Report card: Bills outlast Steelers, 17-10

The Bills are playoff bound after their victory of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was a victory where the Bills relied on their stout defense.

Devin Singletary and Frank Gore combined for 102 rushing yards on 31 total carries. Singletary was the workhorse for Buffalo, carrying the ball for 87 yards, on 21 carries, an average of 4.1 yards per carry. Frank Gore was used on the occasional short yard situation, and in the red zone to little effect. Gore had ten carries for 15 yards, a pathetic 1.5 yard per carry.

Singletary set up the first touchdown for Buffalo with a 15 yard run, where the young back displayed plenty of moves, making multiple defenders miss. The Bills now have a starting running back in Singletary, who creates a spark for a lackluster offense.

It wasn’t a perfect night for Singletary though, he had two fumbles on the night, losing one of them.

Frank Gore was poor again, whose old school rushing style doesn’t jive with modern NFL defenses. This was evident during Buffalo’s second red zone trip. Gore was given the ball three times, losing six yards on his three carries. He no longer has the burst to bounce plays to the outside, which generally leads to him getting wrapped up in the behind the line of scrimmage.
