Texas quarterback target Arch Manning named five-star prospect by Rivals

Rivals released their five-star ratings for the 2023 class, with Arch Manning coming in at No. 3 overall.

Steve Sarkisian is widely viewed as one of the greatest coaches in the country when it comes to quarterbacks. His lineage of NFL prospects dating back to his time as an assistant at USC is impressive. Tua Tagovailoa, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, and Mac Jones, a presumed first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, were the two latest names placed on Sarkisian’s resume.

Now that he is the head coach at Texas, quarterbacks across the country have been intrigued by playing for Sarkisian. Five-star Maalik Murphy was the first example with his commitment in February. Another big name could be coming from the 2023 class in Arch Manning. Texas is squarely in the running for the New Orleans native.

Rivals released their initial five-star ratings for the 2023 class, with Manning coming in at No. 3 overall. Defensive end Lebbeus Overton and quarterback Malachi Nelson were the only two players rated ahead.

In an interview with 247Sports, Manning said his relationship with Coach Sarkisian goes back to when he was in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide will be a force in his recruitment, as long as Clemson, LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Landing the five-star quarterback would bring a ton of momentum into the 2023 recruiting class, much like Quinn Ewers did when he originally committed. Texas already has a pledge from Rueben Owens, the No. 26 player according to 247Sports.

Coming out of Dallas, the four-star is on the cusp of being a top 50 prospect in the 2023 class. Only eight players in the state of Texas have been ranked by 247Sports, with Demery being ranked at No. 5.

He is listed as an athlete but mainly played safety during his sophomore season. Demery comes out of Parish Episcopal High School and finished the year with five passes defended. On the offensive end, he played wide receiver and had nine receptions for 121 yards.
