Position: Safety
Class: 2021
Hometown: Kennedale, Texas
Other schools interested: Baylor, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Washington
Outlook
If Texas has depth in one position group going into the 2020 season, it is the secondary. There is talent left and right, especially with B.J. Foster and Caden Sterns at the safety position. With those two off to the NFL within the next two years, replacements will be needed.
JD Coffey could be the replacement needed, as he is 100% on the Crystal Ball to commit to Texas. The seventh-ranked safety in the 2021 class, Coffey would join the Longhorns’ loaded defensive back roster.
For a couple years now, Texas has dominated in-state recruiting. Coffey’s commitment would be another great in-state prospect for the Longhorns. LSU may make a late push for him, but Texas seems to be the landing spot for Coffey.
