Watch: Jags’ new free-agent signings introduce themselves in latest episode of ‘The Hunt’

The Jags handed out a lot of money in free-agency and their top additions were introduced in the latest episode of “The Hunt.”

Doug Pederson has been a busy man since becoming the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach. After his intro, he went right to work and put his staff together, and then it was on to scouting the free-agent class and getting ready for the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.

In the latest episode of the Jags’ web series entitled “The Hunt,” the organization provided a preview of what Pederson’s Combine experience was like after taking a year off from football, as well as general manager Trent Baalke’s Combine experience. There also was a cameo appearance from Jags owner Shad Khan, too, who joined the front office in Indianapolis.

During the second segment of the show, fans were introduced to some of the top free-agent signings the Jags brought in. The players featured included receiver Christian Kirk, tight end Evan Engram, guard Brandon Scherff, defensive lineman Foley Fatukasi, and linebacker Foyesade Oluokun.

Lastly, Episode 2 featured veterans Josh Allen and Dawuane Smoot and their workout plans before the offseason workout program. Both specifically worked on their flexibility, which is a huge part of a pass-rusher’s game.

5 takeaways from Commanders’ top 30 visits ahead of 2022 NFL draft

We examine Washington’s top-30 visits ahead of the 2022 NFL draft and offer these five takeaways.

The pre-draft process ahead of the NFL draft features plenty of smoke and mirrors. Teams meet with draft prospects at the Senior Bowl, NFL combine and can invite up to 30 players to the team’s facility ahead of the draft.

However, when the draft process is over, we often look back and see some of these visits mean nothing. Of course, that doesn’t mean a team wasn’t interested, but perhaps some of that interest was due to hiding their intentions from the other 31 NFL teams.

The Senior Bowl and the combine are in the rearview mirror. We are just over two weeks away from the 2022 NFL draft and top-30 visits are underway.

We’ve covered some of the players the Washington Commanders are bringing in for top-30 visits. Ohio State wide receiver Chris Olave and Alabama wide receiver John Metchie are among Washington’s pre-draft visits.

What does that mean?

Here are five takeaways from the Commanders’ current list of top-30 visits.

Where is Booth projected in these post-combine mock drafts?

New mock drafts are circulating online following the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, which took place in Indianapolis this past week.

Although Andrew Booth Jr. suffered a quad injury while training for the 40-yard dash and did not participate in on-field drills at the combine, the former Clemson cornerback is still projected as a first-round pick in the following post-combine mock drafts.

The Draft Network has Booth going to the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 15 overall pick.

“The Eagles getting a chance to add a second impact player on the outside opposite of Darius Slay is too good to ignore at this point,” The Draft Network’s Kyle Crabbs wrote. “TDN is seemingly a bit higher on Booth Jr. than the league, but when you watch his tape, he’s clearly a high-impact prospect who should be able to step into a starting role quickly. Playing (and learning) opposite Slay? That’s a recipe for success.”

Pro Football Network, meanwhile, projects Booth to be picked by the Buffalo Bills with the 25th overall selection in the first round.

“Andrew Booth Jr. didn’t test at the 2022 NFL Combine, opting to instead wait for his pro day,” Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings wrote. “It’s a sensible move, and it made even more sensible by the fact that Booth tweaked his hamstring while training for the event in Indianapolis. Even so, without numbers to grapple to, Booth may slip in the eyes of scouts, at least in the immediate timeline. It already seems like the media is higher on him than the NFL.

“Even so, I think Booth is a first-round talent. And if he falls to a certain point, a team like Buffalo should absolutely pull the trigger. Booth has one of the best length/athleticism combinations in the early rounds, and he compounds it with strong run support and acrobatic playmaking ability at the catch point. Opposite Tre’Davious White, Booth can help the Bills ensure that “13 seconds” never happens again.”

CBS Sports sees Booth coming off the board three picks later at No. 28 overall to the Green Bay Packers.

