Pete Prisco sends the Vikings electric wide receiver in latest mock draft

The Vikings getting an electric wide receiver in the draft is one of the best-case scenarios.

When the Minnesota Vikings released veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen this offseason, it catapulted the need for wide receiver to the top. While the Vikings still have K.J. Osborn and T.J. Hockenson on the roster, it would behoove them to add depth at the position.

On Tuesday, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports released his latest mock draft, and he had the Vikings selecting Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers.

Adam Thielen is gone, which means more double teams than ever for Justin Jefferson if they don’t get him help. That’s why taking a player like Flowers makes sense. He is a talented receiver who would step in and give the Vikings a nice trio with Jefferson and K.J. Osborn.

Flowers is an electric receiver who can stretch the field with his speed. While he is a smaller prospect, his college film shows him playing bigger than his size. Additionally, Flowers possesses a good ability to run after catching the ball.

If the Vikings were to draft Flowers on Thursday, it would provide them with another threat on offense, making it even more challenging for defenses to strategize against them.

Bengals pull off stunning trade for Bijan Robinson in new PFF mock draft

The Bengals move up for Bijan Robinson in a mock draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals don’t figure to pull off a big trade up during the 2023 NFL draft.

Cincinnati doesn’t historically do that and in what is considered to be a deep class, coughing up draft assets to make it happen seems unlikely.

And yet, it’s hard to hate the trade-up idea presented in the newest seven-round mock draft from Pro Football Focus.

There, the Bengals leapfrog two teams in order to select Texas running back Bijan Robinson:

“The Bengals send Pick Nos. 28 and 163 to the Giants to move past the Cowboys and Bills and draft Robinson. This would allow Cincinnati to cut Joe Mixon and build out one of the NFL’s most exciting offenses for the 2023 season.”

Frankly, getting a guy who is considered to be one of the best running back prospects to enter the draft over the last 10 years is hard to complain about. Robinson is an instant starter who earned a 95.3 PFF grade last year.

This is the sort of luxury move the Bengals could always attempt to make after addressing needs so well in free agency. It would undoubtedly upgrade the offense.

While it’s probably not the most realistic, one does have to wonder what the front office might be thinking if Robinson makes it to the 25th pick or so.

Touchdown Wire has Vikings going cornerback in latest mock draft

Touchdown Wire released their latest mock draft which had the Minnesota Vikings going cornerback at 23rd overall.

The Minnesota Vikings still have plenty of needs to fill heading into the NFL Draft on Thursday night. While wide receiver is a top priority, cornerback is also right up there.

On Tuesday, Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire released his latest mock draft, in which he had the Vikings selecting Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks.

Banks is an athletic and physical cornerback who fits the play style of new defensive coordinator Brian Flores. He possesses good speed and has the size and length needed for the cornerback position. One of Banks’ strongest traits is his fluidity at the position. He’s smooth in his coverage and has the ability to flip his hips to mirror receivers.

The Vikings addressed cornerback in free agency by signing Byron Murphy Jr., and with this pick they add depth with high-upside.

The Bengals do something wild in NFL’s ‘dress rehearsal’ mock draft

The Bengals make a random pick in the NFL’s dress rehearsal.

One of the most enjoyable mock drafts annually is the fake one the NFL puts out, dubbed the “dress rehearsal” mock draft.

The rehearsal is a scripted event involving all 32 teams each year to make sure that things are running smoothly before the live event itself on Thursday.

Said event uses real draft prospects, but they are mostly late-round prospects and priority undrafted free agents, hence the No. 1 overall pick being an offensive lineman from Toledo.

At No. 29 in the dress rehearsal (it will be 28 on draft day due to Miami forfeiting a pick, but all teams are included in the rehearsal), the Cincinnati Bengals selected Minnesota defensive back Jordan Howden.

Howden is a late-round prospect projected as safety depth and a possible impact player on special teams, so keep him in mind — it would be pretty funny if the dress rehearsal accurately predicted one of the picks the Bengals make very late in the process.

Dianna Russini of ESPN provided the whole fake draft:

4-Down Territory: The biggest questions for the 2023 NFL draft

In this week’s “4-Down Territory,” Kyle Madson and Doug Farrar get into the four most important questions as we near the 2023 NFL draft.

In this week’s “4-Down Territory,” Kyle Madson of Niners Wire and Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire get into the four most important questions as we near the 2023 NFL draft.

  1. Do the Houston Texans HAVE to take a quarterback with the second overall pick?
  2. Is Texas running back Bijan Robinson worthy of a top-five pick, regardless of positional value?
  3. Beyond Aaron Rodgers, how many current NFL quarterbacks will be taken before (or during) the draft?
  4. Who are our underrated prospects who will make big impacts on their NFL teams, regardless of their Day 2 or Day 3 status?

You can watch this week’s episode of “4-Down Territory” right here:

2023 NFL mock draft: Matt Anderson’s final mock draft

With just two days until the start of the NFL Draft, @MattAnderson_8 gives his best prediction as to what will happen in round one.

At Vikings Wire, we have been compiling multiple mock drafts throughout the offseason to explore various scenarios for how the NFL Draft may unfold. However, as the NFL draft approaches in just a few days, it is now time for us to make our actual predictions.

Surprises typically always happen during the draft. Either a player drops unexpectedly or a team reaches early for a prospect.

Here is my prediction for what happens on draft night.

2023 NFL Mock Draft: First-round projections after the Aaron Rodgers trade

How might the first round of the 2023 NFL draft play out after the Aaron Rodgers trade? Let’s mock it through!

Well, now we know. After nearly two decades with the same team, the Green Bay Packers offloaded their quarterback to the New York Jets, and moved on to their recent first-round draft pick before his rookie contract expired.

But enough about Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Let’s talk about Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love! On Monday, the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets for a swap of the 13th and 15th picks in the 2023 draft in Green Bay’s favor, as well as the Jets’ 43rd pick and 207th pick in this draft, as well as a conditional second-round pick in 20234 that turns into a first-round pick if Rodgers plays at least 65% of the Jets’ snaps in 2023. The Jets also get Green Bay’s 170th pick in this draft.

It’s a big haul for the Packers, and now, for the first time since 1991, they get to deal with the same level of quarterback uncertainty that most other NFL teams have had to deal with most of the time.

We don’t really know which version of Rodgers the Jets are getting — he turns 40 on December 2, and his 2022 season was far from his best. But the trade has happened, and here’s how the first round of the 2023 draft might play out as a result.

Bengals take big gamble on first-round TE in new mock draft

The Bengals risk it all and leave other notable players on the board in a new mock draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals risk it all in a new mock draft, going away from arguably better prospects on the board for a high-upside gamble at tight end.

The mock, courtesy of the final effort from Pro Football Talk’s Peter King this mock draft season, has the Bengals skipping on a prospect like Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy to take Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave:

Odd in such a great class for tight ends that a guy with 1.4 catches per game in his college career, with just 633 yards receiving and two receiving touchdowns in four seasons, would be a first-round candidate. Musgrave excelled at the Senior Bowl and has been a popular pre-draft riser.

It’s a good example of how unpredictable the draft really is — our new seven-round mock draft, trade-up edition, featured the Bengals jumping up the order to select Branch.

In King’s mock, Musgrave is only the third tight end off the board, which is what makes it such a gamble. This is generally agreed upon as the best tight end draft class in modern times, so selecting a prospect there with limited production all in the hopes of upside is a huge risk.

That’s not to say this exact scenario won’t happen because…who knows? But it’s hard to imagine the Bengals see very productive pass-rushers falling in the first round and instead opt to take one of the deeper positions in the draft.
