Reglance at Texas’ 2020 signees, their projections for this season

Texas had an impressive recruiting class in 2020, but will any of the signees receive significant playing time this season?

Offense

Bijan Robinson – RB (five-star)
  • Robinson is the No. 1 running back in the nation for this particular recruiting class. How do you not play him? He’s expected to split playing time early on behind Keontay Ingram and Roschon Johnson. He has the potential to gradually receive more carries and become the starter moving forward.
Hudson Card – QB (four-star)
  • One of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country, Card is expected to redshirt as a true freshman. With Casey Thompson securing the backup role behind Ehlinger, Card has a great chance to compete to become Ehlinger’s successor in 2021.
Ja’Quinden Jackson – QB (four-star)
  • Jackson is in a similar role as Card, both four-star quarterbacks who will likely compete among each other to become the starting quarterback in 2021. It’s likely that Jackson would have had to redshirt the 2020 season to begin with, but it became even more evident once he partially tore his ACL.
Tarik Black – WR (four-star transfer)
  • Black is a transfer wide receiver from Michigan, but he’s one of the most important additions to this incoming class and presents an immediate option on the outside. Although ankle injuries have riddled his collegiate career thus far, he brings a great deal of experience, knowledge and leadership to a young receiver group at Texas. Black should receive immediate playing time this season and has the potential to rise to the No. 1 receiver on the roster.
Jake Majors – OC (four-star)
  • Majors will provide solid depth at center in 2020, but unless Derek Kerstetter suffers an injury, he won’t receive playing time as a true freshman. However, a redshirt season will be beneficial for him as the four-star recruit has the potential to anchor this offensive line in the future.
Troy Omeire – WR (four-star)
  • Omeire is an impressive four-star wide receiver, but he’ll likely only receive minimal playing time as a true freshman if anything. He’s currently sitting behind Brennan Eagles, Tarik Black, Jake Smith, Jordan Whittington, Marcus Washington, Joshua Moore and Al’Vonte Woodard.
Logan Parr – OG (four-star)
  • Parr is in a similar position as Jake Majors, both impressive four-star signees but likely will not receive playing time aside from any major injuries. Junior Angilau and Willie Tyler are currently listed ahead of him at right guard on the depth chart.
Jaylen Garth – OT (four-star)
  • Garth is in nearly an identical situation as Majors and Parr. A redshirt season could benefit him as the four-star tackle has the potential to develop into a starter in the future. Denzel Okafor and Christian Jones currently occupy the right tackle spot.
Kelvontay Dixon – WR (four-star)
  • Dixon could be a darkhorse contributor in 2020. Texas is no stranger to utilizing speed and that’s exactly what Dixon brings. Mike Yurcich could creatively find a way to use the four-star speedster this season. He also has the ability to contribute on special teams.
Andrej Karic – OT (four-star)
  • There’s too many solid players ahead of Karic right now to receive immediate playing time, including one of the best left tackles in the country in Sam Cosmi. Karic could develop into Cosmi’s successor in the future, but may take a couple of years to develop.
Dajon Harrison – WR (three-star)
  • Harrison could contribute in the slot for Texas at some point, but Jake Smith and Jordan Whittington provide an intense position battle. It’s unrealistic to think that Harrison will receive much playing time this season unless he sneaks his way onto special teams.
Jaden Hullaby – RB/ATH (three-star)
  • Hullably is currently listed as a versatile athlete, but his projection is running back. There’s just too many weapons ahead of him right now to receive playing time in 2020. A redshirt season to develop at a particular position would benefit him moving forward.