“Andrew Booth had a strong ’21 season for Clemson and he’s only going to get better with experience,” CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson wrote. “In Green Bay, Jaire Alexander is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and while Eric Stokes had a strong rookie campaign, you can never have enough good young cornerbacks.”

Booth tallied 39 tackles (3.0 for loss), five pass breakups and a team-high three interceptions in 11 games (all starts) as a junior last season. He was a finalist for the Blanchard-Rodgers Trophy, presented to the top college player either in or from the state of South Carolina.

The former five-star prospect from Dacula, Ga., recorded 75 tackles (5.5 for loss), 10 pass breakups, five interceptions, a sack and a fumble recovery (which he returned 21 yards for a touchdown) in 981 defensive snaps over 35 career games (15 starts) from 2019-21.

The 2022 NFL Draft is scheduled to be held in Las Vegas from April 28-30.

ESPN draft analyst says this admission from Booth ‘was really big for him’

This ESPN NFL Draft analyst says he’s the leader of the Andrew Booth fan club.

Jordan Reid said during an interview with Eric Mac Lain and Kelly Gramlich on the Gramlich and Mac Lain podcast that he loves Booth and hopes to see the former Clemson cornerback work out at the Tigers’ Pro Day on March 17 after he was unable to participate in on-field drills at the NFL Combine on Sunday due to a quad injury.

“I’m a huge Andrew Booth fan. I’m probably the leader of the Andrew Booth train,” Reid said. “I’m a big fan of him, and I want to go down to Clemson to actually see him at the Pro Day, so hopefully he’s able to perform. I had a really good talk with him during his podium session at the combine, and he said he strained his quad. He was like warming up for 40s (40-yard dash) during the Monday leading up to the event, so hopefully he’s able to get healthy and perform.”

When he watches and evaluates Booth, a few traits possessed by the 2021 first-team All-ACC selection stick out to Reid.

“His body control, his athleticism and just his competitive drive are the three things that really stand out about him,” Reid said. “And I told him, you give up a 10-yard reception, and it’s like you gave up the game-winning touchdown. But he’s really hard on himself and he just hates giving up receptions.”

At the combine, Reid spoke with Booth about Clemson’s game at NC State last season, when Booth allowed a couple of touchdowns in the Tigers’ 27-21, double-overtime loss to the Wolfpack on Sept. 25.

According to Reid, Booth made the admission that he underestimated NC State going into the game and learned a valuable lesson from the loss.

“I wanted to make sure to ask him about that NC State game,” Reid said. “I think that was one of the worst games of his career. And he went up against a really talented receiver in Emeka Emezie, who I think is going to be a steal for somebody in the late rounds. But he was just like, he learned that he doesn’t need to underestimate anybody going into any game. He admitted that he kind of took NC State lightly, and they ended up beating Clemson in that game. So, just hearing him say that and admit that, I thought was really big for him.”

Booth is widely expected to be taken early in the 2022 NFL Draft (April 28-30 in Las Vegas), with mock drafts projecting him to go as high as No. 8 overall or as low as early in the second round.

Reid sees the New England Patriots (No. 21 overall pick in first round) and Buffalo Bills (No. 25 overall pick in first round) as a couple of potential landing spots for Booth.

“He shouldn’t get past the Patriots at 21, honestly,” Reid said. “I think he would be a great fit there. But obviously him not performing at the combine, there’s going to be some questions out there. But I think 25 to the Bills would be a great spot for him, too. Just these cornerback-needy teams, I think he’s a starter right away. I think if he was able to perform at the combine, he was going to put up some freaky numbers. But it’s just unfortunate that we were unable to see him.”

Full 7-round Bears mock draft 2.0: Post-Scouting Combine edition

Following the NFL Scouting Combine, here’s our second Bears mock draft of the season, where Chicago addresses some important needs.

The Chicago Bears have a vital offseason ahead of them where new general manager Ryan Poles has some big decisions to make with the roster.

