Alabama (18-5) vs Arkansas (17-5) Game Preview

Why Alabama Will Win

The offense keeps on working.

The defense isn’t always great, but the offense is able to bail the team out by scoring more. The threes aren’t always falling lately, but the O still finds ways to keep scoring. It’s one of the best teams in the nation from three, the scoring comes in bunches and is great at making life easier on the boards, and …

The defense actually is great.

It give up a few too many points, but it’s great from three, it’s phenomenal at taking care of the ball, and it’s great at clamping down when it absolutely has to.

Why Arkansas Will Win

Arkansas has the style and the attack to keep up.

It didn’t happen the first time around in a 90-59 loss in Tuscaloosa back in mid-January, but the Hogs lead the SEC in scoring margin because it rebounds everything, hits just about everything on the inside, and it moves the ball around incredibly well.

This is a different team than the one that got housed by the Tide over a month ago. It’s shooting a whole lot better than it did through a midseason mini-slump with the ability to go on a big run or two to keep the pressure on.

What’s Going To Happen

Be mad if this isn’t a wild and crazy shootout.

Alabama will do its part, and Arkansas will do the same at home even though the threes aren’t going to be dropping.

Alabama’s two worst scoring games since mid-December – the two times it’s been under 70 points – were in road losses to Missouri and Oklahoma over the last few weeks. The Hogs aren’t going to hold Bama down, but they’ll do enough to pull off a massive resumé win at home.

Alabama (17-5) vs Vanderbilt (6-11) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

The Commodores have to hit their threes. When they do that, they’re okay. When they don’t, forget it.

At least over the last few weeks, they were good from the outside against Mississippi State and South Carolina and won both games, and couldn’t do anything from three in the other games and lost.

They keep chucking them, and they make a lot because they’re usually in comeback mode, but if they can somehow slow things down and hope Bama is off after not playing for a week.

Why Alabama Will Win

Vanderbilt just doesn’t score enough.

The Crimson Tide keep on coming with an offense that was just getting sharper when the short time off came.

They’re amazing from three, they’re amazing at generating easy points off of steals, and they’re grabbling rebounds in bulk, especially on the defensive end.

Vanderbilt doesn’t have the consistent pop to hang in the 80s, and the defense has a big problem bothering outside shooters – that’s a deathblow when Bama  gets on a roll.

What’s Going To Happen

The Tide lost two of their previous five games coming into this, but they’ve been a rock at home with only a loss to WKU back in mid-December.

Vanderbilt, though, is just good enough to not get obliterated. They’re not going to be able to keep up in the second half, but they’ll score a bit late after Bama coasts across the finish line.

Alabama (16-5) vs Georgia (12-7) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Georgia Will Win

The team can shoot.

It’s hit-or-miss from three – too often miss – but it’s great at getting to the basket and comes up with a whole lot of points off of defensive big plays.

The Bulldogs are 9-1 when hitting 48% or better from the field, and it’s going to keep on firing and keep on pressing the foot on the gas. On the flip side, the Alabama O has gone strangely cold over the last few weeks. It’s struggling from the outside and hasn’t hit 40% from the field in three of its last four games.

However …

Why Alabama Will Win

Georgia almost HAS to hit 48% or better to win.

In 12 SEC games, Georgia is 4-1 when making 48% or more of its shots, and is 1-6 when it doesn’t.

Alabama hasn’t allowed anyone to hit 48% from the field in SEC play. the defense is solid in field goal percentage and it cleans up everything off the misses.

Georgia might force a ton of mistakes, but Bama leads the SEC in steals and should come up with a bazillion against a mistake-prone Dawg O.

What’s Going To Happen

Expect a fun game.

Alabama has lost two of its last three games, but they were both on the road and the offense went cold in both games against Oklahoma and Missouri. Everything will get going again in a good win against a Georgia O that’s going to be strong, but won’t be quite hot enough.

Alabama (15-5) vs South Carolina (5-7) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Alabama Will Win

After a great winning run, Alabama has lost two of its last three games and both were on the road – this is the third road trip in 11 days.

Even with the two losses, it took a fantastic effort by Missouri to get by on Saturday, and Oklahoma cranked up one of its stronger performance of the season – considering the circumstances – in a tough fight.

South Carolina doesn’t have the stuff that OU and Mizzou have.

The Gamecocks don’t shoot a whole lot from three and they don’t hit a bunch of them, either. They don’t move the ball around well and don’t come up with enough rebounds when they miss, and Bama will take care of that.

