WR Andre Roberts
In a crammed position group, it’s always good to have a moment of standing out. Doing so in two of them? Even better. That’s happened for Roberts so far at Bills camp.
First, Roberts, an All-Pro returner, stood out in one short, quick video of punt returners. In it, the video showed three guys in the running for the return man job: receiver Isaiah McKenzie, corner Levi Wallace and Roberts. Wallace is not known as a returner at all… so seeing him there was intriguing. Then McKenzie? He has experience, but has problems hanging onto the ball in his career. He fumbles. By comparison, Roberts has made back-to-back Pro Bowls. Easy W for him there. Then Roberts made a couple nice grabs in one practice, even potentially making the best catch of training camp. Showing his worth as a reserve in the receiver room will help him tremendously.
Stock down
OL Brian Winters
It wouldn’t appear at this point that Winters, on a one-year contract, would be cut at all, but there’s been some telling signs and they start and end at Cody Ford. When incumbent starting right guard, Jon Feliciano, went down, Winters was signed. Because of that and his past experience as a starter with the Jets, many projected Winters as Feliciano’s replacement. But we’ve seen several signs that it could actually be Ford working in at guard to replace Feliciano with Ty Nsekhe at right tackle. Winters might be looking at a depth position on the interior of the O-line at this point, but we’ll see. Buffalo could kick Ford back outside still.
OL Trey Adams
Unfortunately for Trey Adams, a lot of his falling stock has to do with outside noise. Heading into training camp, the Bills had very few youthful prospects on the O-line. Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane previously had said he wanted to draft an unnamed offensive lineman at the recent draft, but failed to do so. Enter Adams, who previously was thought of as at least a mid-round pick, but dropped to undrafted rookie status with Buffalo.
Combining all that together, observers of the Bills pegged some opportunity for Adams and so far… we’ve heard really nothing positive on him. Maybe a practice squad spot can give him extra time to develop.
