Studs and Duds from Texas’ crushing loss to Iowa State

Which Texas players stood out the most against Iowa State?

Duds

Tom Herman, HC

This was the epitome of Herman’s career in Austin. The game management in the second half was embarrassing. Although Herman continues to reiterate that this is Mike Yurcich’s offense, it sure doesn’t look like it. The play calling was horrendous in this matchup.

Herman choosing to fake a punt to one of the slowest tight ends on the roster was unheard of in itself, but so was the decision to go for the fourth down rather than take the field goal on Iowa State’s 13-yard line in the fourth quarter to extend the lead.

Even with those two awful decisions, the Longhorns still had a chance to close out the game. On the second-to-last possession for Texas, they threw the ball twice for two incompletions and only wasted a minute off of the clock before punting the ball back to Iowa State.

Herman continues to hold Texas back.

Sam Ehlinger, QB

This hurts to say considering it was likely his final home game in Austin. Ehlinger has meant a ton to this program over his four-year collegiate career and is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play at the University of Texas. However, he was inaccurate in the final few possessions of the game and took a crucial back-breaking sack to force Cameron Dicker to attempt a 58-yard field goal..
