Sooners celebrate Taylor Robertson, roll over TCU in 101-78 win

The Oklahoma Sooners defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 101-78 and honored Taylor Robertson with a post-game ceremony.

Coming off back-to-back losses for the first time this season, the Oklahoma Sooners celebrated Taylor Robertson, the all-time NCAA three-point shooter, in style. It was a 101-78 win over the TCU Horned Frogs. With the win, OU improves to 17-4 on the year and 7-3 in the Big 12.

TCU held a slim lead in the early minutes of the contest for about 15 seconds. It was all OU from then on. Five different Sooners scored in double digits, with Madi Williams leading the way with 26. Robertson had 18.

The Horned Frogs did hang around on the scoreboard through the first half. They only trailed by eight at halftime. Then the Frogs turned the ball over, sent Oklahoma to the foul line, and missed a lot of free throws. TCU went 9 of 18 from the free throw line for a paltry 50%. “Brick” chants rained down from the Pride of Oklahoma members and students that were in attendance whenever a TCU player made her way to the line.

Following the conclusion of the game, Taylor Robertson was honored for breaking the all-time NCAA three-point record. This ceremony involved a video of Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry congratulating Robertson and a few OU Ruf-Neks bringing out two live goats.

Robertson also met Curry face-to-face at the Warriors-Oklahoma City Thunder Game earlier this week.

Robertson is the only woman in college basketball history to make 500 three-pointers in her career.

The Sooners’ next game will be on Saturday, February 4, as they take on West Virginia at the Lloyd Noble Center. The action will be broadcasted on ESPN+.

Neveah Tot clutch down the stretch in Oklahoma’s 77-66 win over BYU

The Oklahoma Sooners overcame a poor shooting night and an early 11-point deficit to beat BYU 77-66 in Provo. From @john9williams

Oklahoma overcame an 11-point second-quarter deficit and a poor shooting night from three to pick up a 77-66 win over BYU.

Down eight points at halftime, Oklahoma chipped away at the Cougars’ lead, ultimately outscoring the home team 51-32 in the second half, including a 16-6 run in the final three minutes to pick up the win.

[autotag]Madi Williams[/autotag] led the way with 21 points, and [autotag]Neveah Tot[/autotag] was clutch down the stretch, scoring 11 of her 18 points during Oklahoma’s run in the final three minutes to help seal the win.

Tot was clutch down the stretch, converting a three-point play and hitting a three to give the Sooners a seven-point lead with 2:24 remaining in the game. [autotag]Liz Scott[/autotag] added a layup before Tot hit her second three in the final three minutes to extend Oklahoma’s lead to 72-60. Tot then added a pair of free throws to close out the scoring for the Sooners and pick up the 77-66 win.

Williams was 10 of 16 from the field and 2 of 3 from three-point range for her second 20-point game of the season. And Oklahoma needed every bit of her effort as [autotag]Taylor Robertson[/autotag] struggled from three in the game, hitting just 2 of 10 from downtown.

Liz Scott chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds for the Sooners, who were tested by a BYU team that hadn’t won a game yet this season.

[lawrence-related id=75590]

The Sooners shot 26.5% on 34 three-point attempts but did everything else well on their way to their first road win of the season. Oklahoma only turned the ball over six times, while BYU turned it over 15 times. OU won the rebounding battle and held a 16-9 edge on the offensive glass. The Sooners had nine steals in the game and three blocked shots.

It was a resilient win on the road for Jennie Baranczyk’s crew, who will have a quick turnaround to get ready for a Utah Utes team that is 3-0 and ranked No. 25 in the nation. The top 25 teams will tip off at 8 p.m. C.T. on the Pac-12 Network on Wednesday night.

Oklahoma Athletics set new records for fundraising in 2021-2022 fiscal year

After a fantastic spring for Oklahoma Athletics, the Sooners set several fundraising records in the 2022 fiscal year.

There’s been a huge buy-in from the Oklahoma Sooners fan base since Brent Venables came on board as OU’s head coach in the wake of Lincoln Riley’s departure. Venables’ vision and enthusiasm to take the program good to great, along with his understanding of how to see OU compete alongside the SEC when they join their new conference in the next couple of seasons, has created a sense of urgency for Oklahoma to improve their facilities and resources before making the jump.

The spring game displayed the renewed enthusiasm to an Oklahoma program that had been good under Riley but never able to take the next step into greatness. Fans set an OU spring game record with more than 75,000 fans in attendance to witness a Venables-coached team for the first time. But football isn’t the only sport that saw a tremendous amount of success over the last year.

OU Football recorded a win in the Alamo Bowl. Women’s gymnastics won another national title, while the men finished second in the nation. In her first year, Jennie Baranczyk led the women’s basketball team to the second round of the NCAA tournament. OU Softball won its sixth national title, and baseball went on a historic run to the College World Series before falling short to Ole Miss in the championship series.

OU Athletics’ $109 million raised during the 2022 fiscal year ending June 30 is the first time in program history that they raised more than $100 million and nearly doubles the previous record set in 2021 at $58 million.

