First-year head coach Steve Sarkisian has an uphill battle to climb in terms of improving Texas’ roster.
The Longhorns are riding a four-game losing streak and have been plagued by the same issues all season. Offensive line, wide receiver, quarterback, and the pass rush have all been below average up to this point.
Sarkisian and his staff will likely need to dip into the transfer portal for immediate contributors this offseason, much like they did with Xavier Worthy, and more help will need to come from the next two recruiting cycles.
There are several priority targets still on the board for Texas from the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes. Fortunately for the Longhorns, a handful of them will be visiting Austin for the Kansas game on Nov. 13.
Arguably the most vital recruits expected to be on campus this weekend are a trio of offensive lineman. Five-star Devon Campbell, four-star Kam Dewberry and five-star Kelvin Banks will be in attendance for the Texas-Kansas game. To put it simply, it’s a crucial weekend for Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood.
If Texas hopes to improve their weakest position group this offseason, it’s crucial that the Longhorns land at least two of those offensive lineman left on the board. Banks is currently committed to Oregon, but it looks like Texas has made positive strides over the last few weeks.
Joining the trio in Austin this weekend will be four-star quarterback Devin Brown. The current USC commit is a promising flip candidate for Texas, and considering the future of the quarterback position at Texas right now is murky at best, Brown would be an excellent addition to the 2022 class.
Four-star safety Larry Turner-Gooden (2022), five-star running back Rueben Owens (2023), and five-star defensive lineman David Hicks (2023) among several others will be present as well.
Texas has a great opportunity to build relationships with the 2023 prospects, as well as inch closer to landing a commitment from several of the 2022 priority targets.
A dominant win on the field could go a long way this weekend.
