Doug Pederson uses Nelson Agholor as an example when discussing Jordan Mailata’s growth

Doug Pederson discussed the Eagles left tackle position and stated that if Jason Peters starts it would allow Jordan Mailata a chance to step back and see the bigger picture

The Philadelphia Eagles have a conundrum at the left tackle position and on Friday during his final zoom meeting of the week, head coach Doug Pederson had an interesting take on Jordan Mailata’s progress at the position.

Asked about Jason Peters potentially starting at left tackle, Pederson referenced back to a time when the Eagles had to take Nelson Agholor out of the lineup and how it allows a player to take a step back.

In Mailata’s defense, he’s spent the past three seasons watching and learning and at this point, playing is the only way for the young offensive linemen to fully absorb the nuances of the game.

Pederson’s words come on the heels of Mailata himself stating that being “benched” is a part of the game and he’s prepared to play left tackle, right tackle, or return to being a reserve offensive linemen.

Eagles TE Dallas Goedert is optimistic he’ll be healthy enough to play against the Cowboys

The Philadelphia Eagles could have Dallas Goedert back after breaking his ankle three weeks ago

The Philadelphia Eagles are patiently waiting to get one of the most dynamic pass catchers in the game back and Dallas Goedert is hopeful that his return will happen on Sunday night.

The Eagles star tight end had racked up 13 receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown before his injury early in the Bengals game. He’s hopeful that he’ll be able to play on Sunday but he’s taking the necessary precautions.

Goedert said that, in order for him to play, his ankle has to be strong enough to hold up while blocking in the run game or running a route.

“I’m feeling good. It’s been a blast being able to get out there with the team again, just see their faces a little bit more,” Goedert said after Thursday’s practice via The Inquirer. “When you’re on IR, you’re out of the building for a while. So it’s been good to see those guys. It’s just been a blast to be back. For Sunday, we’re still just day by day. I got to go out there, ran some routes with Carson today. But we’re still taking it slow, making sure everything’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

Goedert made it clear that he won’t play at “75 percent” and easily expose himself to being covered by Cowboys defenders.

Prior to his injury, Goedert was establishing himself as a top-7 tight end and the Eagles will need him healthy for a playoff run with Zach Ertz out indefinitely.

Report: Eagles WR Jalen Reagor expected to play against the Cowboys on Sunday night

Eagles WR Jalen Reagor expected to play against the Cowboys on Sunday night

[jwplayer oJ4ctDg4]

Despite not formally activating him off the injured reserve list, Geoff Mosher is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles will have stud rookie wide receiver, Jalen Reagor, available for Sunday night’s huge matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Reagor and Dallas Goedert have returned to practice after having their 21-day practice windows opened and the rookie wideout seems to be closer to actual game action.

Reagor was injured in Week 2 and has five catches for 96 yards this season, including a 55-yard reception in Week 1. On Sunday he could get the chance to take the field along with the No. 17 overall pick and a player he’ll be compared to for years to come in CeeDee Lamb.

Reagor’s addition, coupled with the stellar play of Travis Fulgham and consistency of Greg Ward, could give the Eagles a special trio of pass catchers for the stretch run.

Jason Peters returns to Eagles practice, takes first-team reps at LT

The Philadelphia Eagles appear prepared to start Jason Peters at left tackle upon his return to the lineup with Jordan Mailata at right tackle.

[jwplayer xKeOkv4n]

In a move that could draw the ire of some fans in Philadelphia, the Eagles seem prepared to start Jason Peters at his natural position of left tackle against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

During the Eagles’ first practice of the week, Peters was lined up at left tackle with the first team, while Jordan Mailata was the team’s right tackle in place of an injured Lane Johnson.

On Wednesday morning, Doug Pederson indicated that Peters would play wherever the team requested, but it appears the decision was made without any controversy.

Lane Johnson could return later in the week, but for now, it’s Peters, Nate Herbig, Jason Kelce, Matt Pryor at right guard, and Mailata at right guard.

With the Eagles focused on protecting Carson Wentz at all costs, Jeff Stoutland appears to be most comfortable with Peters protecting the franchise quarterback’s blindside going forward and not Mailata.

The week is just beginning.

Eagles Darius Slay omitted from a PFF ranking of the top 25 CB’s through Week 7

Darius Slay left off a PFF list of the top 25 CB’s through Week 7 of the NFL season

[jwplayer Pj21K9Ou]

The Philadelphia Eagles are defending the pass at a much better rate than they did in 2019 and a huge reason for their success centers around the acquisition of Darius Slay from the Detroit Lions during the offseason.

Slay has fared well in Jim Schwartz’s defense and he’s been solid in the running game as well from the cornerback position. Despite garnering respect from analysts league-wide and his peers, Slay still isn’t getting the love from Pro Football Focus.

In a ranking of the 25 highest graded cornerbacks in the NFL through Week 7, Slay was left off the list, while former Eagles and current Panthers cornerback, Rasul Douglas, landed at No. 21.

1. JAIRE ALEXANDER, GREEN BAY PACKERS — 90.8
21. RASUL DOUGLAS, CAROLINA PANTHERS — 70.7

Slay has allowed 27 catches on the season, tied for 10th in the NFL while being targeted 37 times on the season. Per PFF, Slay has a 65.9 grade in coverage and an overall grade of 65.7.

The Eagles star has allowed 277 yards at 10.7 yards per catch and he’ll enter Sunday’s matchup against Amari Cooper having only allowed just three catches for 38 yards during the pair’s previous meeting in Detroit last season.

Cooper caught a combined 10 passes for 130 yards against the Eagles in their two matchups last season.

Slay has been worth the money regardless of PFF’s grading system.

Eagles HC Doug Pederson on whether Jason Peters is willing to play right guard

Eagles HC Doug Pederson says Jason Peters is willing to play LT or RG

[jwplayer Zfji52oS]

The Philadelphia Eagles are getting healthy at the right time and with Jason Peters set to return to the lineup, Doug Pederson has a decision to make. During his Wednesday zoom session, Pederson was asked about Peters’s availability and where he might play.

Per the Eagles head coach, the future Hall of Famer will play wherever he’s asked.

Pederson hinted at how well Jordan Mailata has played at left tackle but from a strategic standpoint, was noncommital on where Peters would play as he returns to the lineup.
