Fantasy football: Where to draft Atlanta Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson

Analyzing Atlanta Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

The Atlanta Falcons should have an interesting season as Cordarrelle Patterson grows into his new role as a running back. Patterson had a career-high in rushing and receiving yards last season.

Not only did Patterson join the Falcons last year, but he was also ushered into the leading rusher position after being a receiver for all 8 of his previous seasons in the NFL.

Below, we look at Cordarrelle Patterson‘s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

The Falcons may have a fun team to watch this season, but there are few expectations. TE Kyle Pitts and Patterson will be the key playmakers for Atlanta.

Cordarrelle Patterson’s ADP: 82.03

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Patterson has an ADP of 82.03 in redraft leagues, which puts him in the range of the late 7th round, depending on the size of the league. His ADP is lower than his teammate Pitts (36.92), though.

Among running backs, Patterson’s ADP puts him 31st at the position, behind the likes of Dameon Pierce (Houston Texans) and Chase Edmonds (Miami Dolphins) and ahead of Damien Harris (New England Patriots) and Miles Sanders (Philadelphia Eagles).

Where should you draft Patterson?

The problem with drafting Patterson isn’t his potential production but rather his opportunity. Patterson’s fantasy value could get crushed if Atlanta struggles heavily to start the season.

While it won’t be RB Damien Williams that takes over, rookie RB Tyler Allgeier could contribute and should be on your radar if you’re considering Patterson.

Patterson should still be the starter and get the bulk of the work, and as we saw last season. Even on a poor-playing roster, he can produce given his dual-threat nature.

Patterson had 618 rushing yards and topped it off with 548 receiving yards.

That combination will be lethal in PPR leagues where he can easily be seen as a solid 6th-round pick. In standard leagues, I would be wary of taking him as high as his ADP suggests.

There’s no telling if Patterson remains a high-volume player. Draft Patterson in the 7th round and do not let him fall out of the 8th in 12-team leagues. When contributing, he could be a key component for any fantasy team.

Fantasy football: Where to draft Tennessee Titans WR Robert Woods

Analyzing Tennessee Titans WR Robert Woods’ 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

Wide receiver Robert Woods is back in action after his recovery from a torn ACL, but with his return comes the start of a new chapter in his NFL career.

He will join the Tennessee Titans after a 5-season stint with the Los Angeles Rams. Woods spent 4 seasons with the Buffalo Bills prior to joining the Super Bowl-winning Rams.

Below, we look at Robert Woods‘ 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Woods only got 9 games in during the 2021 season before his injury occurred. Hopefully, the 2022 season holds redemption for what could be the Titans’ best receiver.

Robert Woods’ ADP: 104.02

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Woods has an ADP of 104.02 in redraft leagues, which puts him in the late 9th round of the draft. His ADP is the highest of all teammates on the Tennessee Titans outside of RB Derrick Henry (5.64).

Among wide receivers, Woods’ ADP puts him 42nd at the position, behind the likes of Drake London (Atlanta Falcons) and DeVonta Smith (Philadelphia Eagles) and slightly ahead of Chase Claypool (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Chris Olave (New Orleans Saints).

Robert Woods’ 2021 stats

Games: 9

Where should you draft Woods?

Woods’ fantasy value has taken a beating the last few seasons. With 2 straight 1,000-yard seasons in which he saw at least 130 targets, Woods has struggled these last few years.

Part of that can be attributed to injury, but with Woods now 30, there’s no telling if that injury history will continue. Woods is also now in a run-heavy offense that just drafted an exciting receiver in Treylon Burks.

With WR Julio Jones and A.J. Brown both gone, Burks and Woods are expected to fill that void. Prior to injuries setting in, Brown did have success in the Ryan Tannehill-led offense.

I expect Woods to have similar success, and he should have a relatively low floor as the WR1 in Tennessee. His ADP is relatively solid here, and I would even drop him down a tier under high-risk prospects like Olave.

Feel free to take a flier on him in the late 9th round, especially given his upside in PPR as a main target for Tannehill.

Fantasy football: Where to draft Jacksonville Jaguars WR Christian Kirk

Analyzing Jacksonville Jaguars WR Christian Kirk’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

Wide receiver Christian Kirk joins the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2022 season after 4 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

Sources say that Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence reports that he and Kirk “get along really well” and that Kirk’s “football IQ sense” is really quarterback friendly.

Below, we look at Christian Kirk‘s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

This relationship could produce some high-level connections between the QB and WR, especially with coach Doug Pederson now in Jacksonville hoping to salvage something from the short-lived Urban Meyer era.

