Former Wolverine takes shot at Michigan football program, Jim Harbaugh

Former Wolverines great Jake Long noticed Juwan Howard’s leadership for the Michigan Basketball program. He wishes their football had that.

Hey, it’s time to check in on our rivals. Because, well — it can be fun to see what’s happening at TTUN.

It’s a good one this time too. Former Wolverine great Jake Long noticed Juwan Howard’s leadership for the Michigan Basketball program, and he apparently wishes the football program had the same culture, somewhat taking a shot at Jim Harbaugh.

Prior to taking on Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans, Howard touched on how he’s taken a back seat at times and humbled himself in order to improve.

Long decided to quote tweet the video and approve Howard’s statement.

He also put that “Our football program should take some notes.” That implies that head coach Harbaugh hasn’t quite taken that step in his leadership. Here’s exactly how the couple tweets were phrased.

Michigan Football ended the season 9-4. IT were absolutely obliterated by the Alabama Crimson Tide without its star quarterback, a bad look for the program that desperately wants to take that next step.

It’s on Jim Harbaugh. He has the talent, and Harbaugh must find a way to exploit teams and opponents better.

But to have former players call it out is not an ideal situation. Yikes.

Ohio State football welcomes early enrollees for 2020 class via Twitter

A few early enrollees for the 2020 Ohio State football recruiting class have moved to campus. Ohio State welcomed them on Twitter.

Ohio State’s 2019 football season came to a premature end (queue the flashbacks), but it’s already time to turn the page to the 2020 season. And in the world of big-time college football that’s exactly what happened over the weekend.

A few of the highly rated Buckeyes’ 2020 recruiting class is enrolling early, and it was time to move in and “come home.” Here’s a look at what some of the future OSU players looked like on Twitter as they backed the U-Haul up to the banks of the Olentangy to start the next chapter in their football careers.

Hopefully we can look back on some of these and reminisce about a class that made Ohio State football memorable.

Here is defensive back Lejond Cavazos checking in.

And here’s his tweet on his own.

Quarterback Jack Miller, defensive back Ryan Watts and Julian Fleming also hit campus together.

There will surely be more move in over the next few days, but for now, some of the best of the best are starting to hit the ground running at THE Ohio State University.

Watch Ohio State wrestling coach Tom Ryan talk about big meet vs. Arizona State

Ohio State head wrestling coach Tom Ryan spoke to members of the media to preview the big dual-meet with Arizona State.

The Ohio State wrestling team is still trying to figure itself out. There have been injuries and guys still fighting and competing for spots that will ultimately determine what kind of season this team will have.

But in some ways, head coach Tom Ryan has to work on the car while driving it because there’s still competitive meets to make it through in order to position the team in a place for the postseason.

On that note, Ohio State has a big one Monday night at home against No. 4 ranked Arizona State at the posh Covelli Center. It’s a dual meet that’s nationally televised and extremely important for the confidence of this Buckeye squad.

Ryan took some time to meet with a few members of the media to discuss where his team is, where it’s going, and to preview the matchup with the Sun Devils.

You can watch thanks to the official Twitter feed and website of Ohio State wrestling. Just click on the below and have a watch. And if you want to catch the dual meet on television, tune into FS1 at 7:00 PM.

Ohio State men’s hockey downs Army in OT

The Ohio State men’s hockey team continued its winning ways by taking down Army in an overtime thriller in Vegas.

While some football and basketball shenanigans have been going on, very quietly the Ohio State men’s hockey team has been putting together a pretty good season. The team was 12-5-2 heading into a contest vs. Army in the Fortress Invitational in Las Vegas Saturday night, and hold a national No. 6/7 ranking.

So yeah, there’s more than football and basketball going on folks and it might be time to take notice.

The Buckeyes kept it going again last night in a thriller too. They fell behind early to Army in the first period, but then evened things up when Tanner Laczynski lit the lamp on a shorthanded goal in the second period. From there, it was a defensive struggle that went to overtime.

From there, just 1:17 in, senior Carson Meyer got one past the Black Knights goalie to win in dramatic fashion.

The win improves the Buckeyes’ record to 13-5-2. They are next in action against Wisconsin on the road Friday at 9:00 PM.

Ohio State football 2019 departure tracker

We’ve got your tracker of what players Ohio State is losing this year to graduation and early departures, and who decided to come back.

Ohio States’s football season is over, but that just means we’re starting to turn the page on who will return, who graduates, but most importantly, which players who are eligible for the draft after three years will come back and be a Buckeye or decide to head to the NFL.

At this point we’ve heard from everyone that had that decision to make, so we know what the coaching staff will be working with next year. So you can keep track of it all in one spot, here’s who’s leaving because of graduation, who’s coming back, and who has decided to forgo another year and enter the NFL Draft.

We’re just going with key players to, not deep into the depth chart. So here we go.

Lost to Graduation:

Binjimen Victor – Wide-Receiver
K.J. Hill – Wide-Receiver
Austin Mack – Wide-Receiver
Jonah Jackson – Offensive Line
Robert Landers – Defensive Line
DaVon Hamilton – Defensive Line
Malik Harrison – Linebacker
Jordan Fuller – Safety
Damon Arnette – Cornerback

Early Departure Staying:

Josh Myers – Center
Wyatt Davis – Right Guard
Thayer Munford – Left Tackle
Drue Chrisman – Punter
Shaun Wade – Cornerback

Early Departure Leaving:

Jeff Okudah – Cornerback
Chase Young – Defensive Back
J.K. Dobbins – Running Back

That’s it for the key players from the 2019 season. The early departures were expected, while some of the ones that were coin-flips resulted in Ohio State getting some much needed experience and talent back.

