LSU baseball rolls in both games of Sunday matinee

The Tigers concluded a perfect weekend with two wins in Sunday’s doubleheader.

Game 1

Bombs away in Baton Rouge.

Jacob Berry, Brayden Jobert, and Dylan Crews were all cleared for liftoff on Sunday morning at Alex Box Stadium, though Towson took the early lead in the top of the second inning when it hit a solo homer off of Ty Floyd.

That homer would turn out to be the only hit Towson would get all game.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Brayden Jobert got the party started with a two-run blast down the right-field line to make it 2-1 after four innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Berry joined in with a blast of his own. That was followed up by a Jobert RBI single to make it 4-1 after five innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Crews sent a missile out of the park in right field for a two-run homer which was followed by a Berry RBI single to make it 7-1 LSU after six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Jack Merrifield hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI and a wild pitch scored Drew Bianco to make it 9-1 LSU.

In the bottom of the eighth, Josh Stevenson scored on a wild witch and Josh Pearson hit an RBI single to right field to make the final 11-1. Floyd (2-0) got the start on the mound and went five innings allowing one run on one hit, Devin Fontenot came in as a relief pitcher and pitched three innings allowing zero hits while getting four strikeouts, Samuel Dutton came in for the ninth inning and struck out two of the three hitters he faced.
