Arizona vs Colorado Game Preview

Why Colorado Will Win

Enough already, Colorado. It’s time to get the running game going.

Arizona might be playing well, and it might be doing a great job of holding up at home, but it just got trucked by Cal a week after getting run over by North Dakota State in a big 31-28 Wildcat win.

The run defense didn’t have to deal with any sort of ground attack against Mississippi State, and San Diego State never got the O going in the opening day loss. North Dakota and Cal, though, figured it out combining for 637 yards and seven touchdowns over the last two weeks.

Colorado was finally able to get something going in last week’s loss to UCLA – throwing for 258 yards – but this week it has to start running, keep running, and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Arizona Will Win

Yeah, the running game. Arizona is about to have a good time.

The offense has mostly liked to wing it around with Washington State transfer Jayden de Laura going off – he hit Cal for 401 yards – but the ground attack has worked when it gets attention.

Colorado has the nation’s worst run defense by a mile. Playing against TCU and Minnesota will do that, but it hasn’t been able to figure anything out as it allows a nation-worst 323 yards per game and seven yards per carry.

The Wildcats will still try to win through the air, but the rotation of backs should be strong enough to take control right away.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Colorado won’t have it figured out quite yet.

It’ll come up with one of its better performances of the year, but the defense will let the offense down in the second half as Arizona goes on scoring drive after scoring drive to take over.

UCLA vs Colorado Game Preview

Why UCLA Will Win

Colorado just can’t get anything going.

The defense is bad, the offense worse, and neither side can do anything on third downs, the points aren’t there, and the run defense is the worst in the nation.

Other than that, everything is going great.

UCLA might be scuffling a bit – it needed a minor miracle to survive against South Alabama, and it got off to a rough start against Bowling Green – but it’ll be okay as long as it keeps everything simple.

Start running, keep running, rely on QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson to hit his third down throws, and there won’t be a problem.

However …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Colorado Will Win

Again, UCLA hasn’t exactly been playing great.

The overall stats are fine, but it had a night mare of a time putting away USA in the 32-31 win. The downfield passing game hasn’t been good enough over the first three games, the run defense didn’t hold up like it should’ve last week, and the secondary allowed the Jaguars to connect on too many midrange passes.

Yeah, Colorado has been a disaster, but is there anything going right?

On the plus side of having the nation’s worst run defense, the secondary hasn’t been bad – at least statistically. Against UCLA, selling out against the run should work. Minnesota and TCU were able to hit on their throws when they weren’t busy on the ground, but the Buff defensive backs really are a plus.

Week 4 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

It’s the Karl Dorrell bowl in every way.

The former UCLA head coach started strong at Colorado, had a rough 2021, and 2022 has gone very, very wrong. However, one big performance and a win might just change everything.

It’s not coming.

The lines are struggling too much, the run defense is too bad, and the playmakers have yet to show up. UCLA has the ability to underwhelm, but it’ll overcome another rough start to pull away.

Colorado vs Minnesota Game Preview

Why Colorado Will Win

So what’s working for Colorado at the moment?

Let’s just say it’s been a rocky 0-2 start to the season – losing to TCU and Air Force by a combined score of 79-23 – but the offensive line hasn’t been totally miserable when it comes to keeping the backfield clean, the three takeaways against Air Force were a start, and penalties haven’t been an issue.

More than anything else, the Buffaloes need Minnesota to show up with one of the flaky performances it has once in a while under PJ Fleck.

Last year the Gophers pitched an almost perfect game a 30-0 win over Colorado, and followed it up with a 14-10 clunker of a loss to Bowling Green.

There were plenty of struggles to start out 2019, the 2018 team had a hard time against Fresno State, and the 2017 squad had a hard time getting going against Buffalo.

The pressure is off Colorado. No one is expecting anything, Minnesota is suppose to win in a rout, and …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 3

Why Minnesota Will Win

If the Minnesota running game works like it’s supposed to, forget it.

Air Force is an outlier with its style – it ran for 435 yards and five touchdowns last week – but TCU gashed the Colorado defensive front in massive chunks, averaging over nine yards per carry.

Obliterating New Mexico State and Western Illinois isn’t anything to get chirpy about, but again, under Fleck those games aren’t always the layups they’re supposed to be.

However, the passing game has been fantastic, the ground game has pounded its way to over 600 yards and 12 scores in the two games, and it should all work against a Buffalo defense that has yet to show a thing.

That, and …

Week 3 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

The Colorado offense isn’t having a whole lot of fun, either.

Karl Dorrell is a good football coach and there are too many decent players for the team to be this awful. It’ll come up with a few early scores to make it look like something is about to turn, and then Minnesota will go on a pounding scoring march. And then another, and then another.

There’s no getting cute here. The Gophers will win on brute force.

Colorado vs Air Force Game Preview

Why Colorado Will Win

Okay, Colorado, very funny.

It was a disappointing opener against TCU, losing 38-13 with an offense that couldn’t keep things moving, couldn’t find a running game, and couldn’t get a push in the second half when the team was in the game.

However, it was the opener.

The team has decent parts, the attack has the ability to control the pace the the clock for long stretches, the defense has the secondary to hold up, and the front line has the upside to be much, much better than it showed against the Horned Frogs.

However …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why Air Force Will Win

Air Force isn’t the team you want to face when things aren’t going well.

Colorado wasn’t quite a mess against TCU, but it was far from crisp. The O couldn’t find anything that consistently worked, but the real problem was a run defense that gave up yards in massive chunks.

TCU averaged over nine yards per carry as it ripped off big run after big run.

Welcome to Air Force.

This is a veteran team that got 100-yard running games out of veteran back Brad Roberts and QB Haaziq Daniels – and the team cranked up 582 yards on the ground – in the 48-17 win over Northern Iowa, all while holding the ball for over 35 minutes.

Colorado will adjust, it has Pac-12 talent up front, and it doesn’t matter if the Air Force timing is down like it was over the first three quarters against UNI.

Week 2 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Colorado will be better.

Air Force is good, it’s going to be jacked to have this at home, and the running game will work, but the Buffaloes will adjust offensively from last week and spread things out a little more to be far more competitive.

And then Air Force will go on a 14-play, 84-yard scoring drive that eats up nine minutes.

CFN Week 2 Predictions
