ESPN Big 12 Power Rankings: Texas is on the outside looking in

Texas would miss out on the Big 12 title game if the regular season were to conclude today, but these rankings will be shaken up next week.

If the regular season were to conclude today, Texas would be on the outside looking in.

In ESPN’s latest Big 12 power rankings, Texas remained in the same position at No. 4 overall in the conference. Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Oklahoma each occupy the top three spots.

The Longhorns have a realistic path to the Big 12 title game on Dec. 19, but they must defeat Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State in order for that dream to materialize.

No win is ever guaranteed in college football. However, Texas facing off against Kansas has to be one of the easiest games to predict this season. The Longhorns should confidently defeat the Jayhawks by several scores on Nov. 21.

Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will face off this week, therefore Texas should at least move up one spot in the Big 12 rankings next week. Whichever team wins the Bedlam showdown will likely be the favorite to secure the conference title this season.

The most crucial game left on Texas’ schedule remains at home against No. 17 Iowa State on Nov. 27. Take a look at the current Big 12 power rankings provided by ESPN below.

  1. Oklahoma State
  2. Iowa State
  3. Oklahoma
  4. Texas
  5. West Virginia
  6. Kansas State
  7. TCU
  8. Texas Tech
  9. Baylor
  10. Kansas
