Cardinals to face 5 of NFL’s top defensive tackles in 2022

They face Aaron Donald and Arik Armstead twice in addition to Chris Jones, Vita Vea and Javon Hargrave.

The Arizona Cardinals are no stranger to good defensive tackles as they face the Los Angeles Rams and Aaron Donald at least twice a year. He is the clear top defensive tackle in the NFL and might be the best of all time.

The Cardinals will face several top interior defenders in 2022. Based on the best interior defender rankings by Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar, the Cardinals will face five of the top 12 in seven games this coming season.

Chiefs LT Orlando Brown possibly might sit out Week 1 vs. Cardinals

The three-time Pro Bowler and the Chiefs have until Friday to come to an agreement on a long-term contract.

The Arizona Cardinals will host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 of the 2022 season. The Chiefs have had some major changes this offseason and are dealing with some contract drama with left tackle Orlando Brown Jr.

It is such that perhaps he might not play in the season opener.

The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Brown and have only until Friday afternoon to come to terms on a contract extension. Otherwise, he must play the season on the tag, which will pay him nearly $16.7 million in 2022.

However, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Brown and the Chiefs are not close to a deal and that, if there isn’t a deal, Brown isn’t expected to report for training camp. Garafolo said that playing in the season opener against the Cardinals isn’t certain, either.

Brown has been a Pro Bowler each of the last three seasons.

If he doesn’t play in the opener, that would increase the Cardinals’ chances of a season-opening upset.

Cardinals open as home underdogs vs. Chiefs in Week 1

The Cardinals are 3.5-point underdogs in their season opener against the Chiefs as lines open for Week 1.

The Arizona Cardinals will open the 2022 NFL season at home against the Kansas City Chiefs. It will be the first time Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury faces the Chiefs.

The Cardinals last faced Kansas City in 2018 and lost on the road 26-14.

It will be the first time that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is on the field again with Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury since both were at Texas Tech. Kingsbury was Mahomes’ head coach there.

Tipico Sportsbook released the lines and odds for Week 1 NFL matchups and the Chiefs are favored in the opener against the Cardinals.

The Chiefs are -160 the money line. That gives them 61.54% implied odds of winning the game outright. A $160 bet on the Chiefs would win $100 if they simply beat Arizona.

The Cardinals are +130 on the money line. That gives them 43.48% implied odds of winning the game. A $100 money-line bet on Arizona pays $130 if the Cardinals win.

The Chiefs are -3.5 (+102) against the spread. A $100 ATS bet on the Chiefs will win $102 if they beat the Cardinals by at least four points.

The Cardinals are +3.5 (-125) against the spread. A $125 ATS on the Cardinals pays out $100 if they win, tie or lose by no more than three points.

The projected total is set at 53.5 points, with the Over priced at -105 and the Under at -115. A $105 bet on the Over wins $100 if the Cardinals and Chiefs score a combined 54 points or more. A $115 bet on the Under wins $100 if they score a combined 53 points or less.

Between the regular season and postseason the Cardinals were 11-7 straight up, 10-8 against the spread and 8-10 O/U.

The Chiefs were 14-6 straight up, 10-10 ATS and 12-8 O/U.

Cardinals’ 2022 schedule features 4 revenge/reunion games

Their games against the Chiefs, Raiders, Saints and Vikings are revenge or reunion games for someone on either team.

Every season, there are games on the NFL schedule that are reunion or revenge games. Teams let players go in free agency or cut them.

This year is no exception. The Arizona Cardinals have let players go or cut them who will face them this season.

Of their 17 games, there are four revenge/reunion games, where a player is facing a previous team for the first time since their departure, or in reuniting with a player or coach for the first time.

Below are those such games for the Cardinals.

The 6 games WR DeAndre Hopkins will miss in 2022 with PED suspension

See which games DeAndre Hopkins will miss because of his PED suspension.

The Arizona Cardinals’ 2022 regular-season schedule has been released. It has four prime-time games. They open at home and play their final two on the road.

However, because wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins tested positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance back in November, he is suspended for the first six games of the season.

That presents a huge challenge for the Cardinals, who struggled done the stretch last season when Hopkins missed time with a hamstring injury and knee injury.

He will return to play the New Orleans Saints in Week 7 on Thursday Night Football.

Now that we know the full schedule, we know which games he will miss.

They are listed below.

Kyler Murray vs. Patrick Mahomes in Week 1 at State Farm Stadium

We will see Kyler Murray face Patrick Mahomes in the Cardinals’ season and home opener and face them without DeAndre Hopkins.

The Arizona Cardinals announced their home opener ahead of the official 2022 NFL schedule release. They will start the season at home with a big interconference game.

They will play at home in Week 1 and face quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday Sept. 11 at 4:25 p.m. ET (1:25 p.m. Arizona time).

The Cardinals will be without receiver DeAndre Hopkins as that will be the start of his six-game suspension for PED use.

The game will feature two of the top young quarterbacks in the game — Kyler Murray for the Cardinals and Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs.

It will be the first time Mahomes will face his former college head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, who was head coach at Texas Tech before becoming Arizona’s head coach in 2019.

Mahomes is 1-0 in his career against the Cardinals. He and the Chiefs defeated Arizona 26-14 in 2018. Mahomes had 249 passing yards and two touchdown passes. It was his second-lowest passing outlook of the season.

Since Murray was drafted and Kingsbury became head coach, the Cardinals have not faced the Chiefs.

It will be a huge challenge for Arizona, as they will face a team that has been to two Super Bowls and four consecutive AFC Championship Games. If they can somehow come away with a win in the opener, it could set the tone for the season the way their big road win over the Tennessee Titans did last year, which was the catalyst for a 7-0 start.

Kyler Murray: Chiefs ‘kicked our butts’ while Cardinals’ starting offense played

Cardinals QB Kyler Murray did not talk to the media after the game but did assess the offense’s performance on the television broadcast.

The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10 Friday night in the preseason. But if you look at the starters, the Chiefs won 3-0.

The Cardinals starting defense kept the Chiefs out of the end zone, holding them to a field goal and then intercepting a Patrick Mahomes pass in the end zone.

But the Cardinals’ starting offense was terrible. They lasted three drives and did not pick up a first down, going three-and-out on all three possessions. They netted minus-1 yards. Kyler Murray was 1-of-4 passing for two yards. He had one eight-yard run but he was also sacked twice and fumbled once, although the fumble was recovered by offensive lineman Josh Jones.

Murray was not available to speak to the media after the game but he did make an assessment of his and the offensive starters’ performance on the sideline with ESPN’s Lisa Salters.

“Not the outing we had hoped for,” he said on the television broadcast. “But it is what it is. Doesn’t count. Look forward to the regular season starting in a couple weeks.

“I just think we’ve gotta clean some stuff up, get some things right. They kicked our butt for the three drives we were out there. It is what it is. We’ll be better when it counts.”

Murray said earlier in the week that he wasn’t really a fan of preseason games because they don’t count. You don’t play a full game and the outcome doesn’t matter.

However, the lack of production raises concerns that they will not be sharp once the season starts. Their Week 1 opponent, the Tennessee Titans, have a potent offense. If the Cardinals come out at the start and score no points on their first three possessions, they might possibly already face a big deficit.

But Murray is confident things will be fine. After all, he did not have receiver DeAndre Hopkins, tight end Maxx Williams or two of his projected starting offensive linemen.

They have three weeks to get things right. Their season opener is in three weeks.
