Pete Werner Butkus Award Semifinalist

Ohio State football’s Pete Werner has been announced as a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, given to college football’s best linebacker.

Senior Ohio State linebacker Pete Werner has been announced as one of sixteen semifinalists for the Butkus Award as the top college football linebacker.

Werner, from Indianapolis, has a high game of eight tackles this season, vs. Indiana. He has a team-leading 24 tickets this season and has added 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one quarterback hurry, and a forced fumble to fill up the stat book.

The three-year starter is one of just two Big Ten players on the list, joining Rutgers’ Olakunle Fatukasi. Finalists for the award are expected to be announced on December 7, with winners being announced on or before December 22. James Laurinaitis in 2007 and Andy Katzenmoyer in 1997 are the only two Ohio State players to win the award.

Good luck Pete!