Why South Carolina Will Win

The Gamecocks have had their moments, though, from three.

No, they’re not all that accurate from the outside when they do actually bomb away, but overall they’ve been able to hit at least 40% from the field in four of the last five games.

Bama has a bit of a turnover problem, it hasn’t been able to do much from the field over the last games – it hasn’t hit 40% in three of its last four games – and while it’s a stretch to say the team has gone into dog days sort of funk, it hasn’t been playing its best.

What’s Going To Happen

South Carolina will be the cure for the Alabama malaise. The Crimson Tide will hit the threes that USC won’t, and they’ll come up with enough second half points to pull away after an entertaining first half.

Alabama (15-4) vs Missouri (12-3) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Alabama Will Win

The Crimson Tide got back on track.

They were rolling through the SEC season before getting tripped up in the cross-conference matchup against Oklahoma. The offense worked just fine in the win over LSU, and now it gets a Missouri team that makes way too many mistakes, doesn’t move the ball around all that well, and should have problems against the aggressive Bama D that forces a ton of steals.

The Tigers don’t do enough from three if this gets into shootout, but …

Why Missouri Will Win

The Mizzou D is great at getting out on shooters. The Crimson Tide don’t need to hit from three to win, but they shoot it more than just about anyone else from the outside and make more from three than anyone in the SEC.

Missouri’s defense is strong at harassing shooters, few teams in the conference play better overall D, and it as the ability to keep scores low and close enough to stay in range at home. When its own three are falling, forget it.

Combine a good shooting day with this defense, and it finds ways to win.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s going to be a terrific game.

Missouri grinds more than it rolls, but it finds ways to win games by doing just enough good things at the right times – and that includes hitting free throws …

But not lately.

Alabama has ben better on the line than Mizzou has over the last few games, and it’ll make up for a rough game from the outside with just enough plays on the defensive boards and transition points to get out alive with a fantastic road win.

SEC College Football Recruiting: Team Rankings, Top Players, Biggest Strengths, What’s Missing

How did all of the SEC teams do in the 2021 recruiting season? The SEC recruiting rankings, stars, top players, biggest strengths.

How did all of the SEC teams do this recruiting season? Here are the recruiting rankings for the conference, along with the stars for each team, top players, and biggest strengths.

2021 SEC Recruiting Rankings, Breakdown

No, really. How good were the SEC classes this 2021 recruiting season?

SEC East

1. Georgia Bulldogs

The bar is set at a ridiculously high level for Georgia recruiting, and Kirby Smart and his staff hit it. There’s the normal array of four and five-star guys with a little bit of something for every spot, but it’s all about Brock Vandagriff. If he’s not the best quarterback recruit of the 2021 season, he’s close. As long as he’s close to being as good as advertised, this is a class to keep the program’s national title expectations high.
2021 Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Scenarios

2. Florida Gators

It’s not as good a class as the last few, but it’s close enough. No, this isn’t as strong as what Alabama and Georgia brought in, but it’s more than fine for what it needed to do. There isn’t a superstar quarterback signing – Carlos Del Rio is a good prospect, though – and there isn’t a ton for the skills spots, but the defense is loading up with a slew of excellent defensive backs to throw at the pass D problem.
2021 Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Scenarios

3. Tennessee Volunteers

It’s not nearly the class of 2020, but considering all the craziness, all of the changes, and all of the uncertainty, it’s a terrific group coming in. Josh Heupel didn’t get a chance to do much of anything, but the former staff got the job done to load up with a slew of strong offensive talents who should thrive under the new regime.
2021 Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Scenarios

What’s Missing | 2021 All-SEC Recruiting Team

4. Missouri Tigers

It might not quite be the best recruiting class since Missouri joined the SEC, but it’s not all that far off after Eliah Drinkwitz got a full year to hit the recruiting trail. The pass rush got the most help with a tremendous group of ends, the secondary got more bodies, and Tyler Macon is a dangerous dual-threat quarterback who should be a perfect fit for what the coaching staff wants to do.
2021 Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Scenarios

5. Kentucky Wildcats

It’s okay. Kentucky never lands the elite of the elite talents, and it’s good at succeeding in a recruit-to-a-type sort of way, but this isn’t as strong as the 2020 class and there are a few holes. The 2022 class has to focus more on the defensive line and offensive backfield, but that’s being a bit nitpicky. The receivers are nice, the defensive backs are sneaky-solid, and for what UK does, it’s a fine group.
2021 Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Scenarios

6. Vanderbilt Commodores

Who comes up with a strong recruiting class after a coaching change? Most of the work was done by Derek Mason and the former staff and new head man Clark Lea picked up from there. It’s a big class that might be the program’s best in several years starting with a whole lot of very good prospects for the defense. WR Quincy Skinner is one of the stars of the class, but this group is put together to lock down the other side of the ball.
2021 Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Scenarios

7. South Carolina Gamecocks

It’s a rough class mostly because of 1) the midseason coaching change and 2) the bigger classes in the previous years. The hope is for QB Colten Gauthier to make this small group great – if you can find a strong SEC starting quarterback, the class is made – but there’s no real star power. The other odd thing? There’s not a lot from South Carolina with just three in-state players signing.

