Big Ten ready to allow schedule changes inside conference due to coronavirus cancellations

The Big Ten has reportedly agreed to allow teams to play other in-conference games should cancelations arise from the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s been a tough year for everybody with a global pandemic causing all of us to re-think how we do day to day life. It appears that the Big Ten has done some rethinking as well, we just didn’t know about it.

ESPN college football reporter, Heather Dinich, shared via Twitter that the Big Ten has had a change of heart when it comes to scheduling. The conference presidents and chancellors met on November 5 to approve schedule changes, but only in conference play. This would allow teams with canceled games, who have had no COVID-19 issues to play each other, even if it would be a repeat matchup. The decision for those two teams to play would have to be made by noon on Wednesday for a Saturday game.

If the reports are true, the newly added change would have had no impact on the Big Ten season thus far as no more than one game has been canceled in a week. Because everyone else was playing except for Ohio State and Maryland, there was no one else to play. However, this could have huge implications in the coming weeks.

Ryan Day has made it known that he would certainly be in favor of teams being allowed to find an opponent should a game not be played due to the novel coronavirus cases. Opening the schedule up to teams outside the conference would make that much easier, but it looks like the Big Ten is at least offering a little hope to teams who have been COVID-19 free. Maybe an out of conference step comes later. Maybe not.

Either way, as for now, Ohio State is scheduled to take on Indiana in a top ten matchup this Saturday… assuming all parties stay healthy. Let’s hope so.

ESPN FPI predicts Ohio State football’s remaining win probability for remaining schedule

The ESPN FPI has revised its game-by-game predictions for the remainder of the Ohio State football season. See how things have changed.

OK, we’ve made it through three weeks now of Big Ten and Ohio State football. Yes. Believe it.

It sure didn’t look like we’d even get this far just a couple of months ago when the Big Ten decided to postpone the season due to coronavirus concerns. But, here we are.

We’re approaching the middle of the schedule after three games, and we’ve now had a decent look at the product on the field. So too, has the ESPN Football Percentage Index. Based on the play on the field, the worldwide leader has further updated the FPI predictions for the remainder of OSU’s schedule with five weeks to go in the regular-season schedule.

You’ll see that the FPI favors Ohio State heavily in its remaining games, but the win probability is changing in some surprising ways with future opponents.

Here’s what ESPN sees happening with the future of the Ohio State football schedule.

Ohio State’s game against Rutgers on Nov. 7 will be in prime time on B1G Network

According to an announcement from the Big Ten, Ohio State and Rutgers will do battle on November 7 at night on the B1G Network.

Ohio State officially has its second night game of the 2020 season set.

According to an announcement by the Big Ten Football Twitter account, the Buckeyes’ third game of the season against Rutgers on November 7 will be televised by BTN at 7:30 PM EDT (yes, our clocks will turn back by then). It’ll be a home game in the ‘Shoe for OSU.

It’ll be a homecoming for Scarlet Knights’ head coach Greg Schiano. He coached under former head coach Urban Meyer from 2016-2018 before leaving the Ohio State program before being hired for a second-stint in Piscataway in December of 2019.

The announcement means the Buckeyes will be playing two back-to-back night games since the game against Penn State is also scheduled to take place after dark in Happy Valley. That game will be broadcast by ABC beginning at 7:30 PM EST as well.

Ohio State football’s 2020 conference only schedule – 5 Things that stand out

The Big Ten has released the revised, conference-only football schedule for 2020 and there are five things that stand out for Ohio State.

We now finally know what the Ohio State football season will look like on paper. That’s because the Big Ten released the entire conference-only schedule on Wednesday, so rather than guess, assume, and opine on things that are theory only with the revised schedule because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we now have some real plans to look at.

There are some things that stand out about the new schedule and we’ve pulled out five things that stood out to us as we scanned the layout of everything with what’s being called a “Jenga” schedule. Keep in mind, just because we’ve now got a slate of games doesn’t mean that the season is a guarantee to be played.

However, at this point, at least there’s a robust plan to do everything possible to have college football this fall while keeping the health and safety of all involved at the forefront of everything.

Ohio State football 2020 conference-only schedule released by Big Ten

The Big Ten has released the revised conference-only football schedules for the 2020 season. Here’s what it looks like for Ohio State.

After all the hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing, we finally know what Ohio State football’s revised conference-only schedule looks like for 2020.

The Big Ten announced a move to play conference only games on July 9 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and since then there has been much speculation on what that would look like. Questions like what games would be viewed as priority, when will the games start, will teams play each other more than once, and more have been at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

We then received news from sources close to the situation that the schedules were close to coming out at the tail end of last week, but with all that’s going on with players opting-out, with an outbreak of the novel coronavirus at Rutgers, and more, that was delayed to Wednesday.

Now we have answers to a lot of questions and know what Ohio State’s schedule will be, at least to start. So, off we go …
