Oh, and on top of it all, the Bears face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Podcast: Breaking down the Bears’ 2023 schedule

We break down the Bears’ 2023 schedule, going game-by-game to share our way-too-early predictions, on the latest episode of our podcast.

The Chicago Bears unveiled their 2023 schedule, which features plenty of intriguing games and quarterback matchups.

In addition to facing their NFC North opponents twice, the Bears will face the AFC West and NFC South, which includes home games against the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, as well as away games against the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints.

With Chicago finishing fourth in the NFC North, they’ll also face the same-place finisher in the NFC East and NFC West. With that additional 17th game, they’ll face the AFC North same-place finisher, Cleveland Browns, on the road.

Chicago will open the season at home for the second straight year, where they’ll welcome the Green Bay Packers to town. With Aaron Rodgers now with the New York Jets, Jordan Love will make his debut in the rivalry. The Bears will also close out the regular season against the Packers — this time at Lambeau Field.

Despite a disappointing 3-14 season in 2022, the Bears will be featured four times on prime time: Week 5 at Washington Commanders, Week 8 at Los Angeles Chargers, Week 10 vs. Carolina Panthers and Week 12 at Minnesota Vikings.

On the latest episode of our Bears Wire Podcast, host Ryan O’Leary (@RyanO_Leary) and myself (@AlyssaBarbieri) break down Chicago’s 2023 schedule, where we go game-by-game and share our too-early predictions.

Podcast: Breaking down the Bears’ impressive 2023 draft haul

Our NFL draft recap episode is here, where we’re breaking down Ryan Poles’ impressive 2023 haul.

The 2023 NFL draft is in the books, and the Chicago Bears welcomed 10 new rookies to the roster. It was an impressive second draft from general manager Ryan Poles, who filled some big needs.

The biggest addition was offensive tackle Darnell Wright, who they traded back one spot and still landed — on top of a 2024 fourth-round pick from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chicago also plugged some defensive holes with defensive tackle Gervon Dexter and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson in Round 2 and defensive tackle Zacch Pickens in Round 3.

But it’s their Day 3 haul that impressed many around the league. They laned some potential late-round gems in running back Roschon Johnson and wide receiver Tyler Scott in the fourth round, as well as linebacker Noah Sewell and cornerback Terell Smith in the fifth round and defensive tackle Travis Bell and safety Kendall Williamson in the seventh round.

On the latest episode of our Bears Wire Podcast, host Ryan O’Leary (@RyanO_Leary) and myself (@AlyssaBarbieri) recap the 2023 NFL draft, including discussion about the Darnell Wright pick, Day 3 steals and more.

The 2023 NFL draft is right around the corner, where the Chicago Bears are finalizing their draft board before the selections get underway in Kansas City next Thursday.

After trading the No. 1 pick to the Carolina Panthers for a haul that included two first-rounders, two second-rounders and wide receiver DJ Moore, the Bears are sitting with the ninth overall pick, along with nine additional selections.

There are several directions Chicago could go with the No. 9 pick, including offensive tackle, best player available or even trading back a second time in the first round and racking up more draft capital.

Podcast: Are the Bears all in on Justin Fields?

While Justin Fields will no doubt be QB1 in 2023, are the Bears all in on Fields moving forward?

There was plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Bears quarterback Justin Fields, which was the price of landing the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.

But general manager Ryan Poles silenced those trade rumors when he traded the top pick to the Panthers.

While Fields will no doubt be Chicago’s QB1 in 2023, does it mean the Bears are all in on Fields moving forward?

At the very least, Chicago is all in on Fields in 2023, where the intent is to build a better roster around the third-year quarterback. The team traded the top pick for two first-rounders, two second-rounders and wide receiver DJ Moore.

There’s been a concerted effort to build around Fields — with skill position players and shoring up the offensive line — so the Bears can get a true evaluation of Fields.

But, at the same time, the Bears have positioned themselves to be prepared if Fields doesn’t pan out. They’ll have an additional first-round pick in 2024 if they need to draft a quarterback. But the hope is that selection will be used to shore up the roster around Fields if he takes that next step in his development.

Bears Wire Podcast host Ryan O’Leary (@RyanO_Leary) and myself (@AlyssaBarbieri) discuss whether the Bears are all in on Fields after their offseason moves. Fields discussion begins around the 13:14 mark:

Bears Wire Podcast: Breaking down the blockbuster trade with Panthers

We’re breaking down the Bears’ trade with the Panthers on the latest episode of our Bears Wire podcast.

The Chicago Bears kickstarted free agency with a blockbuster trade that sent the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft to the Carolina Panthers.

It was a move that general manager Ryan Poles had teased could very well happen before the start of free agency, and he was able to get a deal in place that allowed him to focus on the rest of the offseason.

Not only did the Bears land two first-round picks (including the No. 9 pick this year) and two first-rounders, but they also acquired wide receiver DJ Moore in the process.

Moore is a bonafide No. 1 wide receiver that quarterback Justin Fields has been missing, and he joins a receiving group that also includes Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool.

While reports have surfaced that Poles could’ve traded back twice inside the top 10 — had he waited — there’s no doubt that Poles made the right move with this trade.

Following the first wave of free agency, host Ryan O’Leary (@RyanO_Leary) and myself (@AlyssaBarbieri) break down the blockbuster trade with the Panthers and crack open a six pack of questions on the latest episode of the Bears Wire Podcast.

Bears Wire Podcast: Our final Year 1 grades for Ryan Poles, Matt Eberflus

We’re sharing our grades and evaluations of first-year GM Ryan Poles and HC Matt Eberflus in the latest episode of our Bears Wire Podcast.

The Chicago Bears wrapped their first season under general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus. While the result wasn’t pretty — a 3-14 record and a 10-game losing streak — there’s hope for the future. And this season certainly won’t define Poles and Eberflus’ tenures in Chicago.

You’ve got to respect Poles for coming in here and tearing the whole roster down, which had to be done to start rebuilding. He parted ways with aging veterans (Eddie Goldman, Danny Trevathan) and traded players that weren’t part of the plan moving forward (Khalil Mack, Roquan Smith, Robert Quinn). While it gave Chicago the most dead money in the NFL this year, it also helped pave the way for north of $100 million in salary cap space in 2023.

Eberflus inherited a less-than-ideal situation with a young and inexperienced roster that wasn’t built for success this season. Still, Eberflus got the most out of a talent-deficient roster, where his team was competitive with even the league’s best squads.

On the latest episode of our Bears Wire Podcast, host Ryan O’Leary (@RyanO_Leary) and myself (@AlyssaBarbieri) share our final Year 1 grades for Poles and Eberflus, as well as discuss which players are deserving of contract extensions this offseason.