Christian Kirk’s ADP: 96.38

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Kirk has an ADP of 96.38 in redraft leagues, which puts him in the range of the early 8th round. His ADP is lower than his teammate RB Travis Etienne (42.14).

Kirk’s ADP puts him 38th at the wide receiver position, behind Tyler Lockett (Seattle Seahawks) at 95.76 and Brandon Aiyuk (San Francisco 49ers) at 96.03 and slightly ahead of Elijah Moore (New York Jets) at 97.56 and Drake London (Atlanta Falcons) at 100.99.

Christian Kirk’s 2021 stats:

Games: 17

Receiving yards: 982

Receiving touchdowns: 5

Where should you draft Kirk?

Kirk’s fantasy value should get a boost this year now that he’s in Jacksonville and projected to be Lawrence’s No. 1 target.

That’s the expectation when you sign a four-year, $72 million deal, after all. Kirk will really only face competition from Marvin Jones Jr., but with Jones Jr. growing older, Kirk should be the face of this receiving corps.

The former 2nd-round pick is a speedster at just 5-foot-11. He’s yet to record a 1,000-yard season but has had over 100 targets in 2 of his last 3 seasons, but has not been a top target in any offense yet.

Kirk has also played in 10 or more games in each of his 4 seasons and didn’t miss a single contest last year. He’s more of a sporadic player with his value heavily reliant on the Pederson-Lawrence connection.

It feels like Jacksonville should be much improved this season, so I would trust Kirk over a player like Lockett. Draft Kirk in the late 7th round with ease. His PPR value is similar, so that’s around the spot to take him.

Kirk should be good for 80-100 catches and over 900 yards this season.

Fantasy football: Where to draft Green Bay Packers TE Robert Tonyan

Analyzing Green Bay Packers TE Robert Tonyan’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

As the Green Bay Packers have to figure out how to make up for the loss of production from not only WR Davante Adams, but WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling and WR Equanimeous St. Brown, it’s a new world in Green Bay. Granted, those last two are not massive losses, but they were wide receivers in a relatively small room. Now QB Aaron Rodgers has far fewer familiar time-tested targets to go to. One he still has is tight end Robert Tonyan.

Below, we look at Robert Tonyan‘s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

After bursting on the fantasy scene for tight end-needy fantasy owners when he caught 52 passes for 586 yards and a backbreaking 11 touchdowns in 2020, Tonyan disappeared as fast as he got on everyone’s radar with an injury-shortened 2021. He’s a red zone target for Rodgers that needs to stay on the field to rekindle the immediate confidence required to pull the trigger on a high-velocity pass in a tight window to close a drive.

Robert Tonyan’s ADP: 162.57

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Coming off a non-productive season after being overvalued in 2021, the pendulum has swung very hard in the other direction for Big Shot Bob. His 23rd positional ranking lends itself to not being drafted at all and he isn’t surrounded by a who’s who in the ADP rankings.

Tonyan finds himself behind Tyler Higbee (Los Angeles Rams) at an ADP of 154.98 and Hayden Hurst (Cincinnati Bengals) at 159.56 and ahead of Gerald Everett (Los Angeles Chargers) at 164.51 and Trey McBride (Arizona Cardinals) at 172.94.

Where should you draft Tonyan?

What does Tonyan have in common with the other guys on the list in front of him and behind him? They all have quarterbacks who are prolific and do a lot of damage. What separates him is that none of the other tight ends on the wraparound list have quarterbacks who have lost nearly as many familiar weapons as Rodgers.

Tonyan is never going to be a 1,000-yard receiver. His value is at the 5-yard line with a hard cut on an in-route. I’m putting money that if Tonyan stays healthy, 8 touchdowns is an anticipated number. If that’s good by you for the backup to Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce, I say saddle up!

Fantasy football: Where to draft Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff

Analyzing Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

The footnote on the career of Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff was whether or not he got a ring from the Rams for not being their quarterback the year they won the Super Bowl. Goff is more of a game manager than a game-changer and he is a below-average quarterback by just about any measure when he doesn’t have a lot of weapons at his disposal.

Below, we look at Jared Goff’s‘ 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Game manager isn’t an insult — in his last four years with the Rams his record as a starter was 42-20. He didn’t make the huge mistake that forced him to take chances. The move to Detroit changed that.

What made Matthew Stafford a favorite among fantasy owners was that the Lions defense was so heinous the team would routinely be double digits down at halftime and had to come out slinging against prevent defenses. The Lions are still a brutal franchise, but they aren’t Houston Texans/Jacksonville Jaguars/New York Jets brutal and Goff isn’t piling up the garbage points Stafford feasted on.

