Jim Harbaugh, Ryan Day reportedly get into heated exchange during Big Ten coaches call

According to a report from Bucknuts, Jim Harbaugh and Ohio State head coach Ryan Day had a “dust up” on a Big Ten coaches call Monday.

When you think of Ohio State vs. Michigan, you think of one of the gray skies in November, classic games, memorable moments, and one of the greatest rivalry in all of American sports.

Now, we might be able to also to think of coaches getting into a “dust up,” while in a conference forum.

That’s because according to a report from Dave Biddle of Bucknuts (subscription required), there was an uncomfortable exchange between Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and Ohio State head coach Ryan Day while appearing on a Big Ten coaches teleconference earlier this week.

According to the post by the Ohio State affiliate of 247Sports, Harbaugh interrupted Day while he was speaking and began to accuse the program of having on-field instruction before it was allowed. The man who loves to wear khakis and cleats literally everywhere he goes also referenced a photo linebackers coach Al Washington working with linebackers.

Day wasn’t taking the shot across the bow without a response. According to the report Day fired back on the call and told Harbaugh “How about I worry about my team and you worry about yours?”

Apparently, it didn’t end there either. Rumors later surfaced that Day worked it into a team meeting and made mention of Michigan hoping for a mercy rule because Ohio State might “hang 100 on them.”

Day was asked about the exchange on a Zoom call with reporters today and didn’t want to comment on it. It wasn’t a denial, but we’ll just leave it at the notion that some things are just better left unsaid.

Ohio State and Michigan are scheduled to meet on October 24 in Columbus. As long as the season makes it to that point with all the uncertainty revolving around the COVID-19 pandemic, it’ll be interesting to see the two interact.

Rivalry on.
