Alabama vs Vanderbilt Game Preview

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

The Commodores are finding ways to win.

They got down against Northern Illinois, but roared back last week in DeKalb to win 38-28. They pushed past Elon, destroyed Hawaii, and weren’t that awful in the 20-point loss to Wake Forest.

The offensive line is doing a great job of keeping defenses out of the backfield, the passing game has been stunningly efficient, and there’s an outside shot the offense can grind a bit and make Alabama press.

The Tide are obviously amazing, but the defense has only forced one takeaway, there are too many penalties – and not just the 15 against Texas – and the wide receivers still aren’t doing quite enough, even if Traeshon Holden is making some big plays.

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Alabama Will Win

Bama isn’t Northern Illinois, Elon, or Hawaii.

Yes, the Texas game was a close call, but the defense only allowed 19 points, Utah State and ULM didn’t do anything, and the team appears to still be tuning up.

Basically, it’s great, and it’s still getting better and stronger.

The D leads all SEC teams, it’s fantastic on third downs, and it has been a rock against the run. If Vandy isn’t ripping off big runs, the offense is going to sputter against this defensive front.

On the other side, Vanderbilt is getting moved on too easily, there’s going to be a balance with Bryce Young not needing to force anything, and there’s going to be a clean up of the turnovers after giving it up twice against ULM.

Week 4 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Vanderbilt is playing well, but it’s biggest problem is that Alabama isn’t.

It’s hard to argue with a 3-0 start and winning by a combined score of 139-26, but the Tide have hardly been razor-sharp. You know how this program rolls – it’s all about working on the little things, and there’s still more to do.

There won’t be any loss of focus here for the home side. The Process won’t allow it.

The offense will keep trying to get the ball down the field with more big plays and more crisp drives, but it’ll be the defense that makes this a blowout.

Alabama vs Vanderbilt Game Preview

Why Alabama Will Win

Alabama is going to keep on shooting threes. That’s what it does.

It threw a whopping 40 up against Kentucky in the loss a few days ago – making 14 – and it’s going to stay on brand against a Vanderbilt defense that isn’t going to bomb away if it needs to keep up.

The Commodores have had their moments from the outside, but can they find enough other ways to score if they’re not making 12 threes – the eight they average per game?

They’re not good enough from the free throw line – even though they get there a lot – they don’t come up with enough offensive rebounds, and they’re not going to keep up if the Crimson Tide stay on brand.

However …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

Vanderbilt can guard the three.

It got rocked by Auburn last week, but for the most part it’s great at keeping teams to around 35% or under from three. It has to do that at home – and being in the Gymnasium matters.

It’s 0-5 on the road in its last five games and won its last four at home.

The offense doesn’t turn the ball over that much, and Alabama will put the Commodores on the line a bazillion times. Yeah, the threes will come raining down, but the Tide all about quantity over quality – they miss a ton from the outside, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Alabama is lousy on the road.

They’ve won a few road games back in early January, but they’ve dropped six straight on the road mostly because they keep on missing their threes.

Vanderbilt will pull off a desperately needed victory that needs to be a spark.

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

The Commodores have to hit their threes. When they do that, they’re okay. When they don’t, forget it.

At least over the last few weeks, they were good from the outside against Mississippi State and South Carolina and won both games, and couldn’t do anything from three in the other games and lost.

They keep chucking them, and they make a lot because they’re usually in comeback mode, but if they can somehow slow things down and hope Bama is off after not playing for a week.

Why Alabama Will Win

Vanderbilt just doesn’t score enough.

The Crimson Tide keep on coming with an offense that was just getting sharper when the short time off came.

They’re amazing from three, they’re amazing at generating easy points off of steals, and they’re grabbling rebounds in bulk, especially on the defensive end.

Vanderbilt doesn’t have the consistent pop to hang in the 80s, and the defense has a big problem bothering outside shooters – that’s a deathblow when Bama  gets on a roll.

What’s Going To Happen

The Tide lost two of their previous five games coming into this, but they’ve been a rock at home with only a loss to WKU back in mid-December.

Vanderbilt, though, is just good enough to not get obliterated. They’re not going to be able to keep up in the second half, but they’ll score a bit late after Bama coasts across the finish line.
