Ohio State provides player availability, injury status report for Purdue game

Ohio State #Buckeyes provide player availability, injury status report for Purdue game

The Ohio State Buckeyes will be kicking off against the Purdue Boilermakers at 3:30 today to continue their fight for the Big Ten Championship game and the College Football Playoff. Despite being almost a three touchdown favorite, the Buckeyes are not likely to fall asleep at the wheel against a Boilermakers squad that has taken down two giants within the top five this season including #3 Michigan State last weekend.

With that said it is good to see that Ohio State is more healthy than usual and star wide receiver, Garrett Wilson is back and expected to start and return to his elite form immediately. The following is who was listed on the availability report:

Game-Time Decisions

  • DB Marcus Hooker

Unavailable Buckeyes

Ohio State vs. Purdue Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

Ohio State #Buckeyes vs. Purdue Boilermakers: Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

The Ohio State Buckeyes are continuing their run for the College Football Playoff this Saturday in a match-up against the Purdue Boilermakers in Columbus at 3:30 p.m. EST. The Buckeyes are coming off of an extremely close victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 26-17, and will be looking to provide some style points for the CFP Committee.

Purdue has had a weird and inconsistent season so far, but it currently sits at 6-3 and is coming off a blow-out upset over the then No. 3 Michigan State Spartans, 40-29. A common term being thrown around is a trap game, but does that still apply if the team trapping you has already beaten two top-five opponents?

The staff at Buckeyes Wire has some interesting takes this week and hopefully we have a more accurate take considering all three of us predicted large Ohio State wins last week.

Does Lou Holtz believe Ohio State can beat Georgia, CFP worthy?

Does Lou Holtz believe Ohio State can beat Georgia? Are the Buckeyes CFP worthy? #GoBucks

The Georgia Bulldogs have separated themselves from the rest of the country. If you listen to the national media, it’s Georgia at No. 1, then everyone else. And to be fair, Kirby Smart’s crew has looked better than anyone else with a dominant defense that’s hard to move the ball against.

There have been many ask whether or not any team can even beat Georgia. It seems like the same question that’s asked almost yearly about Alabama. Oh,   and by the way, last year notwithstanding, the Tide lose a game almost every year.

But back to Georgia. One person that’s weighed in on who can beat the Bulldogs is former Notre Dame all-timer coach Lou Holtz. He touched on teams he believes can beat the Bulldogs, and you might be happy to know that he threw Ohio State into the ring, along with — of course — Alabama. And he believes there’s a glaring weakness that can be exploited.

I think quarterback might be a question for them against a good team,” Holtz said. “I think Alabama is capable of beating Georgia. I think Ohio State is capable of beating them. I don’t think many other teams in the country are.”

Like almost everyone else with an opinion (us included), Holtz then went on to pick his College Football Playoff teams as it stands right now. Once again, he singled out Ohio State.

“I think you have to go Georgia number one, I’d go Alabama number two – although they seem to be more vulnerable this year than other years in the past,” Holtz continued. “I think No. 3,  I’d go with Ohio State, I think number four Oregon – Oregon has been very inconsistent. The only time they played a complete game was against Ohio State, they beat them. If they run the table, they’re going to make it. The team that I think that [isn’t] really receiving the recognition they deserve is Oklahoma. It is true that Oklahoma won six of their first eight games by 12 points or less but once they went to the freshman quarterback [Caleb] Williams, they’ve been a different football team.

“Oklahoma…plays Baylor this week, Iowa State next and then finishing up at Oklahoma State, they have a chance to move in the top four. And I think you have to put Cincinnati in there although Cincinnati was very, very fortunate to beat Tulsa last week.”

You can listen to the entire exchange between Holtz and Buckeye Nation’s favorite enemy, Mark May.

Now, before you get too excited about Lou Holtz highlighting Ohio State as a team to beat, remember that he grew up in East Liverpool, Ohio, and was an assistant in Columbus under Woody Hayes.

Still, it’s nice to see someone that knows about the game signaling out the Buckeyes as a program that has the skill and ability to go out there and have a chance to win it all.

Ohio State tight end Sam Hart latest to lose black stripe

Ohio State freshman officially welcomed into the brotherhood. #GoBucks

Midway through the season, the Ohio State football team has officially welcomed another member into the brotherhood. This time coming in the form of Sam Hart, a three-star tight end from Colorado.

Hart committed early in the recruiting cycle all the way back in 2019. He ended up being rated the No. 16 tight end in the 2021 class according to 247Sports composite rankings. Hart was the only tight end in the Buckeyes 2021 class of recruits.

Listen to what Hart had to say after being officially welcomed.

“I just want to thank ya’ll for welcoming me into the brotherhood. I want to thank the defense, the tight end unit, coaches get me better every day, pushing me. Go Bucks!”

With depth at the tight end position, Hart won’t be in the plan for this year. But with some continued work, he could become a presence in the future.

Joshua Perry discusses why Ohio State beat Alabama in inaugural CFP title game

Joshua Perry has an interesting take on Urban Meyer’s drive and why Ohio State was able to beat Alabama and take home a national title in 2014.

The Ohio State football program will always be the answer to a trivia question many other teams would like to have been a part of. Whenever anyone asks who won the first-ever College Football Playoff championship game, the answer is your Ohio State Buckeyes.

But remember, OSU almost didn’t make it there. After an early loss to Virginia Tech, the Buckeyes were written off. However, Ohio State just continued to get better and better and ended up squeaking its way into the CFP and winning the whole thing.