2021 SEC Rankings: Pre-Spring

SEC East

1. Georgia Bulldogs

Why To Be Happy: There’s a nice group of players returning to set the foundation for what should be a stronger year. Start with JT Daniels settling the quarterback situation, continue with RB James Cook and OT Jamaree Salyer to go along with all the high-end receivers and defensive talents returning, and most the players are there to get to the College Football Playoff.

What To Work On: The offense has to be better in the bigger games. The defense was strong all season and will be again, but the O wasn’t consistent enough, especially against Alabama, Florida, and at least on the ground, against Cincinnati.

Bottom Line: Win the SEC East, Georgia. Considering all of the big replacements being made at Alabama, there’s no reason to shoot for anything less than a conference championship.
2021 Georgia Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Case Scenarios

2. Florida Gators

Why To Be Happy: The Gators might be losing a ton of the key 2020 parts, but several very, very nice prospects are coming in to ease the pain. Clemson RB Demarkcus Bowman was a huge recruit, as were Auburn DT Daquan Newkirk and LSU TE Arik Gilbert. Emory Jones adds more mobility to the quarterback position, and enough starters return on defense to be okay. However …

What To Work On: No, really, Kyle Pitts was Heisman-caliber good numbers-wise. Yes, part of the reason the Gators flopped against Oklahoma was the lack of the star receiver talent, and now TE Kyle Pitts and WRs Kadarius Toney and Trevon Grimes are gone.

Bottom Line: The Gators are going to reload in a hurry and could be even more dangerous if the receivers rise up right away. However, going into spring football they look like they might be a step or two behind Georgia.
2021 Florida Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Case Scenarios

3. Missouri Tigers

Why To Be Happy: There were losses in the transfer portal, but the Tigers got plenty of wins. They might have lost star LB Nick Bolton to the NFL, but they picked up a very, very good safety-sized playmaker in Blaze Allredge from Rice. Plug him into the lineup, and with the return of tackles Kobie Whiteside and Markell Utsey for their senior-plus seasons, and now …

What To Work On: The defense has to be a whole lot stronger than it was at the end of the season. Solid at times, it couldn’t handle the bigger boys on the slate and then it all melted down over the last three games.

Bottom Line: RB Larry Rountree is gone, but almost everyone else is back on O, almost everyone is back on D, and head coach Eliah Drinkwitz had a year to get things in place. Mizzou is about to make a jump.
2021 Missouri Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Case Scenarios

4. Kentucky Wildcats

Why To Be Happy: QB Terry Wilson might be transferring out, but the offense might be more dynamic with either Joey Gatewood or Beau Allen under center. With leading receiver Josh Ali coming back the passing game should be solid, and …

What To Work On: Kentucky loses enough good players to matter. P Max Duffy, LB Jamin Davis and CB Kelvin Joseph are just a few who’ll be missed, the O and D lines need a slew of replacements, and …

Bottom Line: Kentucky will still be Kentucky. It’ll have its style on both sides that will work just enough to be a bother. There will be just enough missing to be a contender, but no one will grind harder or better.
2021 Kentucky Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Case Scenarios

5. Tennessee Volunteers

Why To Be Happy: Not everyone entered the transfer portal. The Vols were able to bring in Virginia Tech’s talented QB Hendon Hooker and … uhhhhh … Hooker is good. Getting Cade Mays back for the offensive line is terrific, and the defensive front returns enough veterans to be a potential plus.

What To Work On: The offense has got to start moving the ball better. It was a disaster on third downs and everything fell flat except against the weak and the sad. Also, the defense has got to start coming up with third down stops.

