Tweet, tweet! The best Notre Dame tweet through halftime vs. Georgia Tech

Take a look at the best Notre Dame tweets from the first half of the game against Georgia Tech.

As most of us watched Clemson struggle to beat Boston College at home without star quarterback Trevor Lawrence, you might have missed some Notre Dame tweets. The good news is we at Fighting Irish Wire have you covered. Here are the best Irish-themed tweet from pregame through the end of the first half.

Watch: Williams TD gives Notre Dame lead back over Georgia Tech

Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams scores a short touchdown to give Notre Dame the lead back over Georgia Tech.

We’ve seen this before, Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams fumbles, gets mad at himself, shakes it off and finds the endzone to redeem himself. It happened against Florida State and it happened once again today vs. Georgia Tech.

Williams fumble was costly in this game, as Georgia Tech scooped and scored to even the game at 7. The sophomore made up for it on the ensuing drive to give Notre Dame the lead back, 14-7 early in the second quarter.

Watch: Book finds Wilkins for early lead vs. Georgia Tech

Notre Dame strikes first as Ian Book finds Joe Wilkins for an 8-yard touchdown giving the Irish an early 7-0 over Georgia Tech.

What a drive the Irish started out the game with a 15-play, 81-yard scoring drive that ended with Ian Book finding Joe Wilkins for a short 8-yard touchdown.

That was the first score for Wilkins in his Irish career.

That gives the Irish an early lead over the Yellow Jackets, 7-0, early in the first quarter.

ESPN names Notre Dame’s weakness in securing a CFP spot

ESPN’s Anthony Treash looked at each of the College Football Playoff contenders potential weakness and Notre Dame’s (Ian Book) was fairly obvious.

The Irish are squarely in the mix for a College Football Playoff spot right now, ranked No. 4 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Poll heading into this weekends games. With that in mind, ESPN took a look a the potential weakness for each CFP contender (Insider article).

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Anthony Treash identified quarterback as the weakness for Notre Dame, specifically Ian Book. The numbers Treash looked at didn’t paint a very good picture for the senior signal caller. So far this year Book has amassed a 59.0 passing grade from Pro Football Focus, which puts him in the lower third of all NCAA quarterbacks.

More concerning is the fact that Book β€œhas produced more turnover-worthy plays than big-time throws and ranks in the bottom five in the ACC in both negatively graded and positively graded throw rate.” Yuck.

The level of concern for Treash is high as he points out that β€œeven with a great defense, it isn’t likely Notre Dame beats Clemson this year with Book playing the way he is.” Hate to agree with him, but it is true. Book needs to play at a much higher level in order for the Irish to knock-off big, bad Clemson.

With Book being a 5th-year senior, we all know what he is, there likely aren’t any surprises in his game that will manifest over the next two weeks as the Irish prepare to face the Tigers. Hopefully, the defense continues their stellar performances and Book can make a few plays for Notre Dame to give them a fighting chance at an upset over Clemson keeping their CFP hopes alive.

Why Notre Dame Will Win

It might not be splashy, and it might not be all that exciting, but Notre Dame has been tough as nails, especially on third downs.

Don’t get caught up in the lack of a big passing game – that worked just fine last week against Pitt. Don’t get into a twist over the lack of takeaways. The Irish lead all ACC teams in third down defense, and the offense is hitting 52% of its chances – only Clemson is better.

Georgia Tech has the ACC’s worst third down defense, the run D is giving up close to 200 yards per game, and it’s about to get hammered on by the strong Notre Dame offensive line and a ground attack that’s averaging over five yards per carry.

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Can Georgia Tech somehow start forcing takeaways from the start?

The Georgia Tech defense hasn’t exactly been a brick wall – giving up 121 points over the last two games – but it’s been able to take the ball away. It didn’t do it against Boston College in last week’s loss, but it generated two takeaways or more in four of the other five games.

Offensively, for the first time in years, the passing game is working. A lot is coming from an attempt to keep up, but at least the yards are there with 244 or more in four of the six games. Georgia Tech hit the 200-yard passing mark in three times in the previous 47 games.

What’s Going To Happen

Notre Dame doesn’t seem to be able to play the same type of game twice, but it’s been effective. On the plus side, the Irish are adaptable to the flows of games.

Georgia Tech’s defense isn’t doing enough in any way, but Notre Dame isn’t going to get crazy here. Run, control the tempo, control the clock, own third downs, and then …

It’s on to Clemson Week.

Two Notre Dame stars get weekly ACC awards, one gets national award

The ACC announced their weekly awards, with Notre Dame’s Liam Eichenberg and Ian Book getting recognized, while Book got national attention as well.

After the Irish went out and dominated Pittsburgh on the road to a tune of 45-3, there was surely going to be some recognition with such an impressive performance. That’s exactly what happened this afternoon as the ACC released their weekly awards and two Notre Dame players were among the best of this past weeks play.

Eichenberg helped the offense roll up 434 yards while Book passed for 312 of those. Book’s performance (16/30 for 3 touchdowns) caught more than just the ACC’s eye’s as he was named to the Davey O’Brien’s Great 8 list as well.

It was one hell of an offensive performance for the Irish this past week an they will look to build on it this weekend as they once again hit the road to face off against Georgia Tech.

Notre Dame drops in latest Amway Coaches Poll

Notre Dame played up to their ranking but in the latest Amway Coaches Poll they dropped. Find out where the Irish are ranked now.

That was fun last night, wasn’t it? The Irish finally gave the nation no reason to complain about their top 3 ranking, but was it enough for them to stay in that spot?

Well, the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports Β showed that it wasn’t. The Irish fell one spot to No. 4, but this shouldn’t come as a surprise. In all honestly, this probably is a week late, but with Ohio State getting a fairly impressive win over Nebraska in their season opener, the Buckeyes jumped the Irish and Georgia.

Around the ACC, Clemson started off slow but ultimately beat Syracuse at home, North Carolina beat up North Carolina State in the only ranked matchup in the conference, while Miami, FL escaped with a win over Virginia. Wake Forest upset Virginia Tech, so movement for some of the ACC teams wasn’t surprising at all.

Here is the updated Amway Coaches Poll, with the ACC members in bold, and their rankings from last week in parentheses.

Watch: Notre Dame freshman tight end Mayer scores against Pitt

Michael Mayer, Notre Dame’s star freshman tight end, scores a touchdown against the Pittsburgh Panthers.

The hype is real for Notre Dame freshman Michael Mayer. The 5-Star recruit from Kentucky has lived up to his billing so far this season. He cashed in on this play from 14-yards out.

The touchdown for the freshman is the second of his career, expanding the Notre Dame lead to 38-3 in the third quarter.