Jared Goff’s ADP: 152.32

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

As the 24th-ranked quarterback by ADP, you would have to be in a 12-player league and already have Josh Allen tier starter for this to make sense or be in a 2QB league. His value, as small as it is, comes in those rare balloon leagues of 16, 18 or 20 player where it’s fantasy football microbiology — 2 or 3 key injuries kill your team for the season.

He currently heads up a small run in the 16th round, behind Baker Mayfield (Carolina Panthers) at 146.26 and ahead of Daniel Jones (New York Giants) at 153.35, Carson Wentz (Washington Commanders) at 154.26 and Davis Mills (Houston Texans) at 159.41.

Where should you draft Goff?

The short answer, sadly, is you don’t.

“Sunshine” fell into a perfect landing spot with the Rams in 2016. After losing all 7 of his starts as a rookie, he learned how to move the chains, string together long drives and not throw the “stupid” passes.

His success wasn’t because of his acumen as a passer. It was based on good receivers, Todd Gurley in the run game and a defense led by DT Aaron Donald that got really good in a hurry when the organization started spending lavishly for a 1- or 2-year window to win a title before the salary cap bit them hard.

He is being asked to carry the offense in Detroit. RB D’Andre Swift will be the focal point, but Goff will have to press the issue more. The fact he had just 42 TD passes in his final two seasons with the Rams (31 games) speaks to why the organization identified the weakness and got rid of it. Pass on Goff.

Fantasy Football: 5 breakout running backs for 2022 season

These running backs could become fantasy football stars this season.

Following roster cuts and waiver claims, NFL backfields have been sorted out and fantasy football managers are now ready to draft ahead of the season opener next week.

When drafting your team, keep an eye on these five running backs — they all have potential for big breakout seasons in 2022.

Fantasy football: Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback breakdown

How long will it take until this situation is turned on its head?

When the Pittsburgh Steelers began their preseason in late July, their quarterback battle was presented as an open competition to replace the retired Ben Roethlisberger between Mitchell Trubisky, Kenny Pickett, and Mason Rudolph, who was the lone holdover in the group. With camp and the preseason now in the books, it’s time to take a look back at how all three performed and where the team looks to be headed for 2022.

Fantasy football: Where to draft Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks

Analyzing Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks’ 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

There aren’t many Houston Texans that end up on draft day fantasy football rosters because it is almost as though the organization is in full-on tank mode like Indianapolis did to land QB Andrew Luck. However, one of the noteworthy exceptions is wide receiver Brandin Cooks — an 8-year pro who has remained unheralded because he has played with too many teams to be regarded as a franchise guy.

Below, we look at Brandin Cooks‘ 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

The truth about Cooks is that, while teams have been very willing to move on from him, it hasn’t impacted his production. He has topped 1,000 receiving yards in 6 of the last 7 seasons with 4 different teams (the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams and Texans). He has hauled in more than 1,000 yards in both his seasons in Houston despite being the only show in town at wide receiver and he set a career-high in receptions in 2021 with 90.

Brandin Cooks’ ADP: 54.14

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

The 6th round in 10-player drafts has been dominated by wide receivers. Of the 10 picks between 50-59, wide receivers have accounted for 7 of them and Cooks finds himself right in the middle of that receiver run.

With his current ADP of 54.14, Cooks finds himself a little behind Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) at 52.26, DK Metcalf (Seattle Seahawks) at 53.38 and in front Adam Thielen (Minnesota Vikings) at 56.62 and Allen Robinson (Los Angeles Rams) at 57.29.

[the_huddle]

Brandin Cooks’ 2021 stats

Games: 16

Receptions | targets: 90 | 134

Where should you draft Cooks?

There are certain teams I avoid like the plague because I’m never convinced their offense is going to put up enough points to be viable when you have other options from more prolific offenses. Houston has a problem and is one of those teams.

Cooks’ stock took a big hit last season when it was obvious QB Deshaun Watson wasn’t going to play and the organization made no effort to sign a veteran to at least compete with rookie QB Davis Mills. Fast forward a year and nothing has changed. The only difference is fantasy owners are schooled up to the fact that “garbage time” points when your team is down by 20 points count the same as those for players on teams that win most of their games.

