4-Star Nebraska IOL Target Commits to Michigan

2023 four-star interior offensive line prospect Amir Herring has committed to Michigan over Nebraska.

2023 four-star interior offensive line prospect Amir Herring has committed to Michigan.

Herring is the 13th-best interior offensive lineman in the 2023 class per 247 Sports.

Nebraska was one of the finalists for Herring along with Boston College and Missouri. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gave the Cornhuskers the third-best odds to land Herring.

Nebraska appeared to be a real contender for Herring. On June 5, Herring tweeted that he had a “great visit” at Nebraska.

Herring is from West Bloomfield, Michigan, so it is not a surprise that he chose to stay in his home state.

Michigan’s offensive line coach Sherrone Moore also played a significant role in Herring’s decision. Herring raved about Moore per 247 Sports.

“Just in a short time with him as offensive line coach, they won the Joe Moore Award and the way the offensive line played was a deciding factor in their season,” Herring said. “I got to see their dominant performance throughout the season, even against Ohio State. Coach Moore is a really good coach. He’s about the details and he’s just a great overall coach.”

Sure, losing out on Herring is disappointing, but Nebraska has already landed two interior offensive linemen in the 2023 class in Riley Van Poppel (No. 14 IOL) and Sam Sledge (No. 60 IOL).

Ohio State predicted to land four-star defensive lineman Jason Moore

With a commitment coming this Sunday, Ohio State seems to be sitting in a good position. #GoBucks

Once thought to be a Notre Dame lean, Ohio State now seems to be the leader in the clubhouse to land a commitment from the No. 5 defensive lineman in the country. Jason Moore has picked up several crystal ball predictions in recent days.

The Hyattsville, Maryland native included Ohio State on his shortlist in May along with his home state Maryland Terrapins, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Penn State. With good size and room to add more, recruiting analyst Brian Dohn says Moore should be a multi-year starter at the collegiate level and has potential to be a first-round pick in the NFL draft.

On3 now has the Buckeyes with a 75 percent chance to land Moore who will be making his decision on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. EDT

Moore comes from the same high school, DeMatha Catholic, that produced former Ohio State star, Chase Young. We’ll be sure to let you know when Moore’s commitment comes through.

UGA football offers 3-star WR, Penn State commit

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to three-star class of 2023 wide receiver recruit Yazeed Haynes

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to three-star class of 2023 wide receiver recruit Yazeed Haynes, who is currently committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Bulldogs have been in several recruiting battles with Penn State recently.

Can Kirby Smart and company convince Haynes to change his mind? Haynes is the No. 608 recruit in the rising senior class and the No. 78 wide receiver.

Yazeed Haynes plays high school football for North Penn High School in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. He’s the No. 16 recruit in Pennsylvania per 247Sports.

Yazeed Haynes committed to Penn State in June after previously being committed to Rutgers. Haynes went on multiple visits in June before publicly committing to the Nittany Lions.

Haynes has also received recruiting interest from West Virginia and Minnesota. The three-star has excellent speed and good hands.

Yazeed Haynes announced his scholarship offer from the University of Georgia via Twitter:

Recruiting expert says Ohio State the favorite to land Uiagalelei

On3 recruiting expert Chad Simmons believes Ohio State is in the lead for five-star prospect Matayo Uiagalelei. #GoBucks

While it has been a productive recruiting season so far, Ohio State is still on the hunt for impact players on the defensive line. One of the players Larry Johnson is keeping close tabs on is five-star edge rusher Matayo Uiagelelei.

There hasn’t been much talk about where Uiagelelei will land as the family has kept everything pretty close to the vest regarding a destination. We told you a while ago that dad, Big Dave, had high praise for Ryan Day and the Buckeye program.

Now, at least one recruiting expert thinks OSU has the inside track to land the Bellflower, California native. On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has USC in the lead, but On3 Director of Recruiting, Chad Simmons thinks otherwise saying he believes Ohio State is the team to beat.

Uiagalelei would be a huge prize for the Buckeyes considering they have only one current verbal commitment at the defensive line position in three-star Will Smith. Only time will tell if Simmons’ intuition is correct or if the blue-chip prospect will choose to stay closer to home.

BREAKING: 2023 defensive back Jeremiah Hughes commits to LSU

LSU stayed hot on the recruiting trail with the addition of a three-star corner on Thursday night.