Bottom Line: Okay … so almost everyone is apparently entering the transfer portal, but that should change and possibly reverse now that things have settled a bit after hiring Josh Heupel. If nothing else, the offense is about to be a whole lot more fun. No matter what you think about the hire, Tennessee has a direction.
2021 Tennessee Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Case Scenarios

6. South Carolina Gamecocks

Why To Be Happy: The program is going to get time to grow and get the young parts working, starting with RB Kevin Harris and – most likely – QB Luke Doty behind an O line that might not be all that bad. The new coaching staff has been active on the transfer portal with a whole slew of reinforcements coming in.

What To Work On: Find a passing game right away. Harris is going to be options 1, 2 and 3, but being more dangerous down the field is a must for an offense that sputtered and coughed throughout the second half of the season. The offense needs a higher-octane identity.

Bottom Line: You wanted Will Muschamp gone. Done, now the rebuild begins under Shane Beamer. There’s going to be a “no one believes in us” factor with the Gamecocks for 2021 – the pressure is off. The starting 22 should be okay with a little more help.
2021 South Carolina Schedule Analysis, Best & Worst Case Scenarios

7. Vanderbilt Commodores

Why To Be Happy: Yeah, a slew of Commodores are in the transfer portal, but most of the key ones didn’t play big roles in 2020 after being a bigger part of the 2019 team. Vandy went young, suffered through the problems, and now returns experienced in a few areas to hope for a quick improvement.

What To Work On: Scoring. The Commodores scored 21 points or fewer in eight of their nine games and 17 or fewer in seven of those. Go back to 2019 and the program has scores 17 or fewer in 13 of their last 17 games.

Bottom Line: New head coach Clark Lea has a massive task ahead of him with a total overhaul of a program that went 2-18 against FBS teams over the last two seasons.

Alabama (14-3) vs Oklahoma (10-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Alabama Will Win

The Crimson Tide have been fabulous from the field over their ten-game winning streak, they’re great from the line, and they  proved in the win over Kentucky that they can win even when they’re not on from three.

Few teams in America shoot or make more threes than Alabama, and they’re going to keep on firing away. Bomb from three, come up with a slew of steals, and put the pressure on the other side – it’s working.

For all of the good things Oklahoma is doing, it’s nothing special at stopping the three – teams are hitting 34% from outside on the Sooner D. But …

Why Oklahoma Will Win

OU is more than happy to get into a three-point shooting contest with anyone. The Sooners don’t shoot as many as Alabama, but they have no problems bombing away. They’re good enough on the offensive boards and they’re just good enough on the inside, too, to score in a variety of ways.

Yes, Alabama is one of the best teams in the country at forcing steals and mistakes, but OU is just as strong. It’s the best team in the Big 12 at forcing turnovers, the Tide will make their share of errors.

What’s Going To Happen

These two are similar in a whole slew of ways, but Alabama does what it does a bit better than Oklahoma does what it does.

However, the Sooners are outstanding at home, they’ve been consistent, and they have the style to survive the barrage of offense that always comes from this Tide team.

The 2021 SEC football schedule was released. There’s anger, excitement, and a whole lot of looking ahead to what should be a full schedule again this fall as if 2020 never happened.

Here are five things about the schedule that matter including who misses the big teams from the other division, the non-conference analysis, the one big difference in this year’s slate, the winners and losers, and starting out with …

5.  Who gets the rested teams?

There was a time not all that long ago when SEC teams took an Alabamacation.

You have the Crimson Tide on the schedule? Okay … just make sure you get a week off to rest up and get ready first. In the end that time off usually didn’t matter much, but that’s changed now.

Every SEC team has one off week and one light scrimmage against an FCS or some other cream-filled pastry of a paycheck game, but this year, that easy date isn’t always coming before a key SEC date. That matters, too – sometimes it’s nice to get a few easy games to gear up.

2021 Alabama Football Schedule

Alabama Crimson Tide Football Schedule Analysis: It’s just difficult enough to expect a loss if the Tide aren’t 2020 amazing with four landmines – Miami, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn – away from Tuscaloosa, and throw Mississippi State in there.

It’s a ten-win slate just by this team showing up, but four of the first seven games are away from home. Get through that clean, and it’s smooth sailing going from October 23 until the finish without leaving the great state of Alabama.

Best Case Scenario: 12-0. It’s Alabama, so going unbeaten is a real expectation – obviously. Get through Miami and Florida early on, survive the likely shootout against Ole Miss, and don’t bog down against Texas A&M. The week off comes at the perfect time in late October.

Worst Case Scenario: 10-2. It’s going to take something special to beat this team once, much less twice, but in this case, the Tide lose at Florida and/or Texas A&M, and drop another date against an improved LSU or in a wacky firefight against Ole Miss or Mississippi State.
