UPDATE: The latest on Alabama recruiting targets and upcoming decision dates

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at the latest on Alabama recruiting targets as well as upcoming commitment dates over the next few weeks.

Alabama has been fairly quiet since landing commitments from the monstrous offensive linemen in Miles McVay and Raymond Pulido. Defensive lineman Edric Hill also committed to the Crimson Tide several weeks ago. Now, the Crimson Tide is working on landing commitments from several of the nation’s best prospects.

In all likelihood, Alabama will finish with the No. 1 ranked recruiting class barring something unexpected. The coaching staff has been able to land at least one recruit for each position. They aren’t done though as numerous recruits still have Alabama in the mix.

Some of the recruits that have been closely linked to the Crimson Tide are Cormani McClain, Jalen Hale, and Keon Keeley. All three of those recruits can be seen as priority targets. The expectation is that each will make a trip to Tuscaloosa at some point during the season. Hale visited for the Utah State game. Keeley is expected to take an official visit to Alabama on October 8. McClain will also be in town the second weekend in October.

Today, Roll Tide Wire will take a look at some of Alabama’s targets and several commitment dates to keep a close eye on.

UPDATE: The latest on Alabama recruiting targets and potential visitors

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at the latest on Alabama recruiting targets as well as upcoming visitors.

Alabama has already gotten off to a hot start in 2022. As of right now, there are 21 hard commits for the 2023 class. However, the coaching staff does not appear to be done as the staff is prioritizing numerous uncommitted prospects like Qua Russaw, James Smith and Keon Keeley to name a few.

With the way things are currently trending with several uncommitted prospects, there’s a good chance the Crimson Tide could very well end up with the top recruiting class in the country.

Roll Tide Wire will take a look at what fans can expect to see in the coming weeks.

Two schools are standing out to four-star WR Jalen Hale

Alabama and Texas are the current favorites for the Longview product.

Four-star wide receiver Jalen Hale is one of Texas’ top remaining targets in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

247Sports composite rankings list Hale as the No. 11 wide receiver in the country and the No. 11 overall prospect in the state of Texas. He has picked up 35 offers and named a top three of Alabama, Georgia and Texas back on July 8.

Chad Simmions of On3 Sports’ reports the recruitment of Hale is a “two-team race.” Alabama and Texas are the current favorites for the Longview product.

Hale is set to make the trip to Austin on Sept. 10 for the highly anticipated matchup between the Crimson Tide and Longhorns. He will also check out Alabama on an official visit before his Sept. 21 commitment date.

Texas has done a great job recruiting the wide receiver position in the 2023 cycle. The Longhorns have five-star Johntay Cook and four-stars Ryan Niblett and Jonah Wilson committed to the program. Adding Hale to the fold would make up one of the most talented wide receiver classes in Texas history.

Four-star 2023 DL Terrance Green announces top five schools

The four-star Cypress native is set to announce his commitment on Aug. 1.

2023 defensive lineman Terrance Green is nearing his college decision.

The four-star Cypress native is set to announce his commitment on Aug. 1. He will pick between his top five schools of Florida, Michigan State, Miami, Oregon and Texas.

Green is listed as the No. 44 defensive lineman in the nation and just outside the state of Texas’ top 50 prospects according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

At 6-foot-5, 265-pounds, Green was a problem for opposing offenses at Cypress Woods High School his junior season. He racked up 40 total tackles including 11.5 for loss and six sacks. Green also competes in high school track and field events during the offseason.

Three crystal balls are currently entered for Green in favor of the Oregon Ducks. He took an official visit Eugene in June and came away impressed.

Four-star EGDE Colton Vasek announces top five schools

Texas makes the top five for the Austin Westlake product.

Four-star EDGE Colton Vasek has narrowed down his recruitment to five schools.

Texas, Oregon, Clemson, Oklahoma and Texas Tech made the final cut for the Westlake Chaparral. Vasek is set for June official visits to Clemson, Oklahoma and Oregon.

The 6-foot-6 pass rusher is rated as the No. 49 player in the state of Texas and a top 300 player overall for the 2023 class. He was named Defensive MVP in Austin Westlake’s state championship victory over Denton Ryan.

Texas has a few factors going in their favor for this recruitment. The Longhorns signed Vasek’s teammate Ethan Burke in the 2022 cycle. His father, Brian Vasek, played defensive end at Texas from 1991-95. Playing for Texas would mean staying close to home for the Austin native.

The pass rush is a major need for Texas and Vasek could help fill that void for the Horns.

Elite RB Cedric Baxter Jr. sets official visit with Texas

Baxter is one of Texas’ top priorities for the 2023 cycle.

Texas will have some elite talents on campus this summer as official visit announcements continue to roll in for the Longhorns.

Four-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. is the next high profile recruit to lock in an official visit date. The Orlando product will be in Austin from June 10-12.

247Sports ranks Baxter as the No. 2 running back in the country and the No. 7 overall prospect in the state of Florida. He turned in an all-state junior campaign where he rushed for 1,718 yards and 26 touchdowns on an 8.3 yards per carry clip.

Recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins of 247Sports gave high praise for Baxter in his scouting report, even comparing him to former Alabama running back Brian Robinson.

A potential workhorse or feature back. The first one off the bus with his 6-foot-1, 215-pound frame. Could eventually push 230 pounds or more once in a college strength program. Played primarily safety and a little wide receiver before settling in as the starting running back at one of Orlando’s top high school programs. Produced right away as a junior averaging just over 8.5 yards per carry while facing stiff competition week in and week out. Owns a bit of an upright running style, but makes it work as he quickly picks a lane and attacks it with a full head of steam. Does a nice job of navigating his way through traffic and will use swift little cuts to get around defenders. More than capable of breaking multiple arms tackles and seems to always be falling forward.

Baxter named Texas in his top five schools along with Florida, Miami, Texas A&M and Arkansas.

Texas offers 2023 Mater Dei tight end Spencer Shannon

Texas offers Mater Dei’s tight end Spencer Shannon.

Steve Sarkisian and tight ends coach/special teams coordinator Jeff Banks extended an offer to 2023 tight end Spencer Shannon this week.

Shannon was on campus over the weekend for the Orange-White spring game. He spoke about his trip and what the Texas offer meant to him with 247Sports Greg Biggins.

That was really exciting for me. I’ve been talking with coach Banks a lot and he told me he wanted to offer me earlier but when he heard I was coming to visit, he thought it would be better to offer in person and it definitely made it special.

The three-star prospect from Mater Dei is quickly rising up the recruiting ranks. Shannon has picked up recent offers from the likes of Texas, UCLA, Notre Dame and Stanford.

Shannon’s 6-foot-7, 240-pound frame and athleticism provide him a high ceiling at the collegiate level. Texas likes to utilize the tight end position in their offense and Sark sees Shannon as an ideal fit for his scheme.

The Marlin product put up monster numbers on both sides of the ball during his junior season.  He racked up over 1500 total yards and 18 touchdowns on offense along with making 125 tackles and forcing four turnovers as a linebacker.