According to the official release on SoonerSports.com, “An OU-record 53% of all members invested in key initiatives above and beyond any seating donation requirements. Notable FY22 pledges for facility projects and initiatives included:”

  • $25.2 million towards the Women of Championship Excellence Fund and facility projects for female student-athletes
  • Nearly $25 million for football and special initiatives
  • $19.2 million for Love’s Field (OU Softball).
  • $10.6 million for the Inspiring Champions Fund
  • $3.2 million for L. Dale Mitchell Park and Baseball Performance Center
  • $1.4 million for the Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion at the Headington Family Tennis Center
  • $1.25 million for McCasland Field House
  • $1 million for G.R.I.T. (Growing Resilient, Innovative Thinkers)
  • $900,000 for the Viersen Gymnastics Center

“Providing world-class resources for our student-athletes, coaches and staff is our top priority, and we simply cannot pursue and accomplish this standard of excellence without support from our stakeholders, donors and fans,” said OU Vice President and Athletics Director Castiglione in the University’s release. “OU Athletics and our generous and passionate stakeholders have worked year after year in lockstep to endow scholarships, increase services and resources for student-athletes, as well as help fund state-of-the-art facilities. We’re grateful to receive this record-setting support. This inspires us even more in our ongoing pursuit that only continues to evolve in the ever-changing landscape of college athletics.”

Oklahoma Coaches Caravan making a comeback

An old tradition has been brought back by the University of Oklahoma. The OU Coaches Caravan will return this year.

An old tradition has been brought back by the University of Oklahoma. The OU Coaches Caravan will return in 2022. The caravan will be headlined by Brent Venables, Porter Moser and Jennie Baranczyk.

This event gives fans a chance to interact with the people who run th programs they all know and love.

OU released this on Thursday:

Other stops are scheduled for Amarillo (May 10), Duncan (May 12), Houston (May 17), Dallas (May 19), Wichita (May 24) and Oklahoma City (May 26). Venables and Baranczyk are scheduled to speak at all seven events, while Moser is confirmed for the Duncan and Wichita stops, and will participate in more should his schedule allow. Radio voice of the Sooners, Toby Rowland, will emcee all but the Dallas and Oklahoma City functions.

Each Caravan event, scheduled to run from 6:30 to approximately 8:30 p.m. and include dinner, will allow coaches to engage with attendees by sharing their coaching philosophies and their visions for their programs, and how fans can impact OU’s success. – University of Oklahoma

Fans can purchase a ticket to a stop on the caravan for 50 dollars in Houston, Dallas and Oklahoma City. Tickets will be 40 dollars everywhere else.

Oklahoma giving the coaches their own platform to share ideas about their respective programs to Sooners fans across multiple cities is very interesting. All three coaches are brand new to the university. What better way to share their unified vision for Oklahoma athletics than to get on the road and meet people where they are.

With the passion and energy these three coaches bring to the table, they might have the attendees ready to suit up by the end of the tour.

After a strong performance against IUPUI in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the Oklahoma Women’s basketball team will face a tough test from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Sooners Taylor Robertson named AP All-American Honorable Mention

After a fantastic season, shooting guard Taylor Robertson was named an honorable mention to the AP All-American team.

Making their mark in the Big 12 and college basketball, the Oklahoma Sooners have had a tremendous season in Jennie Baranczyk’s first year at the helm. Taylor Robertson is one of several players that have had standout seasons for the Sooners, and she’s been rewarded. Robertson was named an AP All-American honorable mention.

Robertson averages 17 points per game for the Oklahoma Sooners, shooting 49% from the field and 45% from the three-point range. According to SoonerSports.com, Robertson is the first Sooner to collect an All-American since Aaryn Ellenberg in 2014 and is the 10th Sooner to be selected to an All-American team.

She was also named a finalist for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, given to the nation’s best shooting guard. Robertson leads the country in three-pointers made and is the first player from the Big 12 to post three seasons of 100 or more three-pointers.

With Ana Llanusa, the Sooners’ second-leading scorer, lost in November due to injury, Oklahoma needed Taylor Robertson to be a go-to player for this squad, and she’s delivered.

The Oklahoma Sooners get set for the opening round of the NCAA tournament this Saturday against IUPUI, hosting the first two rounds of the Bridgeport regional in Norman.

Taylor Robertson’s three at the buzzer lifts OU over Kansas State

The Oklahoma Sooners beat the Kansas State Wildcats on Taylor Robertson’s three at the buzzer.

On an afternoon when the Oklahoma Sooners were honoring Sherri Coale and the 2002 final four team, the present day Sooners provided a moment to remember when Taylor Robertson drained a three at the buzzer to beat Kansas State.

In a game where the Sooners led by as many nine, the Wildcats battled back in the second half to make it a game late.

The Wildcats would take a 60-59 lead with just under six minutes to play, but that would be the last time the Wildcats would lead. Over the final 5:59, Oklahoma was either tied or led Kansas State, ultimately winning on Robertson’s last-second three.

For the game, Robertson was 5 of 8 from the field and 4 of 7 from three for 17 points. She added five rebounds to her stellar performance. Madi Williams led the way for the Sooners with 18 points and 10 points, going 7 of 11 from the field. Skylar Vann was the only other Sooner in double figures with 10 points off the bench to help Oklahoma win their second in a row after a three-game losing streak.

The Sooners are 22-6 on the season and third in the Big 12 with matchups against Oklahoma State and Kansas to close the season,
