The annual Ohio State LiFESports spring game is in the books and it was one whale of an atmosphere.

We had some unbelievable catches by a dynamic receiving corps, got to peek behind the curtain at the three signal-callers vying for the starting quarterback spot vacated by Justin Fields. We even got to see some fans from the general public enjoying themselves for the first time in about a year and a half.

In the grand scheme of things, it was just a glorified scrimmage, but for this year’s team, it was more than that. With so many position battles up for grabs, performing at a high level in Ohio Stadium with fans and a television audience matters.

The Ohio State creative team put together a spring game rewind it shared to the Ohio State Football Twitter account, and we’re sharing it with you. It takes you through some of the best moments in the game and is only about 50 seconds.

It’s a short one, but it still gets you excited for what we might see this fall. I can’t wait to see what the best creative team in the business pushes out to us in 2021 with all that talent running around the field once again on the banks of the Olentangy.

Ohio State spring game winners and loser

The Ohio State Buckeyes have completed their spring game. Who came out on top and who needs more work?

The Ohio State football team has ended its spring game, and despite the weird format and there being no tackling, we were able to at least start to answer some questions. Some of that came from the much-anticipated quarterback battle — though it’s a long haul and not a one-moment-in-time proposition.

Team Brutus defeated team Buckeye to a tune of 28 to 13, but in the grand scheme of things, it means absolutely nothing. Ryan Day and the coaching staff rotated all three quarterbacks between the two teams and the team vs. team format only existed for the first half. So who looked good, and who could have made better on their opportunities?

Here are two winners and two losers from what we saw from the 2021 Ohio State LiFESports spring game on Saturday.

WATCH: Ryan Day, players discuss spring game

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and a couple of players met with the media after the 2021 spring game. Hear what they had to say.

It’s hard to judge the success of an intrasquad scrimmage like the annual LiFESports Ohio State Spring Game, but there were some very good things we saw Saturday. And it came from many of the different units head coach Ryan Day and his staff have been working to form and mold into a championship unit.

From the wide receivers to the defensive line, to some really good things from all three quarterbacks, we finally got a glimpse behind the curtain of some things that we can now look at and observe.

Day met with reporters after the game to field some questions and provide his thoughts on what he saw, and he did have some notable things to say. He was also joined by offensive lineman Thayer Munford and defensive end Zach Harrison.

Click on the below and head on over to our YouTube Channel to get Day’s thoughts on the play of the quarterbacks, what he liked from the day, and then hear what all three said about the stellar play of freshman defensive end Jack Sawyer. The video is courtesy of the Ohio State Dept. of Athletics.

Ohio State will now head into the post-spring workout mode and we’ll begin the countdown to the days when fall camp begins. Until then, we’ll have plenty more to say about what we saw Saturday, and what news we’ll hear from then until August.

WATCH: True freshman Kyle McCord connect with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for the score

Ohio State freshman Kyle McCord connects with Jaxon Smith-Njigba on a fade route in the corner of the endzone for one-handed grab.

In a game where there is no tackling, the offenses seem to be a little more comfortable. And in a quarterback competition trying to replace one of the best ever at Ohio State in Justin Fields, all three QBs have looked sharp.

So far C.J. Stroud has thrown two touchdowns and now true freshman Kyle McCord has joined the party. McCord led the offense down the field efficiently and then hit sophomore Jaxon Smith-Njigba with a nice little fade route in the back corner of the endzone.

Check out the excellent touch from McCord and outstanding concentration from Smith-Njigba for the score. Plays are being made all over the field from the pass-catches of Ohio State. I’d hate to be a defensive coordinator trying to gameplan how to slow down OSU’s passing game this fall.

Three and out Ohio State football spring game halftime review

The first half of the Ohio State football spring game is in the books and we have already found out a few things. Here are three.

The annual LifeSports Ohio State spring game has kicked off and although the format is different and no tackling will take place, the hype and anticipation is as high as ever. With one of the biggest quarterback battles in Ohio State history taking place, below is some of our notes from the first half, as things will now switch to a different format.

Some of the names and numbers might be different, but so far at least, it looks pretty clear that there is abundant talent and playmaking, most especially in the passing game.

Here is our halftime, three and out review of what we saw during the first half of a beautiful scene of Ohio State playing football in the ‘Shoe with some of the general public in attendance once again.

