Countdown to Texas Football: Greatest 99 and 98 in Longhorns history

In a countdown to the 2020 season, we remember the best players in Texas Longhorns history. Who were the best to wear 99 and 98?

Number 98 Brian Orakpo

Brian Orakpo was part of that 2005-06 BCS National Championship team that took down the vaunted Southern California Trojans. Orakpo enjoyed an NFL career that spanned 10 years with the Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans. He hung up the cleats following the 2018 season. He was named to the Pro Bowl team four times and PFWA (Pro Football Writers Association) all rookie team in 2009. He recorded 66 sacks with 12 forced fumbles over his career.

In the final year of his collegiate career, Orakpo racked up all the accolades and honors.

He racked up 132 tackles, 22 sacks, 38 tackles for loss, 62 pressures and six forced fumbles. Most of that damage came as part of the 2008 Texas Longhorns team. He was a one-man wrecking crew with 17.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks to go along with four forced fumbles.
