Eagles have 2 players make PFF’s 2021 Third-Quarter All-Pro Team

Philadelphia Eagles have 2 players make PFF’s 2021 Third-Quarter All-Pro Team

We’re almost at the end of the 2021 NFL regular season and with the Eagles on their bye week, Pro Football Focus recently unveiled its third-quarter all-pro team.

Even with Philadelphia currently at 6-7 on the season, the Birds still had two players make the list, with Jason Kelce making the second team and Darius Slay logging first-team honors.

Second Team: Jason Kelce, Philadelphia Eagles
Jason Kelce keeps playing at an extremely high level, flashing absurd athleticism for the position that allows him to make some blocks in the run game other centers couldn’t dream of. He has allowed 15 pressures in 13 games.

FLEX-D DARIUS SLAY, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Big Play Slay lived up to his nickname over the past month of play, getting in the end zone on both an interception and a fumble return for the Eagles. Slay has allowed just a 71.2 passer rating and is a threat to score any time he gets his hands on the ball.

Chiefs rookie center Creed Humphrey was the first team center, and Tom Brady was the first-team quarterback.

Here were Jacksonville’s standouts in the blowout loss to Rams, per Pro Football Focus

Tyson Campbell and Laquon Treadwell had solid outings for the second-straight week, among others.

It was certainly hard to find many positives in Jacksonville’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13. The offense looked as lost as ever, and the defense didn’t hold up very well against its toughest test since it has started playing better over the last month.

The 2-10 Jags haven’t improved much this season, and Sunday’s game made it clear that the team has a lot of work to do this offseason to compete with the best teams in the league. With that being said, this game wasn’t completely devoid of solid individual performances, and with a number of injuries plaguing the team on both sides of the ball, several players thrived with the increase in playing time.

Here were Jacksonville’s best performers in the 37-7 loss in Los Angeles, per Pro Football Focus.

Eagles’ PFF grades: Best and worst from Week 12 loss to the Giants

Philadelphia #Eagles’ #PFF grades: Best and worst from Week 12 loss to the New York #Giants

The Eagles lost a disastrous 13-7 matchup to the Giants on the road in a game that they were favored in.

The loss has some questioning the quarterback and asking the owner to re-evaluate the general manager in the wake of Jalen Reagor’s inability to break out in his second year, while compared to Vikings star Justin Jefferson.

The proof of Philadelphia’s demise can be found in the Pro Football Focus grades.

Here were the top-performing Jaguars players in Week 12, according to PFF.

Jacksonville is back in the loss column for the third-straight game after falling short in its comeback bid against the Atlanta Falcons. The Jaguars trailed 21-3 at one point, but 11 unanswered points cut that deficit to just seven. However, the Jags couldn’t get it done on their final drive, turning it over on downs to fall to 2-9 on the season.

It was another frustrating game, and injuries continue to prove costly for this team on both sides of the ball. But with that being said, a few players had very good games against Atlanta, with one in particular grading very highly according to Pro Football Focus.

Josh Allen leads the way once again for the Jags in PFF’s weekly grades.

Jacksonville took a step back in Sunday’s 30-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The defense, which had looked much better after holding the Buffalo Bills to six points and the Indianapolis Colts to three in the second half, struggled quite a bit in this game, allowing 171 yards on the ground, most of which came from speedy receiver Deebo Samuel.

Meanwhile, it was another bad game for the offense, and injuries to left tackle Cam Robinson and receiver Jamal Agnew made an already thin Jags lineup even thinner. It wasn’t Trevor Lawrence’s best game, but he avoided turnovers.

Ultimately, this team just doesn’t have enough weapons on offense, and its defense is still a work in progress. Still, there were a few standouts in Sunday’s game, and here were the top five performers, according to Pro Football Focus.

Here were the highest-graded Jaguars in Week 10, per Pro Football Focus

Jacksonville had some impressive individual performances in spite of the loss to Indianapolis.

Jacksonville couldn’t string together a second-straight win on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, and the team is still searching for its first winning streak since the midway point of the 2019 season. The Jaguars overcame a 17-0 first-quarter deficit to get within six points on the final drive, but a fumble from Trevor Lawrence that the Colts recovered ended any chance at completing the comeback.

