A look at the Ravens vs. Rams series history

The Baltimore Ravens will host the Los Angeles Rams in game 17 of the 2021 season. Take a trip down memory lane with their series history.

As expected, NFL owners have approved a 17-game season, meaning a little more football for everyone. This comes after the new CBA, ratified in March of last year, allowed the NFL to expand the regular-season schedule for the first time since 1978.

Under the expanded regular-season schedule, the 17th game would be an inter-conference matchup. The AFC North will take on the NFC West, meaning the Ravens will host the Los Angeles Rams since both finished second in their respective divisions last season.

With a new opponent added to the schedule, let’s take a look at the series history between the Ravens and Rams.

NFL expected to expand to 17-game schedule for 2021 season

The NFL appears to be close to finalizing an expansion to a 17-game schedule for the 2021 NFL season.

Are you ready for more football? Well, it looks like you’re going to get more of it this season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL is expected to officially expand the regular season from 16 games to 17 games starting this season. This comes after the new CBA, ratified in March of last year, allowed the NFL to expand the regular-season schedule for the first time since 1978.

Under the expanded regular-season schedule, the 17th game would be an inter-conference matchup. Though the NFL hasn’t confirmed or announced any matchups yet, it’s expected the AFC North will take on the NFC West, meaning the Ravens would face the Los Angeles Rams since both finished second in their respective divisions last season.

While fans are excited about the possibility of more football, many players have a different outlook since they’ll be the ones suiting up. Baltimore offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley took to Twitter with a GIF of Boo from “Monsters, Inc.” to show how he feels about the likelihood of an extended regular-season.

Who would the Ravens play if 17th game is added in 2021?

The NFL appears set to add a 17th game to the 2021 schedule which means the Baltimore Ravens will get to play the Los Angeles Rams

One of the portions of the new collective bargaining agreement the NFL and NFLPA signed last offseason was the ability to expand the season to 17 games. Though it was never formally written when the 17-game schedule would be implemented, many expected it to start in 2021 as the NFL begins negotiations on their broadcast contracts with television networks. If that happens, there would be a new challenger added to the Baltimore Ravens’ 2021 schedule.

On Monday, Peter King of NBC Sports wrote that a 17-game NFL season is “highly likely in 2021” as the TV partners and NFL schedulers have been working under that assumption this offseason. In that scenario, the AFC North would face the NFC West with teams that finished in the same position in the standings facing off. Having both finished second in their respective divisions, the Ravens would take on the Los Angeles Rams.

The last time Baltimore played the Rams was two seasons ago in a 45-6 Monday night beatdown in Los Angeles. Lamar Jackson threw for 169 yards and five touchdowns while also rushing for 95 yards. Cornerback Marcus Peters had recently been traded from the Rams to the Ravens and made his former team pay, notching one of the two interceptions Baltimore had on Jared Goff that night.

However, with Los Angeles recently agreeing to a trade with the Detroit Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford, the Rams might not be as much of a pushover this time around. It would be a very interesting matchup between two teams expected to fight for their respective division crowns and a spot in Super Bowl LVI.

What hasn’t been made clear yet is where the game would be played. Under the 16-game schedule, teams play an equal number of home and away games. If the schedule is expanded to 17 games, half the league would be forced to play an extra road game while the other half would get an additional home game.

Under new CBA, Broncos will have more games and a better chance to reach playoffs

Under the new CBA, the Broncos will begin playing 17 games in 2021. The team will also have better odds of reaching the playoffs.

NFL players voted to approve a new CBA on Sunday, paving the way for the Broncos to have a larger roster and practice squad in the coming years. Beginning next year, Denver will also have a longer season.

Starting in 2021, the NFL will switch to a 17-game regular season. That’s among the most notable changes under the league’s new CBA. To help make the expanded regular season more practical, the NFL will shorten the preseason to three games.

The league will also introduce an expanded postseason. Starting as early as next season, the NFL will have seven teams from each conference make the playoffs, an increase from the current format with six teams per conference.

With the Chiefs looking like the clear favorites in the AFC West, having an extra playoff seed will help the Broncos’ chances of making it to the postseason. The AFC and NFC will now both have three Wild Card teams.

Joe Ellis attending NFL owners meeting in New York

NFL owners and players might be drawing close to agreeing to a new CBA.

NFL owners have been “summoned” to New York to discuss terms of a potential new collective bargaining agreement with the NFLPA, according to a report from NFL Network.

The owners will hear a report on CBA negotiations and “consider terms,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted Wednesday.

The owners are meeting Thursday and players are expected to discuss the proposed new CBA during a conference call Friday. There’s a chance that the new CBA could be ratified before March 18, the start of the new league year.

Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis is attending the owners meeting as Denver’s representative, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. While the team is under control of the Pat Bowlen Trust, Ellis is acting as the Broncos’ owner.

The proposed new CBA being discussed by owners and players includes two significant changes — an expanded playoff format and a longer regular season.

Under the new CBA, the regular season will be expanded to 17 games within the new few years. The playoffs would be expanded from 12 teams to 14 teams, with that change happening as quickly as next season.

NFLPA to vote on possible 17-game regular season

The NFLPA will vote on a possible 17-game regular season in the NFL’s new CBA.

As the NFL and NFL Players Association continue to negotiate terms of a new collective bargaining agreement, both sides are going to have to make compromises and trade-offs to reach a deal.

One trade-off the players will have to consider is having their bodies play in one extra game per season in exchange for the NFL meeting some of their demands in the new CBA. ESPN reported earlier this week that the NFLPA plans to vote on the possibility of a 17-game season (via Seahawks Wire).

If the NFLPA approves adding an extra game to the regular season, the new schedule likely wouldn’t begin until 2021, when the new CBA would begin. Broncos coach Vic Fangio has opposed a 17-game season, suggesting instead that the NFL consider adding an extra bye week.

“I just think 16 is more than enough,” Fangio said in December. “You can see some of these teams, us included to a degree, the injuries start to pile up. If they want an extra week of TV, give everybody two byes during the season.”

Fangio can share his input, but he won’t have a say in the decision. It’s up to the owners and players to decide if the season will expand.
