2022 College Football Schedules: All 130 Teams

The February version of college football National Signing Day doesn’t have the hold on the sport like it used to – it’s the landline phone line in a 5G world – but it closes out the recruiting season.

Sort of.

Some programs were already done recruiting back in December, but everyone is always pitching and holding on to their own guys with the transfer portal a bigger deal now.

Why bother with a whole slew of young prospects when you can go shopping and get the mature guys you need?

But recruiting high school players is still a big deal for your base.

No, not everyone is going to transfer, and no, you can’t live off of getting guys through the portal. You need the cake to put the transfer portal frosting on.

Texas A&M destroyed it this recruiting season. Shock of shocks, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, Penn State – the normal big guys did big recruiting things. But you knew that.

What teams off the normal recruiting radar crushed it this season? More to the point, which schools and coaching staffs bounced back massive after a mediocre 2021?

5. Stanford Cardinal

It certainly helped a wee bit that USC and Oregon are in a transitional period and need a year or so to get back up to speed in the high-end recruiting world, but it’s not like Stanford is competing for the same guys as the rest of the Pac-12.

David Shaw’s 2020 class wasn’t bad, but the 2021 haul was a bit lacking.

There were a few nice parts, and the Cardinal always gets a star lineman or two, but it missed the WOW factor for a program that started to fall off. After a 3-9 season coming off a four-win 2020 – granted, there were only six games – and 4-8 2019, the reciting class needed guys.

Shaw hasn’t done a whole lot in the transfer portal, but he did what he must for the program and got the right guys from across the country for the right spots.

When Stanford rocks, its lines are dominant and the running game works. In come the infrastructure players with both lines improving, Sam Roush out of Tennessee is a top tight end, and he’s got two terrific-looking offensive tackles in Lucas Heyer and Fisher Anderson.

Again, it’s different because some programs aren’t quite there yet, but Stanford had one of the best recruiting runs in the Pac-12.

Arizona State vs Arizona Game Preview

Why Arizona State Will Win

Yeah, Arizona State is having a whole slew of problems scoring, but it hasn’t been too awful defensively and it needs to slow things down and make this into a grind.

Arizona just got roasted by UCLA thanks to a bad run and a cold shooting day, and Arizona State has to make that continue.

The Wildcats couldn’t get to the free throw line against the Bruins and struggled from the field – especially from three. If Arizona State can keep the fouls to a minimum and somehow keep Arizona from doing anything from the outside …

NFL Mock Draft: First 1st round mock

Why Arizona Will Win

Yeah, Arizona State can’t score.

There’s nothing happening from three – the Sun Devils hit the 30% mark from the outside just once in the last 11 games – and the offense as a whole has a hard time getting to 40% from the field.

No one moves the ball around like Arizona does, and no one is better on the boards. Arizona State can’t make the extra pass and it’s not going to do anything on the offensive glass to generate second chance points.

AP college basketball top 25

What’s Going To Happen

It’s not like Arizona is going to take it easy on Arizona State.

The worst thing that could happen to the Sun Devils is Arizona’s UCLA loss. Expect the Wildcats to come out roaring from the start and make this all but over by halftime with a big run in the first ten minutes.

Arizona State vs Arizona Game Preview

Why Arizona Will Win

It’s the bowl game, the jumpstart to 2022, and the revenge game all in one.

Arizona might not have the guys, and it’s hammered by injuries and a lack of depth, and it’s losing defensive coordinator Don Brown to the UMass head coaching gig, but it continues to battle really, really hard.

The results aren’t there, but the team will push for a full four quarters.

Arizona State has been ultra-inconsistent.

It’s got the guys, it’s got the talent, and it has a run of three losses in the last five games with the running game hit-or-miss and with the passing attack not whit doing what it’s supposed to.

To do this, Arizona needs a whole slew of takeaways. Arizona State has given away the most turnovers in the Pac-12, but …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 13

Why Arizona State Will Win

As long as the Sun Devils don’t royally screw up, they should be fine.

Again, Arizona just doesn’t have the personnel. It doesn’t move the ball easily enough, the offensive line allows way too many plays behind the line, and the about those ASU turnovers …

Arizona doesn’t take the ball away. The team is dead last in college football in turnover margin with just six takeaways.

Arizona State can maintain a decent offensive balance and control the game on the ground early on. There’s no need to take any big chances.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

What’s Going To Happen

70-7. As long as Arizona doesn’t lose like it did last year, it’ll be a measure of success moving forward.

The effort will be there and the Cats will pull out every possible trick and stop, but they’ll get down early, will have to press a bit, and that’s when the turnovers will come.

It’ll get a bit out of hand for a stretch, but Arizona will score a few fourth quarter points and no, it won’t be 70-7.

Arizona vs Washington State Game Preview

Why Arizona Will Win

Arizona has been beaten up in a rebuilding year under Jedd Fisch, but it’s been battling really, really hard.

The team has hardly packed it in.

It managed to get a win over a depleted Cal team, but it played relatively well in last week’s loss to Utah, pushed USC, and it gave Washington all it could handle. It’s been the type of team and season that would have a whole lot more success with more time, more maturity, and more consistency.

Yeah, the Wildcats are 1-9, but five of the losses were by nine points or fewer. There have been too many mistakes in key moments, but there weren’t any turnovers for the first time all year in last week’s loss to the Utes, the penalties have slowed a wee bit, and …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

Why Washington State Will Win

Here comes the Washington State passing game.