All in all, it’s a win for Ohio State heading into next year. Getting three guys back on one of the best offensive lines in the country, as well as having Shaun Wade for another year should make this team one of the best in the country again next year.

Nick Bosa finalist for NFL Rookie of the Year

Former Ohio State and current San Francisco 49er Nick Bosa is a finalist for the NFL’s Rookie of the Year Award.

Former Ohio State and current San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa has been nominated for the NFL’s Rookie of the Year Award. Bosa has taken the league by storm after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

He finished the year with 47 tackles, nine sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one interception. More than anything, he remained healthy and productive all season after having struggling injuries during his career at Ohio State.

Bosa’s competition for the rookie of the year include the Raiders Josh Jacobs, A.J. Brown of the Titans, Kyler Murray of the Cardinals, and Miles Sanders of the Eagles.

The winner will be determined  by a fan vote that closes on January 20 at 3:00 PM, so get out there and give Bosa the award he deserves.

Ohio State with the most participants of any team in the All-American Bowl

Ohio State had a whopping nine players taking place in the Army All-American Bowl Saturday, the most of any program.

The Army All-American Bowl took place in San Antonio Saturday and there were a slew of future Buckeyes running around on both sidelines. In fact, there were a total of nine Ohio State commits — the most of any program — taking place in the game.

Alabama was second with seven, followed by Clemson (6), and Texas A&M (5). So who are the high school studs that suited up for the game today that will eventually be wearing scarlet and gray? Here’s your list.

Paris Johnson, Jr. – Offensive Tackle
Jaxon Smith-Njigba – Wide-Receiver
Gee Scott, Jr. – Wide-Receiver
Lathan Ransom – Safety
C.J. Stroud – Quarterback
Luke Wypler – Offensive Guard
Cody Simon – Outside Linebacker
Kourt Williams – Outside Linebacker
Josh Fryar – Offensive Guard

Yes, you could say the future at Ohio State is awfully bright. Plug these guys into what’s already in the cupboard and things should be in good shape for the next few years.

And they said Ryan Day couldn’t recruit.

Ohio State football commit Paris Johnson Jr named All-American Bowl Man of the Year

Ohio State Football commit, Paris Johnson Jr., has been named the All-American Bowl’s Man of the Year.

Ohio State Football commit, Paris Johnson Jr., has been named the All-American Bowl’s Man of the Year. Johnson Jr. is the No. 1 rated offensive lineman in the Class of 2020 and was one of Ohio State’s first commits.

One of the Buckeyes’ few five-star recruits, Johnson will be joining Southern California’s Julian Fleming as the top recruits for Ohio State’s elite inbound class.

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, and playing at Princeton High School, Johnson is a huge 6-foot-7,pounds 300 pounder. He is a top-200 all-time prospect according to 247 Sports. He is also the No. 1 rated player from the state of Ohio and a top-ten national prospect.

It’s fitting that such a player was awarded as the All-American Bowl’s Man of the Year for his work on and off the field.

This makes two-straight years a Buckeye commit has won the honor, with receiver Garrett Wilson being recognized last year.

Johnson Jr. should have an immediate impact on Ohio State’s line, one that can only marginally get better this upcoming season. The Buckeyes line helped allow J.K. Dobbins to have an absolutely incredible season.

With Paris Johnson Jr., they may be even better this coming season.

He’s obviously ready and so is Buckeye Nation.

Ohio State football way too early 2020 projected two-deep depth chart

The early departures are in and it’s time to look at a projected two-deep depth chart for Ohio State football in 2020.

Okay, here we go. The season is over, and already the competition begins for next year’s depth chart. We will of course go through this exercise multiple times in the off-season, but it’s fun to look at where things might stand as we move on under Ryan Day.

Here’s a very, very early look at Ohio State’s roster, and who might be penciled in with the two-deep as the new year turns. Disclaimer — it’ll change multiple times as we go through the process of getting a new team ready for competition in the spring and ultimately the fall.

Quarterback

1. Justin Fields**
2. Gunnar hoak

Of course Fields has things locked down, the real question will be who his backup is. Gunnar Hoak has one more year and knows the offense, but watch out for four-star commits C.J. Stroud and Jack Miller who will both be deep in the competition.

Running Back

1. Master Teague
2. marcus crowley

Dobbins is off to the NFL with one of the best single-seasons in Ohio State history. The big and strong Teague got the majority of the reps as the clear No. 2 this year and looks primed to be the guy in 2020. Crowley struggled with injuries last season but has the talent to be a part of things. Steele Chambers will also factor in.

Next … the pass catchers

BREAKING: Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade coming back for fourth year

Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade has announced his intentions of returning to Ohio State rather than entering the NFL Draft.

Ohio State got some good news today with the announcement that cornerback Shaun Wade is returning for his junior season. The announcement was made via live stream by Lettermen Row Saturday and will help boost a secondary that’s already losing Jeff Okudah, Jordan Fuller and Damon Arnette.

Wade didn’t get as much publicity as others in a much-improved back-end for Ohio State, but as a third year sophomore, Wade’s absence in the lineup was noticeable at key times this year. The defense wasn’t quite as dominant against Michigan early on, and after he was called for targeting in the first half of the Fiesta Bowl.

Wade finished the year with 25 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and one interception in 2019.