The Jags fall to 2-7 on what has been a frustrating Year 1 for coach Urban Meyer and Lawrence. Still, it isn’t all negative. The team continues to play better on defense after a dominant performance against the Bills last week, and while the offense has struggled in recent weeks, there were still a few bright spots in that regard.

Here’s how the top five Jags players, according to Pro Football Focus, fared in Week 10:

Here are Jags’ highest graded players in Week 9, per Pro Football Focus

Here were the six-highest graded Jaguars on Sunday (plus a bonus player who impressed in very limited action).

Considering Jacksonville earned one of the franchise’s biggest wins in recent memory on Sunday, it shouldn’t be surprising that several players had fantastic performances.

According to the metrics from Pro Football Focus, the Jags had six qualifying players earn a grade better than 75 in the 9-6 win over Buffalo, and given the fact that the defense shut down one of the most talented offenses in football, it shouldn’t be surprising that four of those players play on defense.

The highest graded Jaguar on Sunday was Chris Manhertz, who only made one catch for nine yards in the passing game. But his impact this season (and on Sunday, especially) has mostly been felt in the blocking department. Manhertz is one of the league’s better blocking tight ends, and he earned an 88.8 grade because of it. The Jags managed 79 yards on the ground without James Robinson available.

Next up is linebacker Damien Wilson, who wasn’t too far behind Manhertz with an 85.8 grade. Wilson is having a very solid season lining up next to Myles Jack, and he had seven total tackles with a hit on the quarterback and a pass breakup.

Sticking with the defense (and looking at the secondary, specifically), cornerback Shaquill Griffin (81.8) had one of his better games of the season. He spent most of the game lined up on superstar receiver Stefon Diggs, and while Diggs had six catches for 85 yards, Griffin didn’t give up many costly plays while totaling three tackles and a forced fumble.

Rudy Ford (78), who plays nickel (had 46 slot corner reps) and was on the field for all but one defensive snap, had arguably the best game of his NFL career, totaling six tackles, three pass breakups, and his first interception as a professional.

Turning our attention toward the offensive line, Ben Bartch has done a very solid job filling in for the injured A.J. Cann, and he’s making a strong case for being a starter on the interior next season (Cann’s contract expires after 2021). He earned a 77.5 grade, the highest of anyone on the offensive line.

Finally, there’s the player you might have expected to see higher on this list. Josh Allen was dominant against the quarterback who shares his name, totaling eight tackles, a pick, a sack, and a fumble recovery. However, Allen only graded at a 75.5, and the reason for that was that he actually struggled in the pass rush, per PFF, earning just a 60.6 grade in that regard. Still, it’s hard to find much fault in his performance.

Earlier, I mentioned qualifying players. That’s important, because if you don’t factor in snap counts, there’s one player who graded above everyone previously mentioned, and that’s backup quarterback C.J. Beathard. He entered the game in the second quarter after Trevor Lawrence suffered an ankle injury, and while he only saw six plays of action, it was an impressive six plays.

He was 2-of-2 for 33 yards, earning praise from Lawrence postgame, and that was good enough to earn a stellar 96.7 grade. Obviously, it was a small sample size, but Jacksonville should feel good about its backup quarterback in the event of a more significant injury to Lawrence.

Here are Jacksonville’s best performers from the loss to Seattle, per PFF

Andrew Norwell led the way, and he continues to be the strength of the offensive line without Brandon Linder.

There certainly are not many ways to positively spin Jacksonville’s loss to Seattle. Coming off a bye, the team looked lost on defense and incredibly sloppy on offense. That’s not an encouraging sign at all, but this game wasn’t entirely devoid of positives, at least when it comes to individual performers.

Several players had very solid games, headlined by guard Andrew Norwell, who was the Jags’ highest-graded player, per Pro Football Focus, in Week 8. He earned an 87.7 grade, and he continues to be one of the few bright spots on the team.

He was followed by another offensive lineman in Ben Bartch, who graded at 77.8. Bartch is only playing in place of the injured A.J. Cann, but he’s been capable and would give the Jaguars some security for the future if it chose to move on from Cann.

