Joel Klatt leaves Georgia out of his way-too-early top ten

Joel Klatt puts Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and Florida all ahead of Georgia in his 2020 preseason college football rankings.

The Georgia Bulldogs have been snubbed once again. This time, Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt has snubbed the Georgia Bulldogs from his way-too-early college football top ten for the 2020 season.

Klatt put Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and Florida, who all lost to UGA in 2019, ahead of the Bulldogs:

Klatt’s top ten is as follows:

1. Clemson

2. Ohio St

3. Alabama

4. Florida

5. Oklahoma

6. Penn State

7. LSU

8. Oregon

9. Notre Dame

10. Texas A&M

It bears mentioning that the same UGA defense who gave up a combined 47 points to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Florida Gators, and the Texas A&M Aggies and is returning almost all of their starters. Georgia’s defense gave up the least points in the country in 2019. Base on the elite defense alone, the Dawgs deserve to be in the top ten.

Georgia’s offense is more questionable, but the Bulldogs will have better receivers in 2020 (George Pickens will be a monster) and have the usual elite stable of running backs. Can Wake Forest transfer QB Jamie Newman step up at UGA? Will Georgia’s offensive line hold up against the elite defensive lines of the SEC?

Those two questions will go a long way for determining the success of Georgia’s 2020 season. UGA is bringing in another elite recruiting class as well.

Tim Tebow gets married to Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in South Africa

Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters were married in South Africa.

Tim Tebow may try and hit singles as a Minor League Baseball player. However, the New York Mets farmhand is no longer single, himself.

The Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 draft pick of the Denver Broncos has married Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. The ceremony took place in South Africa, per People magazine.

The former NFL quarterback and the Miss Universe 2017 said “I do” in an intimate sunset ceremony at La Paris Estate in Cape Town, South Africa. During the 30-minute ceremony, they exchanged vows that they had written for each other — and Tebow told PEOPLE the night before the wedding that he was still putting the finishing touches on his.

“I want the vows to be perfect,” he said. “I’m leaving in the traditional things like ’till death do us part,’ but I’m also adding some of my own things to it.”

Shortly before sunset, approximately 260 guests were seated on a secluded lawn surrounded by tall hedges at the resort. At approximately 5:30 p.m. South African time, Nel-Peters walked down the aisle.

The menu for the reception included both American and South African cuisine, including steak, mussels, assorted cheeses and pasta. The couple chose their favorite salad that includes baby spinach, bacon, berries, cucumbers, vinegar and olive oil. “It’s such a simple salad,” Nel-Peters told People, “but we eat it all the time and it’s delicious. So we wanted it to be part of the wedding.”

Tebow was his usual eloquent self in describing the emotions of the moment:

“I’ve been looking forward to three things,” he said. “The first moment I see her in her wedding dress, the first kiss, and the first dance together as man and wife. It’s such a special night.

“I’ve been waiting my entire life for someone special, who I can spend the rest of my life with. I was waiting for the right person to come along. And now I’m marrying Demi. I can’t wait to see what our future holds. All of my dreams have come true. It was 100 percent worth the wait.”

You’re damn right ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone still went to his UFC 246 after party

A quick trip to the hospital isn’t going to stop Donald Cerrone from enjoying an ice-cold Budweiser.

A quick trip to the hospital isn’t going to stop [autotag]Donald Cerrone[/autotag] from enjoying an ice-cold Budweiser.

Things certainly didn’t go as Cerrone (36-14 MMA, 23-11 UFC) had hoped on Saturday night, suffering the fastest loss of his professional career in the headlining bout of UFC 246 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Former two-division champ Conor McGregor (22-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) swarmed Cerrone from the start of their welterweight matchup, and referee Herb Dean called off the contest after just 40 seconds.

Following the bout, Cerrone was transported to a local medical facility for precautionary reasons but was released shortly after, and he made his way to Las Vegas’ Park MGM, where On The Record speakeasy and club hosted his official after party.

It wasn’t quite the raucous affair McGregor enjoyed down the street at Encore Beach Club at the Wynn Las Vegas, but what else would you expect from the Future UFC Hall of Famer known best as “Cowboy”?

2020 Senior Bowl: 10 prospects for Rams to watch this week

The Rams should keep an eye on these 10 prospects in Mobile this week.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The first major week of draft season is upon us with the top senior prospects converging on Mobile, Ala., for the 2020 Senior Bowl. Future first-rounders participate in the Senior Bowl each year, giving teams an additional look at many of the best players in the country for a week of practice.

The game will take place on Saturday between the North and South squads, but a lot can be learned in drills leading up to the game.

Here are 10 prospects at the Senior Bowl the Rams (and fans) should be watching this week and on Saturday afternoon during the game.

Houston OT Josh Jones

Jones is a borderline first-round prospect, but he would be a potential replacement for Andrew Whitworth if he retires or leaves in free agency this offseason. He’s arguably the best offensive line prospect in Mobile this week and only played left tackle in college, which should make it an easier transition to the NFL at that spot. Landing Jones in the second round would be a huge steal for the Rams, especially if Whitworth isn’t back in 2020.

Alabama OLB Terrell Lewis

The Rams could be more versatile under new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, and Lewis offers the flexibility at outside linebacker and as a down-lineman in sub-packages. His college production was limited to only seven sacks in 14 games, missing all of the 2018 season due to injury.

Ben Simmons named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Ben Simmons had a strong week as he tries to lead the Sixers in the absence of Joel Embiid.

With the news that star center Joel Embiid would miss extended time with a finger injury, the Philadelphia 76ers knew that Ben Simmons would need to step up. The team’s other franchise cornerstone did just that, and he has been rewarded for his efforts with an Eastern Conference Player of the Week award.

In the past week, Simmons averaged 21.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists while leading the Sixers to a 3-1 record and their current three-game winning streak.

Interestingly, it was the second week in a row that the award was won by a Sixer, as Josh Richardson claimed the honor last week.

In addition to his strong statistical performance and the resulting team success, Simmons showed an increase in aggressiveness in the absence of Embiid while still making an incredible impact on the defensive end of the floor.

It’s certainly some well-deserved recognition for Simmons who has done a great job of stepping up as the Sixers await the return of Embiid. [lawrence-related id=23388,23195,23859,23743,23688]

Patrick Mahomes took a lot from Tom Brady’s advice after last year’s AFC title game

Patrick Mahomes took a lot from Tom Brady’s advice.

Patrick Mahomes’ legend continued to grow Sunday in Kansas City when powered his team to a comeback win over the Tennessee Titans and, in turn, led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl in 50 years.

And you have to believe this is just the first of many such trips for a QB who can just do absolutely ridiculous things with his arm, and even his legs.

This time last year, however, Mahomes and the Chiefs were trying to shake off a heartbreaking loss at home to the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. After that game, Tom Brady found Mahomes in the Chiefs locker room and offered him some advice.

That advice has stuck with Mahomes, who spoke after Sunday’s win about how that meeting with Brady has helped him this year:

Now Mahomes will look to win his first Super Bowl and start his chase of Brady, who has six rings.