Watch: C.J. Stroud connects with freshman Marvin Harrison Jr. for a touchdown

Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud hits freshman Marvin Harrison Jr. for the first score of the 2021 spring game.

Well, that didn’t take long. After Jack Miller led Team Buckeye down the field on a nice sustained drive, only to throw an interception in the endzone, C.J. Stroud took the field for Team Brutus.

After completing a couple of long throws to Chris Olave and true freshman Emeka Egbuka, Stroud found Marvin Harrison Jr. in the back of the endzone on a slant for the first touchdown of the spring game. You may remember, Harrison, the son of former NFL standout Marvin Harrison, was the first freshman to lose his black stripe earlier in the spring.

Take a look below at the scoring strike that was right on target to the true freshman.

WATCH: Ohio State freshman QB Kyle McCord hooks up with 50+ yard bomb to Garrett Wilson

The annual Ohio State spring game is in full force, and already we have a 50-yard plus bomb as freshman Kyle McCord found Garrett Wilson.

The Ohio State three-headed quarterback race between C.J. Stroud, Jack Miller, and Kyle McCord is off and running. We’re seeing it play out in real-time during the 2021 spring game, and there have been moments already from all three.

The biggest of those moments so far has no doubt been the first pass five-star freshman quarterback Kyle McCord unleashed on Saturday. He dropped back, unleashed an arcing laser, and hit a familiar name in double coverage, receiver Garrett Wilson.

Wilson of course helped out with his ability to high-point the ball and catch in traffic, but part of being a quarterback at Ohio State is understanding where to go with the ball to get it to the guys that can make plays. Well done here by McCord to give Wilson a chance to do what he does best on a 54-yard pitch and catch.

Ohio State spring game rosters announced

Ohio State released the spring game rosters Friday afternoon. Get a look at Team Brutus and Team Buckeye before they do battle Saturday.

We are less than 24 hours away from the Ohio State returning to the ‘Shoe in front of at least some fans from the general public. It’ll be the first time that’s happened since the Buckeyes took on Penn State all the way back on November 23, 2019. And while there will only be about 19,000 fans that will get to witness the game of American football in the old stadium on the banks of the Olentangy, it is a reminder that maybe we’re coming out of the dark cloud of the coronavirus pandemic.

Aside from that, there is some football to talk about, and we’re passing along what the rosters will be for Saturday’s glorified scrimmage. This year, the teams have been divided up in into Team Brutus and Team Buckeye as opposed to the traditional Scarlet and Gray.

So let’s get to it. You can see who all is on Team Brutus here, and what players make up team Buckeye here.

It looks like two evenly matched teams on paper (literally), but it must be noted that the format is one that is a little different. The first half will be a traditional competitive game between the two squads with stoppages of play. In the second half, things will flip to an offense vs. defense format with a running clock. Ryan Day has already said there will no tackling, so this is really just a chance to kick the rust off, get into that big, beautiful stadium, and just enjoy being back at it again.

But make no mistake, this is a chance for players fighting for positions to make a name for themselves in an environment as close to a game-like setting as possible, so it does carry some weight.

We’ll of course have coverage of the game and analysis before, during, and after, so stay with us throughout.

Ohio State spring game to be tackle free

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has confirmed that the annual LifeSports spring game Saturday will be played without tackling.

It looks like the first Ohio State game environment attended by fans from the general public since the coronavirus pandemic hit will be one where tackling will not be permitted.

It’s not like it’s anything new to limit physical contact at the annual LifeSports spring game, but with so many players out because of injury, and with so many spots up for grabs, Ryan Day confirmed on local radio Thursday night that there will be no tackling in the game.

“We’ve actually done a good amount of tackling this spring — more than I can ever remember,” Day said. “There’s been three or four practices where we’ve had 60-plus snaps of guys getting tackled to the ground, and live scrimmages because we’re so far behind fundamentally, just coming off of last year. So we’re gonna stay up to kind of stay healthy here for the game.”

There’s no word on what the rosters are yet, but the format appears to be one more of a controlled scrimmage rather than a game with starts and stops like we’ve seen before.

Still, it’s a chance to see Ohio State get on the gridiron again, and if you were lucky enough to score tickets, it should still be a reminder of what last season was, and hopefully a bridge to something closer to normal this fall.