The Arizona run defense hasn’t been all that bad lately, and there’s no worrying about the ground attack in this. Washington State is going to do what it does – it’s going to throw and keep throwing.

The Cougar offense hasn’t blown up since beating Oregon State in the middle of the year, but quarterback Jayden de Laura should get plenty of time to work, he’ll hit the midrange throws against this group, and the O should control the clock.

Arizona allowed 200 yards or more passing yards in four of the last five games.

NFL Expert Picks: CFN Week 11

What’s Going To Happen

Once again, Arizona is going to fight the good fight, but the turnovers will return.

And that’s the team’s main problem. Again, it can stay close in games, but being a -14 in turnover margin on the season is a killer. The O really has been a bit better at controlling the screw-ups, but the defense isn’t helping with no takeaways in four of the last five games.

Washington State will be +2 in turnover margin. The expected weather in the 30s with a mix of rain and snow won’t help.

Results So Far ATS: 62-48-1

After a rocky run it’s time for a road trip to shake things up a bit.

This week we go west for most of the 10 best predictions against the spread. There’s a reason for this – there are a TON of good-looking matchups – Nevada shouldn’t be an underdog against San Diego State and Utah State will probably beat San Jose State outright.

But first come the tried and true foundation selections.

While the picks have been up-and-down over the last few weeks – fewer games to choose from and less big spreads to exploit like there are in September – the overall record is still solid because of four core beliefs.

If you’ve been with the program, you know by now that …

1. Always go over on a point total in the mid-30s. Too many things can go right, unless it’s Army-Air Force, which once again proved to defy all laws of logic and reason.

2. Always go under on a point total in the mid-70s. Too many things can go wrong, like a torrential downpour late in the Pitt-North Carolina game.

3. Always take the underdog if it’s getting 45 points or more. Games can be blowouts without being brutal.

Over the long haul, if you stick with those three principles you should be okay – as long as you’re using good judgment, like going over on the Wednesday night Central Michigan-Kent State insanity.

Two of the three are foundations are represented this week, and there’s a fourth tried and true belief that – if you’ve been with this all year – has done you a big-time solid.

We kickoff our trip out west by making a stop at the fourth core belief for 2021. You ALWAYS go against …

10. Kansas at Texas

LINE Texas -31
ATS PICK Texas

Full disclosure – I wouldn’t come near this if it didn’t involve Kansas, but as the man said, you dance with the one that brung ya.

Oklahoma couldn’t get the job done against Kansas against the spread a few weeks ago, but that’s been it. 1-8 ATS – including not covering the +24 in a 35-10 loss to Kansas State last week – to continue an epic heater of a run going back to the beginning of last year.

Texas is a mess.

It completely lost its stuff ever since that fourth down run by Caleb Williams halfway through the loss to Oklahoma. However, as bad as things look, the five teams Texas has lost to – at Arkansas, Oklahoma (in Dallas), Oklahoma State, at Baylor, at Iowa State) are all terrific.

How many times as Kansas lost by more than 31? Three in the last seven games.

Whatever. It’s Kansas, there’s a spread, and we stay on the ride until it stops for good.

So that’s one of the staples. Another foundation pick …

CFN Week 11 Experts Picks: College

9. New Mexico State at Alabama

LINE Alabama -51.5
ATS PICK New Mexico State

Besides the gimmicky aspect of always taking the underdogs with a point spread this high, this actually isn’t a bad call.

Of course New Mexico State will get annihilated – it lost 62-10 to Bama back in early 2019, hence the number – but this version can actually score a little bit.

No, it’s not going to keep up, but all you’re looking for are 10-to-14 points, and the Aggies can do that.

Mercer got 14 on this Tide team back in September. Southern Miss got rolled 63-14. Neither one of those games pushed past the 51.5, and New Mexico State is better.

As always with these picks, think of it this way – you’re walking into the stadium up 51-0. It can be a total wipeout – like 63-14 – and you’re fine.

Keeping with the weekly foundations, the over.

CFN Week 10 Experts Picks: NFL

8. Minnesota at Iowa

LINE 37 Point Total
ATS PICK Over

Last week in the exact same spot I said the exact same thing.

Too many things can go right with a low 37 point total, like one team can get the job done all by itself.

Last week here at the 8: Wisconsin 52, Rutgers 3.

Minnesota scored 41 against Northwestern. Before that it scored 34 against Maryland and put up 31 on Nebraska on the way to hitting the 30-point mark six times so far.

The problem is Iowa.

This team just doesn’t score. Something is wrong if you’re beating Northwestern 17-12, and yes, I demanded you go over on the low point total against Wisconsin. Both teams sort of decided they were done early in the fourth of a 27-7 Badger win.

It’s a point total of 37, and it’ll probably drop.

Before going west, two ACC games.

Utah vs Arizona Game Preview

Why Utah Will Win

Arizona has been crushed by injuries.

On the plus side in a rebuilding year under first year head man Jedd Fisch, a whole slew of young parts are getting meaningful time. On the down side, it took everything possible to get by a Cal team missing more than 20 players in a 10-3 win last week.

The Arizona offense is having an impossible time moving the chains, it’s taking way too much effort to put points on the board – only getting past 19 once this year – and it’s not getting help in any way from turnovers and big plays.

The Wildcats are last in the nation in turnover margin.

Utah has the Pac-12 South there for the taking with wins over Arizona State and UCLA, and now it just has to close strong needing to win two of its last three games – the fire will be there to put this away fast.
