Overview:
Courtney Ramey was the third-leading scorer for the Longhorns this season, averaging just under 11 points a game this season. The sophomore has improved on his freshman year numbers, where he was only scoring eight points per game.
Ramey’s best stretch of the season came towards the end, beginning in the loss to Iowa State on Feb. 15. Over the next five games, the guard was in double figures, scoring 19 points a game, shooting the ball at 49%. Ramey was distributing the ball well and crashing the glass, assisting players three times a game and grabbing 5.2 rebounds. His defense was also impressive, getting 10 steals throughout the five-game stretch.
While Ramey may be the third fiddle to guards Matt Coleman and Andrew Jones, he is still a critical part of Texas’ success. The Longhorns were 15-4 on the season when Ramey got into double figures. Whenever one of the other two guards have an off day, he is able to provide much-needed scoring.
Next season for Texas will be one with a lot of returning talent. Ramey will be back for his junior season, hoping to once again improve his numbers. If he can elevate his level of play along with the rest of the team, the Longhorns will back in the position for an NCAA Tournament bid.