LSU’s hot streak on the recruiting trail continued on Thursday.

[autotag]Jeremiah Hughes[/autotag], a three-star cornerback from Las Vegas announced his commitment to LSU. He chose the Tigers over Arkansas, Utah and TCU.

Hughes is LSU’s third cornerback commit in the 2023 class. He joins four-star [autotag]Daylen Austin[/autotag] and three-star [autotag]Ashton Stamps[/autotag].

He continues LSU’s success on the national trail. Bishop Gorman is a Catholic school that [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] likely had a relationship with from his time at Notre Dame.

The consensus rankings have Hughes as a three-star, but ESPN has him as a four-star. His’ recruitment didn’t take off until recently, and we could see him continue to rise in the rankings in the coming month as he continues to focus more on defense.

This also bodes well for LSU cornerbacks coach [autotag]Robert Steeples[/autotag]’ recruiting ability. Steeples is new to the college ranks and could still be getting his feet under him on the recruiting trail.

4-star Georgia RB a big fan of Spiller

A standout running back from the Peach State, who has already collected a handful of Power Five offers, had the chance to showcase his talent at the Dabo Swinney Camp last month.

Stockbridge High School (Ga.) four-star running back Jayden “Duke” Scott — a 5-foot-10, 203-pound pound rising junior in the class of 2024 – participated in one of the first sessions of the Swinney Camp earlier this summer.

“It went really well,” Scott told The Clemson Insider regarding last month’s Swinney Camp experience. “I had a really good experience, actually. I was able to work with both of my position coaches (CJ Spiller and Andrew Zow) and had a good talk with them. I learned a good bit at camp.”

What was Scott able to hear from both Spiller and Zow?

“I got really good feedback,” he said. “Not only the positives from my game but also just some little things to work on…they gave me really good feedback and we had some really good talks.”

Scott is a huge fan of Spiller’s coaching style — focused more on uplifting student-athletes rather than putting them down. He can tell that Spiller cares about the kids and the players that he coaches.

“I really like Coach Spiller,” Scott added. “He’s a great guy. He brings energy and he motivates you to want to be better.”

Clemson’s running backs coach did discuss a potential scholarship offer with Scott. While an offer doesn’t appear to be imminent, the Peach State running back knows that Clemson, which has yet to offer a rising junior at his position, is being patient when it comes to the class of 2024.

“He told me that I’m still a young guy, but he’s working on building a relationship with me,” Scott said. “He’s definitely building a relationship and we’re still staying in touch. I guess in my junior year, that’s when we should be looking for an offer.”

With that said, what would a potential offer from Clemson mean for Scott and his recruitment?

“It would be a big offer for sure,” he said. “I really like the school. I’ve been liking the school since I was a young guy. It would be big for me and definitely something to consider.”

Between Clemson and Tennessee, Scott only camped at two schools this summer He also visited Wake Forest, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisville and Western Kentucky.

It was important for Scott to get back on the recruiting trail this summer after he fractured his foot during the second game of his sophomore season. Scott was medically cleared to return in Week 9, but his high school took a cautious approach to bring him back from a significant lower-body injury.

Now a year older, he’s hoping that he’s able to take his game to the next level this upcoming season and maintain a clean bill of health.

“I would say I’m an explosive back with great vision,” Scott said when asked to describe himself as a player. “I always see a hole and have the ability to make big plays. I don’t get tackled by the first man.”

Michigan football lands four-star offensive lineman

Big addition to the 2023 class! #GoBlue

Michigan football’s recruiting class got much stronger after keeping the in-state product at home.

The 2023 West Bloomfield (Michigan) four-star interior offensive lineman, Amir Herring, announced his decision to commit to the Wolverines over Nebraska, Missouri, and Boston College on Thursday evening. He also held offers from Arkansas, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and Penn State among others.

Herring is a 6-foot-3 300-pound interior lineman that is projected to play guard — or center having some experience there — at the collegiate level. According to 247Sports composite, he is the 283rd-ranked player in the country and the 13th-best interior lineman. He is also the No. 4 recruit in the state of Michigan.

Allen Trieu, who’s a national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, compares Herring to Lamont Gaillard from the Arizona Cardinals. Here’s Trieu’s evaluation:

Four year high school starter who has played good competition and in big games. Smart and very technically sound with excellent all around intangibles. Has violent hands and stops defenders with his punch. Plays with good balance and keeps his feet underneath him — also strong in the lower body. High school tackle who will move inside to center or guard at the next level. Needs to continue to improve overall agility and lateral quickness. Will also have to adjust to a new position but has a little bit of center experience and is a smart, hard working player who is likely to be able to make the transition.

