March Madness: Oklahoma vs. Missouri odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Missouri Tigers vs. Oklahoma Sooners odds and lines, with March Madness Round 1 picks and predictions.

The 9-seed Missouri Tigers (16-9) face off with the 8-seed Oklahoma Sooners (15-10) Saturday in the first round of the West Regional at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The tip-off is set for 4:25 p.m. ET and will be airing on TNT. Below, we analyze the Missouri-Oklahoma odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

Oklahoma struggled at the end of its season but slid into the Big Dance because it played in the winningest conference in the nation.

The Sooners has lost six of their previous seven games with the only winning coming against an Iowa State team that didn’t have a single conference win and they failed to cover eight in a row.

The Tigers alternated between winning and losing in each of the past seven games, are 3-6 SU and 2-7 ATS in the previous nine contests.

This is Missouri head coach Cuonzo Martin’s second NCAA Tournament appearance in his fourth-year on the job.

Oklahoma vs. Missouri: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Missouri 71, Oklahoma 66

Money line (ML)

PASS on the money line because the Tigers are the pick but why not take the point if it costs as much as Missouri’s money line? Obviously, we don’t want a Missouri 1-point loss but a push is better than a loss.

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

It would appear that MISSOURI +1 (-110) has been under-seeded in this tournament because it has a better resume than Oklahoma -1 (-110).

12 of Missouri’s games were played against teams in the NCAA Tournament and the Tigers started this season out 6-0 with victories including South Region 15-seed Oral Roberts (who just upset 2-seed Ohio State), Midwest Region 1-seed Illinois.

Don’t get me wrong, the Sooners have impressive wins too, but I’ll take the Tigers’ wins over them and, according to Ken Pom, Missouri is ranked 11th in experience.

Lastly, the sharp side of the market is barreling into Missouri, which has caused the Tigers to lose a point worth of value on the opening line.

GIMME MISSOURI +1 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Even though I like Missouri to win outright, Oklahoma’s defense will make it tough on the Tigers.

Missouri is a poor 3-point shooting team (ranked 259th in 3-point percentage) and gets to the free-throw line at the 37th-highest rate, but Oklahoma is 13th in defensive free-throw rate.

The Sooners do a really good job at packing the paint because of which OU is 61st in defensive 2-point shooting percentage but 354th in defensive 3-point shooting.

BET UNDER 138.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

March Madness: UConn vs. Maryland odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Maryland Terrapins vs. UConn Huskies odds and lines, with March Madness Round 1 picks and predictions.

The 10-seed Maryland Terrapins (16-13) meet the 7-seed UConn Huskies (15-7) Saturday in the first round of the East Regional at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana. The tip-off is set for 7:10 p.m. ET and will be airing on CBS. Below, we analyze the Maryland-UConn odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

UConn returned to the Big East conference this season and is back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 and Dan Hurley’s third season at the program.

The Huskies had a five-game winning streak snapped after losing to then-No. 17 Creighton in the Big East Tournament semifinals 59-56 as 2-point underdogs.

The Terrapins have lost three of their past four games (1-3 ATS), including a 79-69 loss to then-No. 4 Michigan in the quarterfinals of the Big 10 Tournament.

Maryland has made back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and it’s the fifth appearance in seven years under 10-year head coach Mark Turgeon. The Terps have won a game in three of their last four tournament appearances.

UConn vs. Maryland: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 8:10 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Maryland +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | UConn -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Maryland +3.5 (-110) | UConn -3.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 128.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

UConn vs. Maryland: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Maryland 63, UConn 60

Money line (ML)

Slight lean toward MARYLAND (+140) for a tiny wager since I like the Terps to cover the spread but if it’s one of the other, definitely take the points with the underdog.

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

MARYLAND +3.5 (-110) is slightly more experienced on the floor and Turgeon has a lot more tournament experience than Hurley.

Also, the Terps are 63rd in true shooting percentage (TS%), which accounts for free throws, and the Huskies are 208th in TS%.

Furthermore, Maryland figures to win the free-throw battle. UConn is 292nd in defensive FTA/FG rate and 203rd in offensive FTA/FG rate while the Terps are ranked 117th and 51st in offensive and defensive FTA/FG percentages.

Finally, according to Pregame.com, the market has steamed UConn up to laying 3.5 points after opening as a 2-point favorite. It’s generally more profitable to fade this one-sided of a market than follow it.

BET MARYLAND +3.5 (-110) 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Both teams play at a slow tempo, are much more efficient on defense and Maryland, in particular, has a lot of perimeter length, which will give UConn’s poor shooting offense a lot of trouble.

BET UNDER 128.5 (-105) for a half-unit.

March Madness: Michigan vs. Texas Southern odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Michigan vs. Texas Southern odds and lines, with March Madness Round 1 picks and predictions.

The Michigan Wolverines (20-4) take on the Texas Southern Tigers (17-8) in an East Region First Round game Saturday. Below, we analyze the Michigan-Texas Southern odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

Michigan wants to get back to the basketball it played from Nov. 25-Feb. 27 when a well-rounded Wolverine five went 18-1, outscoring teams by an average margin of 13.6 points. In five games since, UM is just 2-3. Michigan has struggled from the floor and fallen off in its normally strong rebounding over that stretch.

Texas Southern advanced to this game after defeating Mount St. Mary’s 60-52 in a Thursday First Four contest. TSU has won 10 straight games and is playing excellent defense. Over the win streak, the fast-tempo Tigers have held foes to a mere 38.0% mark from the floor.

Michigan vs. Texas Southern: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Michigan 86, Texas Southern 60

Money line (ML)

There was no money line available at the time of publishing. Due to the size of the spread, it wouldn’t be worth pursuing, anyway.

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

This is a mismatch without any real hook to hang a play on for either side. The Tigers can’t hang with Michigan from a physical standpoint, and it’s logical to expect a bounce-back game from a Wolverines squad looking to make a run and playing on a familiar floor.

Expecting a near-30-point win in a game with a likable Under is too much of a stretch.

Tag TEXAS SOUTHERN +26 (-110) with the lightest of leans.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is 15-9 in Michigan’s 24 games, and UM has tended to force lower scores in the pace clashes in the Big Ten. The Wolverines are without senior F Isaiah Livers (foot), and things swung the other way when Michigan played lesser fast-paced non-conference foes at the start of the season. Against Bowling Green, Oakland, and Ball State, the Over went 3-0.

A couple of UM’s recent losses were in very slow games, and the Maize & Blue may look to leverage their athleticism more in this match-up.

TAKE THE OVER 142.5 (-110).
