date.

The Vikings are 11-18 in games against the Chiefs or Raiders.

Ranking every Vikings’ opposing quarterback in 2023

The Minnesota Vikings are set to face some immensely talented quarterback in the 2023 season.

The NFL has announced the 2023 schedule, allowing Minnesota Vikings fans an early glimpse at their opponents.

The Vikings will play six playoff teams from 2022, including the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and NFC Champions Philadelphia Eagles.

Those two games also offer Vikings fans a glimpse at two of the league’s best quarterbacks. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is considered by many to be the best quarterback in the league, while Jalen Hurts is fresh off of a large payday.

The Vikings will also get an up-close view of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who is continuing his ascension up quarterback rankings.

While some teams on the Vikings’ schedule will go through training camp with a quarterback competition, ranking the 14 quarterbacks the Vikings will play is an interesting way to gauge each opponent’s perceived talent.

17 ex-Vikings set to face former team in 2023

The Minnesota Vikings will be facing a lot of former teammates during the 2023 season.

The Minnesota Vikings are no exception when it comes to NFL rosters changing from year to year. This offseason, we witnessed several long-time players leaving to join other teams. However, with a new season on the horizon, we will soon see them again.

The Vikings will be taking on a lot of old friends, including ones that were Vikings for a long time.

Airfares for Vikings’ away games are already skyrocketing after schedule announcement

Leading up to and following the 2023 NFL schedule release, flights to various cities wehre the Minnesota Vikings play are skyrocketing.

If you’re looking to travel to a Minnesota Vikings away game, you might want to start booking flights.

Following various leaks of the Vikings’ 2023 schedule, the fares for flights from Minnesota to various away game locations have increased.

According to Google’s flight tracker, tickets to Las Vegas for their Dec. 10 game are $265. Flights from Minneapolis to Las Vegas are often under $200, but supply and demand means higher ticket prices.

According to the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling, tickets to Las Vegas are up $90 from just a few hours ago.

According to KSTP-TV’s Chris Long, the same can be said for the Vikings’ Week 11 matchup against the Denver Broncos. The cheapest flight to Denver for the Nov. 19 weekend is currently $192, but the second-cheapest one increases to north of $300.

These situations shouldn’t come as a surprise. Ultimately, airfares are dictated by supply and demand. When the dates of the Vikings’ away games were yet to be announced, people were not booking flights.

Outside of the Vikings’ normal NFC North opponents, the Vikings will also play the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals on the road.

Zulgad’s four-and-out: Vikings’ to be tested early by top QBs and other schedule-related observations

The Minnesota Vikings will be tested early by some of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. @jzulgad breaks down that and more.

There are still four months before the Vikings kick off the regular season, but at least we now know what their schedule will look like. The NFL released its 2023 schedule on Thursday and there are several things that stood out when it comes to the Vikings.

One of the biggest differences from a year ago is that Minnesota will face only one NFC North opponent in the first six weeks. That will come on Oct. 15 at Chicago. Last season, the Vikings opened against Green Bay and also played Detroit and Chicago in the first five weeks.

The Vikings also will see a couple of familiar faces early on as linebacker Eric Kendricks will visit with the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 and Minnesota will travel to face wide receiver Adam Thielen and the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.

Here are four other things we found interesting about the Vikings’ schedule.

Philadelphia Eagles’ 2023 schedule leaks tracker

Details of the Eagless schedule will trickle out throughout the day, and Philadelphia’s Super Bowl rematch with Kansas City will happen on a Monday night

The Eagles are the reigning NFC East champions, and after winning the NFC and reaching the Super Bowl, they’ll see an uptick in the competition going forward.

Because Philadelphia was a first-place team, it earned Nick Sirianni’s team a first-place schedule. Such a scenario would have Philadelphia facing their usual division foes twice (Dallas, Washington, New York) while also facing all four teams in the NFC West and AFC East.

They’ll also play high-profile road matchups against the Chiefs, Patriots, and Jets.

One of their important regular season matchups could come in Week 2 against a familiar opponent.

Seahawks will travel the most miles in NFL… again

Good way to get those air miles points

The official 2023 NFL schedule release is tomorrow, May 11th but fans of the Seattle Seahawks already know one thing: they will have to watch their team travel… a lot.

Yet again, the Seattle Seahawks will lead the entire league with most miles traveled at 31,600. For a second straight year, Seattle will lead the NFL in this dubious category. Naturally, this news is not going unnoticed by those who will actually have to travel these miles.

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett is of course referencing last year’s trip to Munich, Germany against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2022, the Seahawks traveled 29,446 miles. Even without a visit across the pond, Seattle increase their total mileage.

Ultimately, this should not be all that surprising, especially when looking at a map of which cities have NFL franchises. Like with most sports, the Seattle-based team is always the most geographically isolated. The Emerald City, comparatively speaking, is a bit of an outpost when it comes to professional sports.

Vikings to travel fifth-fewest miles during 2023 season

Even with the Vikings playing nine true road games, they won’t have to travel long distances to get there.

The Minnesota Vikings are hoping to capitalize on one of the advantages of being a professional team in the Midwest this season. Bill Speros of bookies.com calculated the distance that each team in the NFL will have to travel this season and the Vikings will have a favorable travel schedule. They rank fifth in the NFL for the fewest projected travel miles, as they will travel a total of 13,226 miles during their nine road games, crossing 16 time zones.

The Vikings’ nine road games this season are relatively close, which is helpful since all their division rivals are less than 550 miles away. Last season the Vikings traveled 18,360 miles. This ranked 19th in the NFL and included a trip to London.

When the Vikings traveled to London last season, they worked with trainer Tyler Williams to determine the best way to deal with the time change, a decision praised by the players. Although the NFL schedule has not been released yet, minimizing travel is always beneficial for a team looking to optimize their recovery following games.

With the NFL being highly competitive, teams need every advantage they can get, and the Vikings will seek to make the most of the minimal travel they have to do this season.

Eagles to host the Giants on Christmas Day

The Philadelphia Eagles will host the New York Giants on Christmas Day as part of an NFL triple-header

The Eagles will be home on Christmas Day, and football will be played, as the NFL announced Lincoln Financial Field would be the place in Week 16.

Philadelphia swept their division rivals last season — a 48-22 Week 14 win and a 22-16 Week 18 win in which the Giants rested many starters.

The NFL has scheduled six Christmas games over the past three years- one in 2020, two in 2021, and three in 2022- and they all registered massive TV ratings while competing against the NBA’s host of games on that same day.

The Monday games will be staggered throughout the day, with kickoff times at 1 p.m. ET, 4:30 p.m. ET and 8:20 p.m. ET.