Michigan now has nine recruits verbally committed for the 2023 cycle with Herring in the fold. He is the first offensive lineman that has committed to the maize and blue in the class.

Oklahoma misses out on in-state EDGE as four-star Bai Jobe commits to Michigan State

The Oklahoma Sooners had a loss on the recruiting trail as the state’s best player chose Michigan State over the Sooners and Alabama.

Oklahoma simply can’t win them all. As much as the Sooners may want to, they won’t get every major in-state recruit. That’s the case as the Sooners lose another in-state talent to an out-of-state school.

In this instance, 2023 four-star EDGE Bai Jobe committed to the Michigan State Spartans over the Sooners, Crimson Tide, and a few others.

Jobe, the number one player in the state of Oklahoma plays at Community Christian School in Norman, Okla. His proximity to Norman made it easier for the Sooners to recruit him but ultimately Jobe wanted to get away and spread his wings elsewhere. He becomes the highest-rated recruit in Michigan State’s class, according to the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him No. 64 overall and No. 9 at his position..

Oklahoma will rebound and land the No. 3 player in the state of Oklahoma, athlete Jacobe Johnson, a top 100 player nationally.

Projections overwhelmingly favor the Sooners here. Barring anything unforeseen, the Sooners will only bring two of the top ten players in the state out of the 2023 class. A number they’d likely like to increase as they begin to take aim at the 2024 class.

Adepoju Adebawore and Tausili Akana look like the most likely candidates to be added to the Sooners recruiting class next at the edge position, and as the dust settles on the Bai Jobe’s recruitment that’s where defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis will focus his efforts.

Elite Peach State DL talks recruitment, why Clemson is among his top schools

One of Clemson’s top defensive linemen targets in the class of 2024 dropped his top 10 schools this past Wednesday afternoon via social media.

Meadowcreek High School (Norcross, Ga.) four-star Champ Thompson — the son of former Atlanta Falcons offensive tackle Michael Thompson — is down to Clemson, Texas, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Georgia and Miami.

Thomspon (6-3, 280) ranks as the No. 18 defensive lineman and No. 189 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

Clemson got Thompson on campus for an unofficial visit in March and he returned to participate in last month’s Dabo Swinney Camp. He earned an offer based on the relationship he’s built with the coaching staff and what he displayed at camp in early June.

“They’re really big on family,” Thompson said when asked what stood out about Clemson thus far. “I love that. They want every player to be a family and they don’t just offer guys to offer guys. When you get an offer from Clemson or schools like Alabama and Georgia, it means something.”

Here’s a summary of Thompson’s thoughts on each school in his top 10.

Clemson

“I love the coaching staff. I love the culture that they have. I felt like that would be a good fit for me and a place that I can develop as a player and a man.”

Texas

“I love the d-line coach out there (Bo Davis). I feel like that now that they’re in the SEC, they’ll have some good competition that I would get to play against if I did go there.”

Virginia Tech

“I love the culture that they have, the fanbase and what they’re trying to build up there right now.”

Oklahoma

“I love the coach who offered me (defensive coordinator Ted Roof). They’re in the re-builing stage too. They’re in the SEC too. So that would be good competition to go against and prepare me for the next level.”

Arkansas

“I love the culture that they have and I love the coaching staff. One of my dad’s college teammates (Jimmy Smith) is actually the running back coach up there. So, it kind of felt like a family fit when I went up there on the visit.”

Florida State

“I love (defensive tackles coach Odell) Haggins and Coach Mike Norvell and what they’re building up there. It’s something that I’d like to be a part of.”

Georgia Tech

“I love the (assistant head coach/defensive run game coordinator David Turner). I didn’t know the guys that he put in the league and developed were Chris Jones and Fletcher Cox. I didn’t know that he put those guys in the league, and I see myself being in the league, playing and mimicking my style like those guys.”

Alabama

“It’s Alabama. The culture — they build great young men, great football players and they win championships. It’s everything you want in a school.”

Georgia

“I love the defensive line coach (Tray Scott). I love the way that they play against other teams.

Miami

“I love Miami. I love the culture from back in the day — ‘It’s all about the U.'”