While I would definitely have Robinson ahead of Cooks and, because of his touchdown prowess in the Red Zone, likely have Thielen in front of him, it’s hard to let Cooks last too long. You can’t argue the production. If a player who spent his career on the same team and had six 1,000-yard seasons in his last 7 years, he would already be a lock for a Ring of Honor slot and start getting Hall of Fame buzz. Because he’s a career nomad, Cooks hasn’t received that level of respect — despite deserving it.

Fantasy football: Where to draft Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams

Analyzing Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams’ 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

When you are acknowledged as the No. 2 wide receiver on your own team, it’s hard for fantasy league owners to get overly excited about you. But Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams is a distinct departure from that stereotype. Teamed with WR Keenan Allen and QB Justin Herbert, all 3 of them have quickly turned into fantasy must-have players.

Below, we look at Mike Williams‘ 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Williams had never caught 50 passes in a season prior to last season. He shattered that with 76 catches for 1,146 yards and 9 touchdowns. What has made him special is he creates size mismatches downfield consistently, which helps explain his gaudy reception average (15.1 yards).

Mike Williams’ ADP: 46.64

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Despite being the 2nd ranked fantasy wide receiver on the Chargers, Williams is the 16th-ranked player at his position. That makes it possible for someone to have Allen as their WR1 and Williams as their WR2 just 2 rounds later.

Williams finds himself sandwiched in between a bunch of No. 1 receivers in his draft vicinity. He is a shade behind D.J. Moore (Carolina Panthers) at 43.77 and Diontae Johnson (Pittsburgh Steelers) at 45.67 and a little ahead of Terry McLaurin (Washington Commanders) at 49.93 and Courtland Sutton (Denver Broncos) at 50.17.

Mike Williams’ 2021 stats

Games: 16

Receptions | targets: 76 | 129

Where should you draft Williams?

It’s never easy to take the 2nd fiddle in a passing offense as your No. 2 overall fantasy receiver on your roster, but Williams checks an awful lot of boxes. His size (6-foot-4, 220 lbs) makes him a dangerous downfield matchup with any defensive back and his big-play ability is off the charts.

Herbert has found a way to keep both Allen and Williams satisfied with their roles and the fact Williams caught 27 more passes in 2021 than he had caught in any previous season of his career is a testament to how potent the Chargers can be.

While there are still a lot of teams’ top wide receivers still available for the taking, I wouldn’t begrudge anyone who took Williams ahead of either Johnson or Moore. His No. 16 ranking among wide receivers is spot on and, in my view, can only go higher instead of lower. When it comes time to choose between Williams and someone else, be sure to assess who that other player’s quarterback is. Is he better than Herbert? If not, take Williams.

Fantasy football: Where to draft Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence

Analyzing Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

When he was taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the unquestioned No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence was hailed as the best quarterback to come out of the college game since Andrew Luck a decade earlier.

As many Hall of Fame quarterbacks have done in their 1st NFL season, Lawrence took a beating. Constantly under pressure, in 17 games he put together one of the worst statistical seasons in the history of No. 1 overall picks.

Below, we look at Trevor Lawrence‘s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

As part of the Urban Meyer debacle last season, Lawrence was thrown to the wolves and posted a 3-14 record with just 12 TD passes and a league-high 17 interceptions.

With a new coaching staff and some more talent around him, Lawrence is still getting plenty of respect in fantasy circles as he looks to erase the memory of his rookie seasons while learning the lessons taught.

Trevor Lawrence’s ADP: 132.41

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Lawrence is at the front end of a QB run that lands him as the No. 18 fantasy quarterback. In 10-player leagues, that ranking would have him coming in as the plug-and-play backup for an elite fantasy quarterback in which investment was made.

The 14th round of drafts is where fantasy owners take QBs they hope to rarely play. After Lawrence comes Jameis Winston (New Orleans Saints) at 136.35, Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans) at 136.36, Justin Fields (Chicago Bears) at 137.15 and Mac Jones (New England Patriots) at 138.83.

Where should you draft Lawrence?

Based on last year’s numbers, you don’t. But if you saw Lawrence play at Clemson, you know what a talent he is and what he is capable of doing with a solid supporting cast. His coaching is better — much better. The Jaguars spent heavily in free agency to give him improved targets to throw to. And he plays in the weakest division in a stacked AFC.

About the only player behind Lawrence I would consider taking is Winston and that’s because he’s on a legitimate contender to make a deep postseason run if the chips fall right and more talented overall weapons.

That said, the Jaguars added wide receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones to bring a deep speed element to the offense and Lawrence’s college teammate Travis Etienne is coming back after missing his rookie season dueto injury.

For those who invested heavy in their QB1, Lawrence’s upside is enough to stash him and see how things progress.