Former Ohio State linebacker Joshua Perry discussed that season and the so-called “Chase” the team tagged on their quest to beat Alabama on the most recent Glory Days: Dreams and Nightmares podcast. As a Buckeye fan, you know most likely know the podcast well, but Perry and fellow teammate, former receiver Evan Spencer detail the 2014 season when OSU made that highly improbable and unlikely run to the national title.

As a part of Wednesday’s segment, Perry talked about the reason Ohio State was able to beat Alabama, and it had everything to do with former Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer’s obsession to detail. We have of course heard stories about how intense and driven Meyer was, but Perry opened up about a little-known fact of why he believes OSU was able to not only make it into the playoff but to chase down the Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl.

“He became obsessed with the hand placement,” said Perry of Meyer. “He came back, and he said, ‘I was down there on the field watching them in pregame, and I watched their D-line warm up, and those guys, they strike better than anybody and their hands are quicker and their hands are always inside. They got perfect technique, and their thumbs are up and their elbows are in.’ And he said, ‘We don’t have a guy who can strike like that.’”

“We came out in that offseason, and before we could do contact and really put our hands on each other, we had two-by-fours that were taped together to practice the hand position,” Perry said. “Just the inside hands, like your hands were on the outside of the two-by-fours. That’s how tight your hands are supposed to be. Elbows in. And then we start doing that every day in practice with our pads on. (Meyer) would go down the line, and he would basically watch all the skill-position guys strike one another, and it was like a competition to see who could get their hands inside and who could re-set their hands.

“And then coach Anthony Schlegel developed an actual apparatus that you can attach to a weight rack in the weight room to practice what we called ‘The Difference.’ It was such a point of obsession that (Meyer) named it ‘The Difference.’ The difference between Alabama and Ohio State was how the (expletive) we struck each other, how our hands worked.

“That was the obsession, but that’s why Urban’s an elite coach is he’ll take something that nobody would really think of that would be the difference between a national title contender and the actual champion is just the hand placement and being obsessed about it.”

You can watch this short segment on your own via the Glory Days: Dreams and Nightmares YouTube channel.

This is some of the inside information you get from Perry and Spencer during an inside look to that season and we’re all for it. If you haven’t check out the podcast for yourself, we highly encourage you to do so.

WATCH: What Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm said about Ohio State leading into the game Saturday

Listen to what Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm said about Ohio State leading into the game Saturday.

Ohio State is back at home to host a Purdue team that knows it has what it takes to knock off some quality opponents this season. After all, the Boilermaker already have wins over Iowa and Spartans Wire, both of which were unbeaten when the black and gold went toe-to-toe with them.

But this is most likely a bigger challenge than those two. The Buckeyes have more talent in the league than anyone and can beat you several ways. On top of that, Purdue has not won in Columbus since 1988 because you know the fans in the ‘Shoe will be working to give Ohio State a boost if they can.

Boilermaker head coach Jeff Brohm met with his media this week to preview the Buckeyes and he had some outstanding things to say about OSU. In case you missed any of his comments, you can click on the below video from the Journal and Courier and listen to him discuss how quickly Ohio State can score points, what a talented team the Buckeyes are, the challenge of his team going to Columbus, and more.

Ohio State and Purdue will kick off at 3:30 p.m. EST Saturday with ABC having the call.

How to watch, stream, listen to Ohio State vs. Purdue

Everything you need to know to listen and watch Ohio State football as Purdue comes to Columbus.

We’re getting down to the wire as we’ve reached the stretch run in November. Every week matters when it comes to college football and that’s why we love the sport so much.

This week, Ohio State gets the Purdue Boilermakers who are looking to spoil yet another team’s playoff hopes. Purdue has already knocked off No. 2 Iowa and No. 3 Michigan State this season and looking for more. Of course, the Boilers have more incentive than just playing giant killer. They still have an outside shot of representing the Big Ten West in the Big Ten Championship game.

A stretch of three straight ranked opponents begins Saturday when Purdue comes to town and the Buckeyes know there is zero margin for error.

Five reasons Ohio State beats Purdue Saturday

Five reasons the Ohio State #Buckeyes beat the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday

The Ohio State Buckeyes had another week where they looked a little underwhelming and disappointing on offense, but still earned the win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 26-17. Going into the weekend, Ohio State was largely viewed as a two-touchdown favorite over Nebraska, but barely edging out the Cornhuskers by nine points apparently didn’t scare off the College Football Playoff committee as the Buckeyes are now ranked in the top four.

This week Ohio State will be welcoming in the giant killers that are the Purdue Boilermakers and kick-off will take place at 3:30 p.m. EST in venerable Horseshoe. The Buckeyes will look to avoid the same fate as the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Michigan State Spartans, but it will take a better effort than last week. Here are five reasons why Ohio State will come away with the win on Saturday.

Ohio State basketball vs. Niagara: How and where to watch and listen to the game Friday

Ohio State basketball takes on the Niagara Purple Eagles in the second game of the season.

When a team loses experience and scoring power in the backcourt as Ohio State did this off-season with the departures of Duane Washington Jr and C.J. Walker, some growing pains can be expected. The No. 17 Buckeyes experienced just that as they eeked out a win over Akron on Tuesday evening on a last-second bucket.  Chris Holtmann’s squad should have an easier go of it when they host Niagara Friday night at the Schott.

Malaki Branham looks like a star in the making. Holtmann showed trust in the true freshman who didn’t start the game but had the ball in his hands in the final seconds before finding an open Zed Key for the game-winner. I mean, if you’re going to ask to wear Jimmy Jackson’s No. 22 after it’s been hanging in the rafters for the past 20 years… well, let’s just say, the kid believes in himself. And that’s a good thing.

On to the Purple Eagles for a Friday night tilt.