The third player on the list came as a bit of a surprise, as he only appeared on 17 snaps and wasn’t even targeted in the passing game. But tight end Chris Manhertz is known for his blocking acumen, and he finished with a 76.6 grade because of it.

Just behind Manhertz is the highest-rated defensive player, linebacker Damien Wilson (76.0). He had some help with Myles Jack back at his side, but he had the more impressive performance on Sunday, per PFF. He finished second on the team in tackles with eight, behind Jack.

Next up is receiver Jamal Agnew (71.9), who finished behind tight end Dan Arnold and running back Carlos Hyde in receiving with six catches for 38 yards and a touchdown. He was mostly signed for his returning abilities, but he has stepped up in DJ Chark Jr.’s absence and is playing well at receiver.

Following Agnew is another player who didn’t see many snaps but made the most of them. Edge rusher Jihad Ward (71.5) has arguably been better than K’Lavon Chaisson this season, and despite only totaling one tackle on 18 snaps, PFF liked his play on Sunday.

Finally, we have Jack, who led the team in tackles with nine in his return to the field but didn’t grade as highly as his counterpart Wilson. Still, Jack had a 71.1 grade, and the Jaguars should be pleased to have one of their top players on defense back in the fold.

Other than Norwell, no one in this group had an elite performance, but there was still some solid play hidden deep within a disaster of a game.

Josh Allen named to PFF’s All-Week 6 team

Josh Allen only has 2.5 sacks on the season, but his play against the Dolphins earned him recognition from Pro Football Focus.

Jacksonville’s defense has been a major liability to this point in the season, and a major reason for that (beyond personnel issues in the secondary) is the fact that the team hasn’t done a very good job of bringing down the opposing quarterback. Even when it’s generating some pressure, the defensive front hasn’t been able to produce sacks with the team netting just eight so far on the season.

The best pass rusher on the roster, third-year edge rusher Josh Allen, only accounts for 2.5 of those sacks, despite the fact that he is creating a lot of pressure and has been solid against the run. He’s been the team’s highest-graded player, per Pro Football Focus, the last two games, and his effort in Jacksonville’s Week 6 win over Miami was enough to earn him a spot on PFF’s team of the week, alongside Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Randy Gregory, who was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Allen is not having nearly as productive a season as many would have hoped after a sophomore slump in 2020, but the stat sheet doesn’t tell the whole story, and Allen is making a contribution in forcing quarterbacks to make quick decisions. If he continues to play at this level, the production will eventually come.

Here’s the full team of the week from PFF.

Here are the top performers in Jacksonville’s win over Miami, per PFF

Here were Jacksonville’s top performers in Week 6, per Pro Football Focus

Jacksonville’s 20-game run of futility came to an end with one kick from Matthew Wright, as it defeated the Miami Dolphins in London 23-20 to end the longest losing streak in football over the last 40 years. The Jaguars still have their limitations as a team, but they’re starting to play a lot better, especially on offense.

However, when looking at this week’s top performers from Pro Football Focus, it’s hard to ignore the presence of the defensive players, who stand atop the list. First is Josh Allen, who once again was the highest-graded Jaguar in Week 6 with a 92.9 grade.

Allen had seven tackles and registered a hit on the quarterback, but he needs to get better at finishing plays. While he has six quarterback hurries on the year, it’s only netted him 2.5 sacks.

He’s followed by Dawuane Smoot, who continues to impress on the interior. While he only had two tackles, he matched Allen’s pressure with one of his own. Meanwhile, safety Rudy Ford (who sees most of his opportunities in the slot in dime packages) had three tackles, and while health is an issue in the secondary, he could continue to see a bigger role.

Now, we finally get to the offensive players. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence led the way with an 82.5 grade as he tossed for 319 yards and one touchdown while avoiding any interceptions (though he did have a fumble on a strip-sack). He’s followed by his favorite target this season, Marvin Jones Jr., who made seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown.

These PFF lists are starting to look pretty similar every week, and it’s clear that Jacksonville’s standout players are starting to emerge. But even Allen, a player grading above a 90, hasn’t been productive enough to make a difference.

The offense is starting to come along, and there are certainly some positive signs for the defense. But with a tough stretch of games coming up, there isn’t a lot of time for rapid improvement.