During his introductory press conference, Poles stressed the importance of building through the NFL draft. But it’s going to be challenging, given the Bears have just five draft selections this year. Not to mention, they’re without a first-round pick after trading it to move up and acquire Justin Fields last year.

With a plethora of needs ranging from wide receiver to offensive line to defensive back, Ryan Poles has plenty of work to do with this roster.

Following the NFL Scouting Combine, here’s our updated seven-round Bears mock draft of the season:

Former Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. did not participate in on-field drills with defensive backs at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Sunday due to a quad injury he suffered recently while training for the 40-yard dash.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport gave an injury update on Booth during the network’s coverage of the combine Sunday.

“He actually pulled a quad muscle over the last couple of weeks,” Rapoport said. “Nothing serious. I’m not sure how much he’s going to end up doing on his Pro Day. But long-term, no issues at all for Booth.”

Booth told reporters at the combine that he “hopes” to do everything at Clemson’s Pro Day on March 17.

The 2021 first-team All-ACC selection tallied 39 tackles (3.0 for loss), five pass breakups and a team-high three interceptions in 11 games (all starts) as a junior last season.

A former Clemson cornerback ran the 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Sunday, then pulled out of other defensive back drills due to an injury.

Mario Goodrich recorded an official time of 4.52 seconds in the 40-yard dash, but sat out of the DB drills after feeling his ribs tighten up following the run, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

“He’s still battling bruised and broken ribs suffered during the Senior Bowl,” Rapoport reported on Twitter. “He’ll run again and do DB drills at 100% at his Pro Day.”

Clemson’s Pro Day is set for Thursday, March 17.

Goodrich (6-0, 176) measured in with 30 5/8-inch arms and 9 1/8-inch hands at the NFL Combine.

A former four-star prospect from Kansas City, Goodrich concluded his four-year Clemson career spanning 2018-21 credited with 84 tackles (0.5 for loss), 15 pass breakups, five interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 47 games (16 starts).

Goodrich earned first-team All-ACC honors and was named a third-team All-American by PFF as a senior in 2021, when he tallied 48 tackles, nine pass breakups, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 12 games (all starts). He earned Cheez-It Bowl Most Valuable Player honors after picking off a batted ball and returning it 18 yards for a touchdown as well as forcing a fumble on Iowa State’s final offensive play to seal a game-winning turnover on downs.

7 combine standouts who should be on Chiefs’ radar

A look at seven standouts from the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine who should be on the #Chiefs’ radar.

Just like that, the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine has come and gone.

Over 300 draft prospects interviewed and worked out in front of all 32 teams, inching ever closer to their dreams of playing in the NFL. Several of those draft-eligible athletes improved their draft stock with impressive performances in the various events and on-field drills.

Every year the Kansas City Chiefs tend to come away with some standout performers from the combine. Who could be among those players this year? Let’s take a quick look at a few players at key positions who should be blinking brightly on the Chiefs’ radar after the combine.

Oklahoma Sooners 2022 NFL Combine testing results

How did the Oklahoma Sooners perform at the NFL combine? Here are the results.

11 Oklahoma Sooners participated in the 2022 NFL Combine over the weekend. In addition to the testing that occurred, the annual scouting event in Indianapolis provided the first opportunity for players to meet with teams ahead of the NFL draft in late April.

Players didn’t participate in every event as most will wait for Oklahoma’s Pro Day on March 9th to do more on-field work or to test on the bench press.

The only player to take part in each of the combine’s on-field tests was Jeremiah Hall. Hall’s being viewed as a fullback at the next level and has a chance to hear his name called in the 2022 NFL draft because of his pass-catching prowess.

Kicker Gabe Brkic didn’t participate in any on-field testing, but a kicker doesn’t need to run fast or bench 225 a bunch of times to be a good kicker.

As Oklahoma gets set to host its pro day on Wednesday, here’s where 11 of the 12 NFL draft prospects stand.
