NFL.com says Eagles OC Mike Groh is emerging as a head coaching candidate to know

Mike Groh named a head coaching candidate to know by NFL.com

The NFL is a what have you done for me league and Black Monday — the day after the final regular-season game — usually includes a handful of firings.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport broke down the NFL head coach candidates to know before the carousel gets going and Eagles’ offensive coordinator Mike Groh landed on the honorable mentions list of “other guys on the radar.”

Th 48-year-old Groh started his NFL coaching career with the Bears where he was named the team’s wide receivers coach in 2013.

In 2016 the Los Angeles Rams hired Groh as their passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.

In 2017, the Philadelphia Eagles hired Groh to be their wide receivers coach.

After the 2017 season when the Eagles won Super Bowl LII, Groh was promoted to offensive coordinator to replace Frank Reich after he took a head coaching job with the Colts.

Doug Pederson calls the plays, but Groh has caught most of the flak in the media for the Eagles offensive struggles this season. The Eagles offense has improved over the past month and it’ll be interesting to see how much Groh played in the improvement.

Philadelphia Eagles rule out tight end Zach Ertz for game against the New York giants

Carson Wentz closing in on Eagles first 4,000 yard passing season

Carson Wentz 250-yards away from Eagles first 4K yard passing season

The Philadelphia Eagles don’t have the greatest lineage at the quarterback position, but one of the NFL’s gold standard franchises, the Birds have had their share of special signal-callers.

Donovan McNabb holds the majority of the Eagles single-season and career passing records at quarterback, but Carson Wentz is on his way to shattering every single record outside of rushing yards for a quarterback.

After two injury-plagued seasons, Wentz has taken that next step as an elite signal-caller and on Sunday, he’ll have the chance to lead the Eagles into the postseason, while becoming the franchises first 4,000-yard passer in a season.

Wentz sits just 250 passing yards behind Donovan McNabb’s 3,916 yards, set in 2008 season.

Making the accomplishment even more phenomenal, Wentz will likely accomplish the feat without having any wideout amass over 600 yards receiving.

Wentz almost completed the task during his rookie season in 2016, when he passed for 3,782 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Doug Pederson provides some insight into Eagles RB rotation with Jordan Howard returning

Doug Pederson says Eagles will continue to ride Miles Sanders hot hand

The Philadelphia Eagles have a predicament at running back, but its one that every team around the NFL would love to have.

Over the last five games, the Eagles running game has been carried by the rookie Miles Sanders, with Boston Scott filling in valiantly in relief. On Thursday, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said that running back Jordan Howard was set to meet with medical personnel in hopes of getting cleared for contact.

Howard hasn’t played since Nov. 3 due to a shoulder injury and if cleared, the potential for the Eagles to return to their thunder and lightning combo at running back presents itself.

On Thursday Doug Pederson presented a different outlook, revealing that Sanders is expected to remain the lead back even if Howard returns.

“I honestly don’t think much has to change,” Eagles coach Doug Pederson said on Thursday. “I think Jordan is a piece to the puzzle. He can obviously add depth, but Miles has been sort the hot hand here lately and we want to continue that going.”

Over the last five games, Sanders is averaging 117.6 total yards per game and four touchdowns. Expect the Eagles to continue to gashing defenses with Sanders and Scott, while utilizing Howard later in games and when the team needs a tough yard.

Howard is expected to be cleared to rejoin the Eagles lineup after missing five games, while Johnson could be a game-time decision with a high ankle sprain, although it’s more likely that he’ll return for a potential playoff run.

A California native, Cracraft played four seasons at Washington State and was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 Conference and honorable mention All-Freshman Team by College Football News.
