New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons Game Preview

Why New Orleans Saints Will Win

Where are the guys? Where’s the talent on Atlanta?

It’s an interesting mix of players full of youth and potential, but it might take a little bit.

There’s not going to be much of a Falcon running game to worry about when Marcus Mariota isn’t taking off, and the defense that allowed the fourth-most points in the NFL now gets a revamped Saint attack that added a – maybe – healthy Michael Thomas and Chris Olave to the receiving corps.

The defense has the secondary to clamp down on the mediocre Falcon receivers – at least until Drake London gets going – and again, there’s not enough of a running game to make up for it. However …

Week 1 CFN NFL Expert Picks

Why Atlanta Falcons Will Win

Don’t be stunned if Mariota is dangerous.

He’s got the experience and ability to at least keep the chains moving, and he’s going to have to pull a few rabbits out of the hat to keep things moving.

On the other side, the Falcons need to get the pass rush going right away. The Saint offensive front is questionable going into the season – it’s fine, but not amazing – and the running game might not be there if Jameis Winston isn’t finding ways to spread the short-range passing game around.

There’s one problem …

Week 1 NFL Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Atlanta isn’t really going to have much of a pass rush.

New Orleans might not be all that flashy, but it’ll be effective enough offensively to go along with a nasty defense that’s going to hammer down on anything Atlanta tries to do through the air.

The Falcons will have a few nice moments helped by three interceptions, but the offense won’t do enough to capitalize on the chances.

WATCH: Top highlights from Kyle Pitts’ rookie season

Check out all of the best plays from Kyle Pitts’ impressive rookie season with the Atlanta Falcons

It’s rare to see a tight end selected in the top five of the NFL draft, but Kyle Pitts is no ordinary player.

A dominant superstar at Florida, Pitts impressed the Atlanta Falcons enough for them to spend the No. 4 overall pick on him in the 2021 NFL draft. He quickly lived up to the hype, proving himself to be the matchup nightmare the Falcons were hoping he would be for opposing defenses.

Pitts topped 1,000 yards receiving as a rookie, flashing the rare athleticism that should quickly make him one of the most formidable pass-catchers in the entire league.

Relive his impressive rookie season with some of Pitts’ best highlights from last year:

Meet the Atlanta Falcons’ 2022 NFL draft class

Check out every pick for the Atlanta Falcons from the 2022 NFL draft

The Atlanta Falcons went into the 2022 NFL draft in full rebuilding mode, having moved on from some of the most iconic faces in franchise history over the past two seasons.

After trading away both Julio Jones and Matt Ryan, the Falcons enter a new era under head coach Arthur Smith, with a new starting quarterback for the first time in more than a decade.

The Dirty Birds are still searching for their identity, and this year’s draft gave them a chance to load up on young talent that will reflect that philosophy moving forward.

Here are all of the Falcons’ picks from the 2022 NFL draft:

Why Falcons fans should be excited about Arnold Ebiketie

Breaking down what Penn State pass rusher Arnold Ebiketie brings to the Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons went into the 2022 NFL draft with huge needs at multiple positions on both sides of the ball, and none more pressing than at the edges of their defensive front.

After opting to help the offense with their top-10 selection in the first round, the Dirty Birds turned their attention to that edge defender spot to kick off their Day 2, spending the No. 38 overall pick on Penn State’s Arnold Ebiketie.

An explosive edge rusher with a knack for making big plays once he gets to the opposing quarterback, Ebiketie was projected by many to be a first-round talent, making him a potential bargain for the Falcons in the second round. Even in a class loaded with talented edge rushers, Ebiketie could have easily found himself among the top 32 picks.

His wait will be Atlanta’s gain, as the Falcons grabbed a dynamic sack artist who immediately becomes their most dangerous threat to the passer. He has the technique and pass-rushing moves to make an immediate impact, even if he’s eased into the speed of the NFL game as a rotational player in his rookie season.

It shouldn’t take long for Ebiketie’s pass-rushing prowess to earn him full-time snaps for the Falcons, and his ability to knock the ball loose and create takeaways should be a welcome addition for a defense that’s desperate for more big plays.

Traditionally and statistically, Day 3 of the NFL Draft is a total wasteland. You’re far, far better packaging your picks to move up into the top three rounds of a future draft – the odds of getting a consistently decent starter are shockingly small.

But every team thinks it can make magic out of the Day 3 mess of prospects, and it’s worth a shot to dumb-luck into a possible mainstay. What are the remaining needs that need to be filled for each team? Here are every team’s picks so far with the possibilities of who they could get.

Of course this all blows up once the trades start flying, but the idea is to give a rough snapshot of what each team might be able to do.

Kyle Pitts is already living up to the hype

The No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Atlanta Falcons rookie tight end Kyle Pitts is already looking like a superstar

It’s easy to understand anyone who raised an eyebrow at a tight end going No. 4 overall in the 2021 NFL draft.

But to simply call Kyle Pitts a tight end would sell the Atlanta Falcons phenom short.

“Playmaker” or “offensive weapon” are more suitable for the rookie superstar, who is already making the kind of impact the Falcons were hoping for when they made him a top-five selection back in April.

His performance in Sunday’s last-second win over the Miami Dolphins was just the latest example of Pitts putting his rare skill set to good use. Pitts led the Falcons with seven receptions for a whopping 163 yards, averaging 23.3 yards per catch.

And he did it in style:

With Julio Jones gone, the Falcons were banking on Pitts being able to replace his impact on the offense. Those are huge shoes to fill, but Pitts is off to an incredible start.
