2020 NFL Draft order finalized following Super Bowl

The New York Jets will pick 11th in the 2020 NFL Draft as the league’s first-round order is finalized following the Chiefs Super Bowl win.

With the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl on Sunday night, they officially locked up the 32nd pick and finalized the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

While there is a hiatus of football until spring OTAs, now is the time to closely follow mock drafts. The scouting combine will start at the end of this month and it will create a clearer picture as to what teams are planning to do with their picks.

After finishing 7-9, the Jets will pick just outside the top-10 at No. 11. While it’s known league-wide that the Jets want to fix the offensive line in the first round, it all depends on whether or not any of the top-heavy prospects in the renches will be there by the time New York makes its selection.

Players like Georgia’s Andrew Thomas, Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, Louisville’s Mekhi Becton and Alabama’s Jedrick Wills Jr. will be intriguing options for the Jets at No. 11.

Other options for the Jets include wide receivers Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb from Alabama and Oklahoma, respectively, or LSU pass-rusher K’Lavon Chaisson. New York could move back, as it needs all the draft capital it can possibly get.

Here is a look at the finalized draft order as the NFL heads into the offseason:

All-hands Ravens Wire mock draft: Everyone grabs defense in 1st round

The writers here at Ravens Wire all took a stab at picking for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2020 NFL draft, grabbing impact defensive players

The 2020 NFL draft is still a few months away but with the Baltimore Ravens already in their offseason, everyone is looking forward. That means scouting the prospects and seeing who might be available when the Ravens are on the clock.

I asked the writers here at Ravens Wire to all run a simulation of the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. While we got a few different answers, it was clear everyone was on board with grabbing impact defensive players in the first round.

Take a look at who everyone took with the No. 28 pick in the 2020 NFL draft and why.

Matthew Stevens: LB Kenneth Murray, Oklahoma

First and foremost, I’m not turning down an Oklahoma guy that fits a need given Baltimore’s new predilection towards those players under general manager Eric DeCosta. While a pass rusher is the biggest need by far, I believe Murray can be a three-down inside linebacker and the replacement for C.J. Mosley.

After getting gashed on the ground by the Tennessee Titans in the playoffs, it was clear how much Baltimore missed having a sure-thing at linebacker. After limping through the season with Patrick Onwuasor, Chris Board and Josh Bynes; and with serious question marks at the position entering this offseason, it was a no brainer to fill the spot with an immediate starter in Murray.

Jets to pick 11th in 2020 NFL draft

The Jets will locked in with the No. 11 pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

Let the mock drafts begin.

The Jets hold the No. 11 pick in the first round of the 2020 draft as the order for non-playoff teams has been set. It is the first time in franchise history that the Jets have picked 11th.

New York also has one pick in the second round, two picks in the third round, one pick in the fourth round, one pick in the fifth round and one pick in the sixth round.

With the regular season complete, the attention now turns to general manager Joe Douglas. It’ll be his first offseason running after he was hired in June and he has his work cut out for him, as the Jets have plenty of holes they need to address in the offseason.

New York’s first-round pick will go a long way in accomplishing Douglas’ goal of building from the ground up through the draft. He can go a variety of ways with this pick as the Jets need offensive line help, cornerbacks and a No. 1 wide receiver.

Douglas and his front office staff have about four months to scout college prospects and prepare for the draft. Until then, it’ll be going to the combine, private workouts and pro days in order to find the next New York’s next first-round selection.

2020 NFL draft order: Jets have 7th pick after getting some help over weekend

The New York Jets are projected to pick No. 7 in the updated 2020 NFL draft order, according to Tankathon.

The Jets’ loss to Baltimore on Thursday Night Football wasn’t all bad.

Sitting at home over the weekend, New York got some help in the NFL draft pecking order. With the Falcons and Jaguars both winning on the road on Sunday, New York was able to better its position.

The Jets now have the seventh pick behind the Bengals, Giants, Redskins, Dolphins, Lions and Cardinals, according to Tankathon.

