The Wisconsin Badgers have controlled their own destiny in the Big Ten West since Purdue went on the road and upset then-No. 2 Iowa.

The Badgers have taken advantage, winning four straight since that date including decisive victories over West rivals Purdue and Iowa. Now, all that stands between Wisconsin and its third Big Ten West title in five years? Trophy games against Nebraska and Minnesota.

All likely scenarios will force Wisconsin to win both of those two games to win the division. But with a lot of significant Big Ten action set for Saturday, there’s actually one way the team can clinch the West before Sunday morning.

What needs to happen?

  • Wisconsin beats Nebraska
  • Illinois (without head coach Bret Bielema) needs to beat Iowa on the road
  • Indiana (who hasn’t won a conference game this season) needs to beat Minnesota

It’s unlikely…but you’re saying there’s a chance?

WATCH: Highlights from Jack Coan’s time at Wisconsin

News dropped today that Wisconsin senior quarterback Jack Coan has entered the transfer portal and will play his final collegiate year elsewhere.

The news makes sense with redshirt freshman Graham Mertz taking the starting job after the senior quarterback broke his foot in practice before the season.

The news is still, though, tough to hear after Coan had a tremendous 2019 campaign and was preparing for more of the same in 2020.

Here, as Coan searches for another school to finish his career, are some notable highlights from his time as the Wisconsin Badger quarterback:

BREAKING: Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan has entered the transfer portal

Wisconsin football senior QB Jack Coan has entered the transfer portal after suffering an injury in October and missing the 2020 season.

After an impressive 2019 season, Wisconsin senior quarterback Jack Coan was in line to lead the Badgers yet again this year. Those plans took a hit in October when he broke his foot at practice and was ruled out indefinitely.

As Badger fans know, redshirt freshman Graham Mertz took over under center and is set to lead the team for the years to come.

News broke today Coan has entered the transfer portal with the hope of finding somewhere to play his senior year.

It wasn’t the end of the Jack Coan story that many hoped to see, and this news is understandable given the current quarterback situation at the school.

Whoever gets the quarterback is getting a really good player, a great person and an even better leader. It will be fun to watch where he ends up and what his future holds at the position.

Film Room: Freshman G Johnny Davis showing flashes of his sky high potential

The Badgers have a future star in the class of 2020

Through two games of Wisconsin basketball’s young season, the talented freshman class has already made their arrival known. Ben Carlson and Johnny Davis, the top two recruits in the class of 2020, are firmly established in Greg Gard’s rotation as key pieces off of the bench.

The 2-0 Badgers have their first real test of the season this Friday as they travel to Marquette for a rivalry renewed.

With Davis, despite only playing two games against non-conference opponents, his ability as a next-level scorer was on display. UW has a player who can create for himself, and has a ceiling as high as any freshman in the Big Ten conference.

Let’s take a look at some film from his opening game.

This sequence against Eastern Illinois perfectly summed up Davis’ potential. The true freshman makes an excellent read with Micah Potter fronting the big man. After the steal, he shows off his skill in the open floor. A nasty euro step followed by an off-hand extension finish off the window gave Davis one of the first highlights of his Badger career.

On his first collegiate touch, Davis showed off the creativity. A shot fake gets his defender in the air, and then he makes an awkward wrong-footed floater look easy.

Wisconsin has found their next shot creator in the true freshman from La Crosse.

We are now six weeks into the Big Ten’s 2020 football season and the No. 18 Wisconsin Badgers sit at 2-1 after seeing three of their six games canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.

A lot has gone well for the team this year, including redshirt freshman Graham Mertz bursting onto the scene, true freshmen Jalen Berger and Nick Herbig having an instant impact and a blow out win against Michigan.

Much has also gone wrong, though, with the program experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak and having to cancel two games, losing 17-7 to Northwestern and the battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe being canceled due to COVID-19 cases in the Minnesota football program.

Before the season, site editor Asher Low and I put together nine bold predictions for the team’s 2020 season.