A shot at the top-five is still in reach with Pittsburgh and then Buffalo both still on New York’s schedule. With the Jets having only pride to play for in the next two games, it’s unlikely that they will be able to upset the Steelers and Bills. Both teams are still not locked into their playoff spots.

The Jets could play spoiler the next two weeks, but it would spoil having a top pick, which would hurt in the long run.

Picking in the top 10, the Jets will be in a position to take a plug-and-play starter and find an impact player. Names like Alabama WRs Jerry Jeudy and OT Jedrick Wills, Georgia OT Andrew Thomas, Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb, Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs and Ohio State CB Jeffrey Okudah come to mind.

The Jets will need more help moving up further in the draft order, but jumping a Cardinals team that still has Seattle and Los Angeles left on its schedule doesn’t seem all that feasible.

At this point No. 7 seems to be the highest the Jets can go, but stranger things have transpired.

2020 updated NFL draft order: Cowboys’ tale of 2 paths over final 3 weeks

The Cowboys will likely not make noise in the playoffs if they make it, but there’s ALWAYS a chance and tomorrow isn’t promised.

The Dallas Cowboys are either going to be NFC East champions, or one of the teams in the bottom half of the NFL. Which one will be determined over the course of the last three weeks of this topsy-turvy 2019 NFL season. Sitting with a 6-7 record courtesy of four wins against their miserable division, the Dallas Cowboys are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles.

By virtue of their head-to-head victory earlier in the year, Dallas could conceivably win the division with just seven wins. In fact, Dallas could lose this week against the Los Angeles Rams, the Week 16 tilt against the Eagles and still win the division if they beat the Washington Redskins in Week 17 and the Eagles lose their two non-Cowboys games.

With such a wide range of possible season-record outcomes, Dallas in turn has a wide range of draft order scenarios as well. The 20 teams which do not qualify for the playoffs are put in order from worst record to best, with any similar record ties broken by each team’s strength of schedule. The worst a strength of schedule, the better the draft slot. Each playoff team is sorted by round they lose, and any ties there are sorted by winning percentage, and then again by strength of schedule.

Entering Week 15, by virtue of their tiebreaker advantage, Dallas has the NFC East lead and therefore is drafting No. 21.

The Eagles, sitting at 6-7 with an opponents SOS of .582, are at No. 13.

If everything else in the league plays out as it currently stands (it won’t) but the Eagles overtake the Cowboys, that’s the spot in the draft order Dallas would fall into.

The tiebreaker difference is a matter of 8 draft slots, and theoretically the difference between grabbing a player with a first-round grade and a second; most drafts contain 18-20 prospects who are graded as first-round talents even though there are 32 picks in the round.

To make matters more interesting, there are four teams with five wins sitting right atop the Eagles’ current spot. It’s not out of the question if one of the two NFC East teams loses out, they then jump those clubs and could move all the way up to 8th or 9th in the 2020 NFL draft order.

2020 NFL draft order: Jets have 9th pick after Bengals loss

The New York Jets are projected to pick No. 9 in the updated 2020 NFL draft order, according to Tankathon.

Even though the Jets handed the 0-11 Bengals their first win of the season, New York’s 22-6 loss wasn’t all bad.

The Jets now have the ninth pick behind the Bengals, Giants, Redskins, Dolphins, Falcons, Lions, Cardinals and Jaguars, according to Tankathon.

The Jets’ recent winning streak took them out of prime position for a generational pass-rushing talent like Ohio State’s Chase Young, but there’s still some football to be played.

From here on out, the Jets don’t have many easy games and could very well find themselves back in the top-five. New York has the Dolphins, Ravens, Steelers and Bills remaining on its schedule and could very well lose out.

Picking in the top 10, the Jets will be in position to take a plug-and-play starter and find an impact player. Names like Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy, Georgia OT Andrew Thomas, Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb, Iowa EDGE A.J. Epenesa and OT Tristan Wirfs come to mind.

Wherever the Jets end up picking, with a top-10 selection all the more likely now, they will need Joe Douglas to hit a home run in his first draft as general manager.
